Ride or Die,Patient 14,Lei e Ordem,Star Trek Voyager,Twilight Zone,etc.

E as meninas e meninos loiros poderem encontrar o respeito e honrar a Storm.

SWCP: Tem dirigido e escrito vários shows a solo.

I.M: O 'IM4' do Blair Underwood.

A mensagem é tão positiva.

I.M: Foi formidável. Quando me lembro disso, queria sacudir aquela menina. (sorrisos.)

SWCP: You were the voice of Storm from the 80´s cartoon series "X Men".Do you still working in this kind of work(voice-over)?

I.M: Yes, but I haven't had a character as strong as Storm in a long time. She is an icon; a beautiful, positive, woman, who is compassionate and full of wisdom. She was mysterious, full of magic and beauty. And, she was a woman of color. I felt this was very important. We hadn't seen any super heroes who looked like Storm before. She was in the comic books, but to now reach a wider audience on the screen was a great gift. Little colored girls would now learn that they too, can be super heroes, that they too are valuable. And, little blonde girls and boys could find respect and honor in Storm. It is important that all our children and we as adults, have respect for each other, no matter the differences in our appearances; nationality, race.

The X-Men were part of a movement to do that. Whether that was their plan or not, I don't know, but what they professed was to acknowledge and love their differences. To learn to accept who they were and that is a powerful message. I was happy to be a part of the series at that time.

SWCP: You´ve been directed and contributing writer on many solo shows.Which one gave you more pleasure to work?

I.M: Blair Underwood's "IM4." It was so powerful. He sang, danced, performed so beautifully - with heart and passion. The look of the show was beautiful. Very simple. A platform, a bridge, stairs and a screen. It was the lighting that added so much to the show. We worked with a young lighting designer, who has since become a dear, dear friend, named Nerissa Williams. She was just brilliant. "IM4" is a one-man show about a young, successful hip hop artist, caught up in "the life," who, somewhere between Heaven and Purgatory, after being shot up in his club. He meets Martin Luther King, who has been sent to him to get him prepared to either go to Heaven or Hell. But, Martin has lost his faith in the young and his faith in helping others.

Together they both find their purposes and the young man, who we thought was dead, really isn't. The play is a strong comment on today's society; with our young people killing each other, disparaging each other in "hit" music, forgetting who they are. The audiences loved it and I was very happy to work with this dear, talented man - my friend, Blair Underwood.

SWCP: You directed the "Vagina Monologues"in Washington and Santa Monica.Did you know that this show also had a version in Portugal? Why is that show has been an international success?

I.M: Oh, I'd love to see it! I'm sure it is fabulous. I believe there is a version of VAGINA MONOLOGUES in hundreds of countries around the world. Woman, the female species, is the nurturer and creator of all life on Earth and somehow, we are made to feel less than; our contribution marginalized; even threatening and therefore sometimes violated in the most heinous of ways. VAGINA MONOLOGUES, not only gave women a forum to raise their voices to talk about the mysteries of their bodies, to feel comfortable with "that" mystery, but to also bring focus on the atrocities around the world. We never spoke "vagina" or most of the other words used to describe a woman's "mystery" and surely never spoke of orgasms. Women were given the chance to connect with or to reconnect with their nature, the base of herself, the "unspoken" of herself, an essence of female that had not be honored in the way it should be. When one is able to accept all of themselves, to love and appreciate who they are, a happier, more enlightened, complete life can be fulfilled. Men, women, no matter what nationality or sexual preference are moved by VAGINA MONOLOGUES. The message is so positive. I admire what Eve Ensler has done and also how the production company of VAGINA MONOLOGUES, keeps tabs on all the productions around the world, so that the integrity of the show is intact and also making sure, that charities benefit from each performance. I'd love to see VAGINA MONOLOGUES in Portugal. I enjoy seeing what other directors do with the piece.

SWCP: You were guest star in the series `Star Trek:Voyage´.Could you tell us a little more about your character in this series?

I.M: I played an alien named Umali, who ran a restaurant, bar. She was an entrepreneur, smart, sassy and direct. I hired Tom Paris from the ship Voyager. As the crew had lost their memories, they all went off to get jobs in different parts of the out-post I was living in. Umali was a lot of fun to play and working on Star Trek was one of the highlights of my career. I have been a Star Trek fan since it came on television. I love the other versions, but I am a purest with Captain Kirk, Spock and the crew. But, that did not damper my enthusiasm for the role and working on VOYAGER. I was in makeup for 4 to 6 hours and to watch myself transform was amazing. What incredible work the makeup artists did on that show. It was a dream of mine to work on STAR TREK and I am thrilled that I was able to.

SWCP: Curiously,in child you had already participated in the original series of Star Trek where you played with the daughters of William Shartner. How it was this experience?

I.M: It was great. The show took place on the same lot as my father's, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, so we got to play with all the guys from Star Trek and see Dad during the day as well. This was my first "acting" job. The producers went around to several of the actors on other television series on the Desilou Studios lot and asked who had kids between ages 5 and 17 (approximately). They were doing this episode titled "MIRI" and they needed, I think almost 20 kids. We had a blast. I was only 8 or 9 at the time and not really aware of the magnitude of what we were doing. And, would know that "MIRI" would be one of the most popular episodes. I enjoyed hanging out with everyone, but I'll tell you a funny story: After a few days working on the set, my dad, came up to me and told me that the producers wanted to give me a line and would I like to say it? I burst into tears and begged him to not make me talk. So, they gave the few lines to my brother. When I look back on that, I want to shake that little girl. (Smiles.) Now, I love to talk.

SWCP: Would you like to leave a message for your fans?

I.M. Yes, I want to thank you for following me and being such a great support. I love voice acting, acting in front of the camera, writing and directing and with knowing that you are out there, it helps to spur me on. I also want to send support and well wishes for all; that you follow your dreams, you take the steps in life to do all you can, with love and compassion, to reach your goals. And, help someone else along the way. Share your blessings and be a positive role model in whatever you choose to do with your life. Peace and love to all!
