O Americano Brad Martin tem trabalhado como duplo,produtor,realizador, 2º diretor de unidade e coordenador de combates de duplos em filmes como: Total Recall,Underworld,Abduction,Matrix Reloaled,Batman,entre outros.


SWCP: Que cenas fez como duplo nos filmes Matrix Revolutions e Matrix Reloaled?

B.M: Fui um dos 12 duplos do Agente Smith interpretado pelo Hugo Weaving. A maior luta que fizemos chamava-se "a Briga Forte",e foi aquela em que o Neo lutou contra 100 Agentes Smiths no pátio. Também desempenhei um papel no filme. Fui um dos adeptos inescrupulosos no castelo do Mirovingian com todas as armas nas paredes em `Matrix Reloaled´. Fui aquele com a lança e o longo rabo-de-cavalo.

SWCP: Estão a decorrer negociações para realizar o seu 2º filme intitulado `Descendants´.Pode falar-nos um pouco desse filme?

B.M: Descendants é um filme em que eu e o Len Wiseman , tivemos a ideia do que realmente aconteceria se existissem pessoas com poderes sobrenaturais na Terra. Queremos que ele seja uma espécie de filme de super-heróis, algo como `Inquebrável´ ou `Identidade Bourne´.Por enquanto a Lakeshore Entertainment adiou o filme. Houve tantos filmes de super-heróis realizados, por isso penso que a Lakeshore está um bocado hesitante para se comprometer com outro filme do género.

SWCP: Já foi o duplo de atores como Ralph Fienes,George Clooney e Bem Affleck.Há algum ator em especial que gostaria de dobrar?

B.M: Bem,atualmente já não faço muita duplicação. Agora estou mais enfocado no design de ação e em direção. Mas devo dizer que o meu ator favorito que já alguma vez dobrei, foi o George Clooney. Fiz sete filmes ou mais com ele e ele é um verdadeiro ator de classe. Ele trata toda a gente com respeito e gosta de divertir-se. Ele é pura boa energia! No que concerne a um ator que realmente gostaria de dobrar, o "James Bond" parece ser o trabalho ideal. Estou seguro que qualquer duplo no mundo concordaria comigo.

SWCP: Fale-nos do seu trabalho num dos seus projetos mais recentes `Total Recall´.

B.M: O meu amigo, Len Wiseman, dirigiu esse filme. Nessa altura em que ele estava a preparar o filme, eu estava na Direção de Ação de Underworld Awakening , um filme que ele produziu, portanto fui incapaz de participar nele desde o princípio. Logo que eu terminasse o Underworld em Vancouver, seguiria diretamente para Toronto para fazer a coreografia das lutas de Total Recall. Total Recall foi uma grande experiência. Todos os atores foram muito simpáticos e talentosos. A minha função foi coreografar as lutas, gravá-las em vídeo e depois editá-las. Todo este processo chama-se Previzing.Seguidamente entregaria o vídeo ao realizador para ele aprová-lo. Depois disto, iria reunir-me com o Colin Farrell,a Kate Beckensale ou a Jessica Biel e coordenaria as lutas com eles.

SWCP: Também é especialista em design de ação. O que faz exatamente nessa área?

B.M: O Desenho de Ação é o mais recente termo que os meus amigos e eu produzimos há aproximadamente 10 anos. Tal como um produtor- desenhista faz ao ter uma observação de um filme em relação aos locais e cenários, como desenhista de ação, observo o estilo e a ação num filme. Isto surgir sob muitas formas e níveis. Para um diretor que sabe exatamente o que eles querem, posso apenas coreografar e facilitar fazer essa visão para a realidade. Para um diretor que está a procurar simplesmente ideias, posso lançar uma ideia reescrevendo a ação na escrita, coreografando e prevendo com um certo estilo.

SWCP: Que mensagem quer enviar aos seus fãs?

B.M: Sigam os vossos sonhos. Tudo é possível!

The American Brad Martin has been worked as a stunt coordinator, director, 2nd unit director, producer and stunt performer in many films such as: Total Recall, Underworld, Abduction and Matrix.

SWCP: Which scenes did you do as a stuntman in Matrix Revolutions and Matrix Reloaded?

B.M: I was one of the 12 stunt doubles for Agent Smith played by Hugo Weaving. The biggest fight we did was called the Burly Brawl; it was the one where Neo fights 100 Agent Smiths in the courtyard.

I also played a part in the movie. I was one of the henchmen in the Mirovingian's castle with all the weapons on the walls in Reloaded. I was the one with the spear and the long pony tail.

SWCP: - You are in negotiations to direct your 2nd feature entitled "Descendants”. Could you tell us a bit more about this film?

B.M: Descendants is a movie the Len Wiseman and I came up with, having the idea of what would really happen if there we people with supernatural powers on earth. We want it to be a kind of superhero movie, something like Unbreakable meets The Bourne Identity. Currently Lakeshore Entertainment has shelved the movie. There have been so many superhero movies made that I think Lakeshore is a bit hesitant to commit to another one.

SWCP: You were a stunt-double of Ralph Fiennes, George Clooney and Ben Affleck. Is it any actor in special that you would like to double?

B.M: Well, I don't really do much doubling anymore. Now I am more focused on action designing and directing. But I must say that my favorite actor I have ever doubled is George Clooney. I have done 7 movies or more with him and he is a real class act. He treats everyone with respect and loves to have fun. He is just good energy! As far as having an actor who I would really like to double, James Bond seems like the ultimate stunt job. I'm sure every stuntman in the world would agree with that one.

SWCP: Tell us about one of your most recent project `Total Recall´.

B.M: My friend, Len Wiseman, directed Total Recall. At the time he was prepping it, I was Action Directing for Underworld Awakening, a movie that he was producing, so I was unable to come in on it from the start. As soon as I finished Underworld in Vancouver, BC, I went straight over to Toronto, to do Total Recall to choreograph the fights.

Total Recall was a great experience. All the actors were so nice as well as talented. My job was to choreograph the fights, shoot them on video and then edit them. This process is called Previzing. Then I would take the video to the director for him to approve. After that, I would get together with Colin Farrell, Kate Beckensale and/or Jessica Biel and rehearse the fights with them.

SWCP: You are also an action design specialist. What do you do exactly in this area?

B.M: Action Design is a newer term that my friends and I came up with about 10 years ago. Such as a production designer comes up with the look of a movie in regards to the sets and locations, as an action designer, I come up with the look and style of the action in a movie. This could come in many forms and levels. For a director that knows exactly what they want, I may just choreograph and facilitate making that vision come to life. For a director who is simply looking for ideas, I may pitch an idea by rewriting the action in the script, choreographing and previzing with a certain look and style.
