Entrevistas SWCP: Raphael Roger Levy

 

 

O ator francês Raphael Roger Levy é conhecido pelo seu trabalho em diversos filmes e programas de TV como: Andor, A Rainha Serpente, Versalhes, Anomalia, entre outros.

 

SWCP: Fale-nos sobre o seu personagem na série televisiva,Andor.

R.L: Interpretei o senador Dasi Oran de Ghorman. O povo Ghorman é um povo refinado, educado e pacífico, com influência cultural na galáxia. 

Sou amigo de longa data da Mon Mothma, que tem sido uma forte aliada da minha causa, pois ajudou-me quando houve um bloqueio em Ghorman. (Apesar das tensões) Tento continuar a ser um embaixador da Paz.

 

SWCP: Esta série tem recebido um feedback muito positivo.O que acha que a diferencia das outras séries da saga Star Wars? 

R.L: A série apela aos valores enraizados em cada um de nós, pois refere-se à História … uma história que se repete, desde a Revolução Francesa até á resistência da 2ª Guerra Mundial, ecoando o direito dos povos à autodeterminação.

 

SWCP: Se lhe pedissem para escolher um personagem de todos os filmes e séries de Star Wars para interpretar, qual escolheria?

R.L: Eu tinha dez anos quando o episódio IV foi lançado, e a magia dele ainda ecoa comigo atualmente. Sonhava em ser o Han Solo. Mesmo que ele não tivesse um sabre de luz. À medida que passo pela vida, porém, percebo que o Chewbacca estava no caminho certo. Um tipo amigável e descontraído. Se ele viesse para Portugal, seria o tipo de que você encontraria numa praia com uma prancha de surf.

 

SWCP: É verdade que você perdeu um dedo da mão esquerda durante as filmagens de uma cena durante a primeira temporada da série, Versalhes? O que aconteceu?

R.L: Sim, perdi o meu polegar num set. Estávamos a filmar numa floresta com ventos muito fortes e um galho de árvore de 350 kg caiu em cima de mim e arrancou parte do meu rosto e a espada que eu segurava atravessou a minha perna. O meu polegar ficou preso entre a espada e a pistola de pólvora que eu estava a segurar. Estou grato por estar vivo!

 

SWCP: Em que projetos está atualmente a trabalhar?

R.L: Estou a trabalhar numa longa-metragem, filmando neste verão, e estarei interpretando um assassino em Nero, uma minissérie da Netflix neste outono.

 

SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar para os fãs de Star Wars? 

R.L: Nunca faltarão pessoas que querem lutar em guerras, porque a paz é o caminho mais difícil. Trabalhem pela paz. Que a força esteja convosco!

The French actor Raphael Roger Levy is known for his work in several movies and TV shows such as:  Andor, The Serpent Queen, Versailles, Anomalia, among others.

SWCP: Tell us about your character on Television show, Andor.

 

R.L: I play Senator Dasi Oran from Ghorman. The Ghorman people are a refined, educated and peaceful people, with a cultural influence in the galaxy. I am a long time friend of Mon Mothma, who’s been a strong ally to my cause as she helped me when there was a blockade on Ghorman. (Despite tensions) I try to remain an ambassador for Peace. 

SWCP: This show has received very positive feedback. What do you think sets it apart from the other Star Wars series? 

R.L: The show appeals to values engrained in every one of us as it refers to History… a history that repeats itself, from the French revolution to WW2 resistance, echoing the right of people to self-determination.

 

SWCP: If you were asked to choose a character from all the Star Wars movies and shows to play, which one would you choose?

R.L: I was ten years old when episode 4 was released, and the magic of it still echoes with me today. I dreamt of being Han Solo. Even though he does not have a light saber. As I go through life though, I realize Chewbacca was onto something. Laid back dude, friendly and easy going cool. If he came to Portugal, he’s the kind of guy you would find on a beach with a longboard. 

SWCP: Is that true that you did lost a finger on your left hand while filming a scene during the first season of the show, Versailles? What´s happened?

R.L: Yes, I lost my thumb on a set. We were shooting in a forest with very strong winds and a 350kg tree branch fell on top of me. It ripped part of my face off, and the sword I was holding went through my leg. My thumb got caught between the sword and the black powder pistol I was holding. I am grateful to be alive!

 

SWCP:  What projects are you currently working on?

R.L: I am working on a feature film, filming this summer, and I will be playing an assassin in Nero, a miniseries on Netflix this fall.

 

 SWCP: What message would you like to send for Star Wars fans?

R.L: There will never be a shortage of people who want to fight wars, because Peace is the hardest way. Work for Peace. May the force be with you.

Os maiores manejadores de sabres de luz da galáxia vão-se encontrar brevemente para o Campeonato Francês de Sabres de Luz sob a égide da Federação Francesa de Esgrima (FFE) e da Academia de Sabre de Luz (ASL). 

Este campeonato acontecerá nos dias 7, 8 e 9 de junho de 2025 no Complexo Desportivo do Lycée de Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie em Vendée (85).

Entrevistas SWCP: Liam Cook

 

 

Liam Cook é um marionetista britânico e performer de criaturas que trabalhou em vários filmes, comerciais e séries de TV, como Doctor Who e The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

Cook já tem um grande currículo no que respeita a Star Wars,tendo encarnado diversos personagens em filmes como: Han Solo: Uma História Star Wars ,Star Wars: O Despertar da Força e Star Wars: A Ascensão Skywalker e nas séries, Andor  e O Acólito. 

SWCP: Fale-nos um pouco acerca do seu trabalho nos filmes e  séries de Star Wars. 

L.C: Em primeiro lugar, obrigado por me conceder esta entrevista. É sempre um prazer ser contactado por quem é apaixonado pelos projetos que fazemos. Desde o episódio 7, tive algum envolvimento em todos os projetos de Star Wars que foram filmados no Reino Unido. Sou contratado como artista de criaturas. O cargo é bastante geral, mas engloba funções diversas. Existem talvez cinco disciplinas distintas que podem enquadrar-se na definição Marionetas envolvendo manipulação manual, marionetas animatrónicas via controlo remoto, atuação de traje, atuação prostética e marionetes de referência de câmara/efeitos visuais. Para Star Wars, fui obrigado a executar cada uma das cinco disciplinas num momento ou outro para ajudar a dar vida aos personagens. O trabalho é sempre colaborativo e, na maioria das vezes, há vários artistas  a trabalhar juntos em qualquer criatura. Mesmo atuar com uma maquilhagem prostética é sempre um esforço de equipa; Quanto de desempenho pode ser atribuído ao artista quando você tem uma maquilhagem e figurino incríveis fazendo tanto trabalho para si? Um crédito enorme deve sempre ir para os designers e criadores das criaturas, pois são os verdadeiros artesãos da magia do cinema. 

SWCP: Já era fã de Star Wars antes de trabalhar nesta série? Tem algum personagem favorito? 

L.C: Infelizmente, nasci tarde demais para ver a trilogia original quando ela chegou às telas de cinema. Que momento cultural deve ter sido! Eu tinha treze anos anos de idade quando A Ameaça Fantasma foi lançado e lembro-me claramente de ir ao cinema para vê-lo. Adorei o dinamismo da corrida de Podracers,lembro-me do Toydarian, Watto, sendo um ótimo personagem... e aqui está uma opinião impopular, quando criança,eu simpatizava muito com o Jar Jar. Gosto das histórias geradas por fãs que fazem um regresso sinistro.Quanto ás outras prequelas,achei menos acessíveis e tive de esperar até ao meu envolvimento com o episódio 7 para começar a aprofundar a minha apreciação para o universo Star Wars. 

SWCP: Qual foi até agora,o personagem mais difícil de interpretar?

L.C:  Cada personagem tem os seus desafios particulares para enfrentar. Pode ter a ver com a complexidade do desempenho necessário do personagem, as limitações físicas ou a força necessária para operar um traje ou fantoche, ou as condições ambientais do cenário ou local em que você pode ter que se apresentar. O trabalho que fizemos nos desertos dos Emirados Árabes Unidos e da Jordânia veio necessariamente com algumas condições adversas. O Happabore no episódio 7 foi particularmente divertido; bastante pesado, trabalho físico e acho que a temperatura-ambiente no deserto rondava os 50 graus C! Felizmente, a produção organizou uma unidade de ar condicionado para entrar sempre que havia uma lacuna nas filmagens. Suponho que a criatura mais desafiante até agora,foi a Lady Proxima. Havia muitos marionetistas a contribuir simultaneamente, alguns sem linha de visão,outros imersos na água. O boneco era enorme, pesado e num espaço confinado, e tinha uma performance bastante complexa de fazer. Grande parte da abordagem para a filmagem foi nova, mas parte do que eu amo no trabalho é colaborar de forma a encontrar maneiras criativas de resolver problemas, e havia muito disso para fazer lá!

SWCP: Você também é baterista e DJ.É uma faceta que gostaria de explorar mais ou é apenas um hobbie?

L.C: Sou um homem que tem uma quantidade bastante decente de hobbies atualmente, no entanto, DJ e bateria não estão realmente no topo dessa lista. Os candidatos para mim agora são corridas de moto, escalada e corrida em trilhas de montanha. Houve momentos na minha vida em que as paixões se transformaram em profissões, mas devo dizer que isso nem sempre terminou bem.

Às vezes, a realidade de depender de uma atividade para ganhar dinheiro pode sugar a diversão da mesma. Muitas vezes prefiro o espírito do amador ardente e adoro a energia gerada por comunidades de entusiastas ansiosos. Um lugar onde o prazer nunca realmente entorpeceu é com o trabalho das criaturas, mas isso nunca foi realmente sobre o dinheiro mas mais sobre a alegria de lá estar, contribuindo com algo, por menor que seja, para algo especial. 

SWCP: Em que projetos está atualmente a trabalhar? 

L.C:  O projeto de uma vida, criar o meu filho, que atualmente tem catorze meses de idade.

SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos fãs de Star Wars? 

L.C: Existem muitos bons filmes e franquias por aí, mas o que torna Star Wars único são os fãs. Por favor, continuem a brilhar a  vossa paixão, crítica e criatividade. Vocês são Star Wars. Obrigado por tudo o que fazem.

Liam Cook is a British puppeteer and creature performer  who has worked in several films,commercials and TV series such as Doctor Who and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. 

 He also worked in several Star Wars movies and TV shows: Solo: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens,Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker ,The Acolyte and Andor.

SWCP: Tell us a little more about your work on Star Wars movies and Television shows.

L.C: First of all, thank you for having me for this interview. It’s always a pleasure to be contacted by those who are passionate about the projects we do. Since episode 7 I have had some involvement on all of the Star Wars projects that have been shot in the UK. I’m hired as a creature performer. The job title is quite general but encapsulates roles that are diverse. There are perhaps 5 distinct disciplines that could fall under the definition; puppetry involving manual manipulation, animatronic puppetry via remote control, suit acting, prosthetic acting and camera/ VFX reference puppetry. For Star Wars I have been required to perform each of the 5 disciplines at one time or another to help bring the characters to life. The work is always collaborative and for the majority of the time there are multiple performers working together on any one creature. Even acting with a prosthetic makeup is always a team effort; how much of a performance can be attributed to the performer when you have an incredible makeup and costume doing so much work for you? Huge credit must always go to the designers and makers of the creatures, as they are the real crafters of movie magic.

SWCP: Were you a Star Wars fan before you worked on this show? Do you have any favorite characters?  

L.C: Sadly I was born too late to see the original trilogy when it first hit silver screens. What a cultural moment it must have been! I was 13 years old when Phantom Menace was released and quite clearly remember going to the cinema to see it. I loved the dynamism of the pod race and I remember the Toydarian, Watto, being a great character... and here’s an unpopular opinion, as a child I pretty sympathetic towards Jar Jar. I enjoy the fan generated story lines that have him making a sinister comeback. The other prequels I found to be less accessible and had to wait until my involvement with episode 7 to begin to deepen my appreciation for the Star Wars universe. 

SWCP: What has been the most difficult character to play so far?

L.C: Every character has its particular challenges to contend with. It could be to do with the complexity of the performance required of the character, the physical limitations or strength needed to operate a suit or puppet, or the environmental conditions of the set or location that you might have to perform in. The work that we did on location in the deserts of the UAE and Jordan necessarily came with some adverse conditions.The Happabore in episode 7 was a particularly fun one; quite heavy, physical work and I think ambient temperature in the desert was in the mid 50 degrees C! Fortunately the production had organised an air conditioning unit to plumb in whenever there was a gap in filming. I suppose the most challenging creature so far was Lady Proxima. There were a great many puppeteers contributing concurrently, some with no line of sight, some immersed in water.  The puppet was massive, heavy and in a confined space, and had quite a complex performance to do. Much of the approach to the shoot was novel, but part of what I love about the job is collaborating to find creative ways to solve problems, and there was plenty of that to get involved with there! 

SWCP: You ́re also a drummer and a DJ.Is it a facet you'd like to explore more or is it just a hobby?

L.C: I am a man who has a pretty decent haul of hobbies, currently however DJ-ing and drumming aren’t actually on that list. The top contenders for me right now are motorcycle racing, rock climbing and mountain trail running. There have been times in my life where passions have turned into professions, but I have to say this hasn’t always ended well. Sometimes the reality of relying on an activity to make money can suck the fun out of it. I often prefer the spirit of the ardent amateur and love the energy generated by communities of eager enthusiasts. One place where enjoyment has never really dulled is with creature work, but that’s never really been about the money and more about the joy of being there, contributing something, however small, to something special.

SWCP: What projects are you currently working on? 

L.C: The project of a lifetime, bringing up my son, who’s currently 14 months old.

SWCP: What message would you like to send to Star Wars fans? 

L.C: There are many good films and franchises out there but what makes Star Wars unique are the fans. Please continue to shine your passion, criticism and creativity. You are Star Wars. Thank you for all that you do.

Entrevistas SWCP: Akie Kotabe

 

Akie Kotabe e um ator e produtor Americano que tem trabalhado em inúmeros projetos que vão desde fimes e séries como Andor(Temporada 2),CSI Miami,Operação Sombra: Jack Ryan,Everly,Humans,entre outros até a vozes de personagens de animação e videojogos.

SWCP:  Fale-nos sobre o seu trabalho na série televisiva Star Wars: Andor.

A.K: Interpretei o Musk, um membro da Brigada Maya Pei apresentado no início da segunda temporada.  A história de fundo criada por Musk (não é necessariamente verdadeira, mas é o que eu acreditava) era que ele era de Niamos, cansado do assédio dos Shoretroopers, e decidiu  juntar-se à equipa de Maya Pei na esperança de interromper o Império Galáctico.

SWCP: Já era fã de Star Wars antes de trabalhar nesta frânquia?Tem algum personagem favorito? 

A.K: Sim, eu cresci com os episódios 4-6 quando era criança.  Também gosto muito da série The Mandalorian, e fiquei muito animado quando anunciaram que os episódios 7-9 estavam a ser feitos, há mais de uma década. Eu escolheria um clássico e diria que o Yoda é o meu personagem favorito.

SWCP: Tem trabalhado com alguns atores e realizadores de renome.Recorda-se de alguma situação engraçada ou incomum que tenha ocorrido durante as rodagens ou nos bastidores?

A.K:  Há alguns anos, passei algum tempo a trabalhar no filme Gran Turismo. Estava a nevar na Áustria, alguns membros do elenco e da equipa decidiram que seria um desafio divertido entrar num pequeno lago gelado, depois de nos aquecermos o suficiente na sauna.

A nossa entrada na lagoa não foi como imaginávamos - a superfície do solo da lagoa era extremamente escorregadia e alguém escorregou ao dar os primeiros passos. Muitas pessoas estavam a gritar em reação ao quão frio estava.  Ao mesmo tempo, uma pessoa estava casualmente submersa na lagoa, como se estivesse a meditar.  Eu só consegui entrar por pouco, antes que o frio fizesse os meus músculos doerem e eu corresse para sair.  Lembro-me de desejar ter tirado alguns segundos extras para enterrar a cabeça, mas não queria tentar entrar uma segunda vez.

Ainda assim, esta continua a ser uma ótima lembrança na minha mente. Toda gente deu uma boa risada sobre isso depois. Desde então, tenho desfrutado de um mergulho frio no spa,de vez em quando.

SWCP: Em que projetos está atualmente a trabalhar? 

A.K: Atualmente, estou a ensaiar para a peça A Moon for the Misbegotten, de Eugene O'Neill, que estará no Almeida Theatre em Londres neste verão.Venham assistir se estiverem nessa cidade!

SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos fãs de Star Wars? 

A.K: Vou ter de mencionar três frases do Yoda: 

"O seu caminho, você deve decidir."

Akie Kotabe is an Asian-American actor and producer who has worked on numerous projects ranging from films and series such as Andor(Season 2),CSI Miami,Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,Everly,Humans, among others even the voices of animated characters and video games.

SWCP: Tell us about your work on Star Wars: Andor.

A.K: I play Musk, a member of the Maya Pei Brigade featured at the beginning of season two.  Musk's created backstory (not necessarily true, but what I believed) was that he was from Niamos, tired of harassment by shoretroopers there, and decided to join Maya Pei's team in hopes of disrupting the Galactic Empire.

SWCP: Were you a Star Wars fan before working on this franchise? Do you have a favorite character?

A.K: Yes, I grew up with Episodes 4-6 as a child.  Also love The Mandalorian, and was very excited when they announced Episodes 7-9 were being made, over a decade ago.

I would go with a classic, and say Yoda is my favorite character.

SWCP: You have worked with some renowned actors and directors. Do you remember any funny or unusual situation that occurred during filming or behind the scenes?

A.K:  A couple years ago I got to spend some time on locations working on the film Gran Turismo.  

On a snowy day in Austria, some of the cast and crew decided it would be a fun challenge to walk into a small freezing pond, after having heated ourselves sufficiently in the sauna.

Our entrance into the pond was not how we had imagined it - the ground surface in the pond was extremely slippery, and someone slipped upon their first steps.  Many people were vocalizing loudly in reaction to how cold it was.  At the same time one person was just very casually submerged in the pond, as if meditating.  I only briefly managed to get in, before the chill caused my calf muscles to ache and I rushed to get back out.  I remember wishing I had taken the extra few seconds to dunk my head, but didn't want to try and enter a second time.

Still, this remains a great memory in my mind.  Everybody had a good laugh about it afterwards.

Ever since then, I've enjoyed a cold plunge at the spa now and again.

SWCP: What projects are you currently working on? 

A.K:  I am currently in rehearsals for the play, A Moon for the Misbegotten, by Eugene O'Neill, which will be at the Almeida Theatre in London this summer.  Come check it out if in town!

SWCP: What message would you like to send to Star Wars fans? 

A.K:  I'll have to go with three from Yoda: 

'Your path, you must decide.'

'The greatest teacher, failure is.'

'Always pass on what you have learned.'

Amy Sturdivant é uma atriz norte-americana que desempenhou vários papéis de duplos em programas de televisão e filmes como Viúva Negra, Capitã Marvel, Agentes da S.H.I.E.L.D, entre outros. Em The Mandalorian (1ª Temporada e 2ª temporada) ela foi a dupla de Gina Carano. Ela também interpretou um Aldeão Aq Vetina,um Caçador de Recompensas e um Stormtrooper.

SWCP: Fale-nos um pouco sobre o seu trabalho na série The Mandalorian. 

A.S: Trabalhar na série The Mandalorian, foi um sonho de criança que se tornou realidade. Desde os cenários, até ao figurino, efeitos especiais e o 'Volume' (telas de LED) projetadas especificamente para transportá-lo para uma galáxia familiar muito, muito distante - fiquei imediatamente abismada. O elenco e a equipa eram tudo o que você esperaria que fossem! Todos eram apaixonados pelo seu trabalho e tornaram-se numa família por um vínculo que apenas os fãs de Star Wars podem realmente compreender.

SWCP: Já era fã de Star Wars antes de aceitar este trabalho? 

A.S: Assisti aos filmes enquanto crescia, no entanto, não posso afirmar que fui uma super fã - eu era mais uma garota fora de portas. Tornei-me dupla por amor ao movimento e ao atletismo, e então a apreciação e o amor pelo cinema cresceram a partir daí! Isso, é claro, incluindo o Universo Star Wars.

SWCP: Se lhe fosse dada a oportunidade de escolher um personagem de Star Wars qual gostaria de interpretar? 

A.S: Teria de ser o Chewbacca!Adoro a maneira como ele interage com os outros personagens usando a sua fisicalidade. Ele é muito amado e eu sinto que seria muito divertido interpretá-lo.

SWCP: Já alguma vez sofreu um acidente de trabalho como dupla? 

A.S: Tenho muita sorte de ter feito algumas acrobacias bem retorcidas, mas a equipa atrás de mim sempre manteve a segurança em primeiro plano. Tudo é calculado e testado, e eu confiei a eles a minha vida!

SWCP: Você foi uma ex-alpinista de competição (nacionalmente classificada em 7º lugar nos EUA) e instrutora, Ex-nadadora de competição, snowboarder e ex-instrutora.Quando deixar o seu trabalho como atriz/dupla,pensa em voltar a ser instrutora destas modalidades anteriormente referidas? 

A.S: Embora eu ame todos esses desportos e continue a persegui-los como hobbies, não me imagino deixando o trabalho de duplo! Pretendo continuar como Coordenador de duplos e espero chegar à Direção de Segunda Unidade.

SWCP: Que conselhos gostaria de deixar aqueles que gostariam de iniciar uma carreira como a sua? 

A.S: Vão atrás do que são apaixonados! Nunca desistam e busquem orientação daqueles que vieram antes de vós. Não sintam que precisam se encaixar num molde - descubram para que  podem ser contratados e fiquem realmente bons nisso! Há pessoas de todas as formas e tamanhos representadas no cinema. Façam os vossos próprios filmes e  aprenderão muito para mostrar as vossas habilidades. Podem levar algum tempo, então sejam pacientes. E encontrem um bom equilíbrio entre trabalho e vida pessoal!

Amy Sturdivant is an American Stunt/Actress who played several roles and stunts in Television shows and movies such as Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Agents of S.H.I.E.L. D, among others. In The Mandalorian (Season 1 and season 2) she was the Stunt Double for Gina Carano. Amy also played the roles of an Aldean Aq Vetina,a bounty hunter and a Stormtrooper.

SWCP: Tell us a little more about your work on The Mandalorian series. 

A.S: Working on the Mandalorian series was every inner child’s dream come true. From the set designs, to the costuming, special effects, and the ‘volume’ (LED screens) specifically designed to transport you to the familiar galaxy far, far away - I was immediately taken aback. The cast and crew were everything you would hope them to be! Everyone was passionate about their work and became family by a bond that only Star Wars fans can truly comprehend.

SWCP: Were you a Star Wars fan before you took this job? 

A.S: I had watched the films growing up, however I can’t claim to have been a super fan - I was more of an outdoors kid. I became a stunt performer out of my love for movement and athleticism, and then the appreciation and a love for cinema grew from there! That of course including the Star Wars Universe.

SWCP: If you were given the opportunity to choose a Star Wars character which one would you like to play?

A.S:  I would have to go with Chewbacca! I love the way he interacts with the other characters using his physicality. He is well loved and I feel like he would be a lot of fun to play. 

SWCP: Have you ever suffered an accident at work as a stunt actress?

A.S: I am very fortunate to have done some pretty gnarly stunts, but the team behind me has always kept safety at the forefront. Everything is calculated and tested, and I have trusted them with my life!

SWCP: You were a Former Competitive Rock Climber (Nationally Ranked 7th in USA) and Instructor, Former Competitive Swimmer, Snowboarder and Former Instructor. When you leave your job as an actress/stunts, do you think about returning to be an instructor in these modalities mentioned above?

A.S: While I love all of those sports and continue to pursue them on the side as hobbies, I don’t picture myself leaving stunts! I plan to continue on as a Stunt Coordinator, and hope to work my way up to Second Unit Directing.

SWCP: What advice would you like to leave for those who would like to start a career like yours? 

A.S: Go after what you’re passionate about! Never give up and seek out guidance from those who have gone before you. Don’t feel like you need to fit a mold - find out what you might get hired for, and get really good at that! There are people of all shapes and sizes represented in film. Make your own films - you will learn a lot and gain footage to show your skills off. It may take some time, so be patient. And find a good work/life balance!
