Entrevistas SWCP: Barry Hanley

 

 

Barry Hanley é um duplo profissional e ator irlandês, que realizou acrobacias e interpretou o papel de um Lutador Gamorreano na série de televisão ,The Mandalorian.

 

SWCP:  Fale-nos sobre o seu trabalho em Star Wars. 

B.H: O meu trabalho em Star Wars consistiu em interpretar um dos dois lutadores gamorreanos no primeiro episódio da segunda temporada de The Mandalorian. O Jon Favreau realizou o episódio. Ele queria que se lembrasse a cena de boxe em "A Bronx Tale", quando o De Niro leva o filho às lutas. O Matt Shadden e eu interpretámos os dois gamorreanos. Lutámos com machados num ringue rodeado por figurantes. Foi muito divertido. 

O Matt faleceu devido a uma doença cardíaca. Descanse em paz. Era um tipo fantástico e um duplo de cinema muito talentoso. Tive a sorte de ver o meu personagem transformado numa figura Funko Pop.

Funko Pop #406: O Lutador Gamorreano. Interpretar este gladiador verde e suíno foi épico e espero poder homenagear o Matt no futuro e lembrar aos fãs que grande adversário ele foi. Ele ajudou a desenhar os machados com que ensaiávamos e era um rapaz genuinamente bom e perspicaz como ninguém.

 

SWCP: Já era fã de Star Wars antes de trabalhar nesta frânquia?Tem algum personagem favorito?

B.H: Sempre fui fã de Star Wars, por isso, poder trabalhar nesta série foi uma enorme honra para mim. A minha personagem favorita sempre foi o Boba Fett. Por isso, conhecer o Temuera Morrison foi uma emoção enorme. Ele é um verdadeiro cavalheiro e um grande fã de râguebi, tal como eu.

 

SWCP: Recorda-se de alguma situação engraçada ou incomum que tenha ocorrido durante as rodagens ou nos bastidores?

B.H: Passámos por uma situação de loucura em que um dos nossos capacetes/máscaras... era o do Matt Shadden e a bateria que controlava a mandíbula das máscaras gamorreanas sobreaqueceu e pegou fogo durante alguns segundos. Tivemos de a arrancar da cabeça do Matt, pois havia chamas a sair da parte de trás. Foi uma loucura. Também pudemos ver o duplo principal do Mando, Lateef Crowder Dos Santos, a fazer o seu trabalho. Ele é um duplo muito talentoso e uma pessoa fantástica. As suas cenas de luta e o seu timing estavam sempre perfeitos.

 

SWCP: Lutou como pugilista de competição e praticante de kickboxing na Bolívia, onde aprendeu a falar espanhol fluentemente. E português? Consegue dizer alguma palavra em português?

B.H: Falo um pouco de português, pois já visitei o Brasil algumas vezes. Também já estive em Portugal. Estive em Lisboa há alguns anos. Adoro os brasileiros e os portugueses. São muito descontraídos e simpáticos.

 Sei todos as palavrões! Ha, ha! E "obrigado", claro. Adoraria participar numa convenção de Star Wars em Portugal. Têm os melhores mariscos e pessoas muito simpáticas e acolhedoras. Adoro-vos a todos.  

Como grande fã do Manchester United, sempre adorei o Ronaldo e adoraria surfar na Nazaré!!

 

SWCP: Em que projetos está atualmente a trabalhar?

B.H: Atualmente, estou a trabalhar na série Vikings/Bloodaxe para a Amazon MGM como duplo e guerreiro viking e, possivelmente, vou trabalhar no novo Superman em Atlanta. As coisas são imprevisíveis quando se é ator/duplo, mas é por isso que adoramos. Nunca se sabe realmente o que vai surgir e que oportunidades emocionantes estão mesmo ao virar da esquina.  

Um telefonema ou e-mail pode, literalmente, mudar a tua vida. Para ser sincero, estou a viver o meu sonho. É um enorme privilégio que não dou por garantido...

 

SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos fãs de Star Wars?

B.H: A todos os fãs de Star Wars... sejam bons, sejam sempre honestos, amem o próximo e confiem em Deus. ESTE É O CAMINHO!

 Barry Hanley is a professional stuntman and actor from Ireland,who performed stunts and the role of a Gamorrean Fighter for The Mandalorian,Television show.

 

SWCP: Tell us about your work on Star Wars.

B.H: My work on Star Wars was playing one of the two Gamorrean Fighters in the first episode of season 2 of the Mandalorian.Jon Favreau directed the episode.He wanted it to be reminiscent of the boxing scene in 'A Bronx Tale' when De Niro brings his son to the fights. Matt Shadden and I played the two Gamorreans. We fought with axes in a ring surrounded by extras. It was a fun time.  

Matt passed away from a heart condition RIP.He was a great guy and a very talented stunt performer.I was lucky to have a Funko Pop made from my character.

Funko Pop #406 The Gamorrean Fighter. Playing this porcine green gladiator was epic and hopefully I can honour Matt in the future and remind fans what a great opponent he was.He helped design the axes that we rehearsed with and was a genuinely good lad and sharp as a tack.

 

SWCP: Were you a Star Wars fan before working on this franchise? Do you have a favorite character?

B.H: I have always been a Star Wars fan so getting to work on the franchise was an enormous honour for me. My favourite character was always Bobba Fett.So, meeting Temuera Morrison was a huge thrill.He is a real gentleman and a big rugby fan ;like myself.

 

SWCP: Can you recall any funny or unusual situations that happened during filming or behind the scenes?

B.H: We had a crazy situation where one of our helmets/masks....it was Matt Shadden's one... the battery pack that controlled the jaw of the Gamorrean masks overheated and went on fire for a few seconds. We had to rip it off Matt's head as there were flames coming out of the back. Crazy stuff.  We also got to watch Mando's main stunt double Lateef Crowder Dos Santos do his thing. He is a very talented stuntman and a great person. His fight scenes and timing were always on point.

 

SWCP: You Fought as a competitive boxer and a kick boxer in Bolivia, where you learned to speak fluent Spanish. What about Portuguese? Can you speak any Portuguese words?

B.H: I speak a little Portuguese as I visited Brazil a few times.I've also been to Portugal.Was in Lisbon a few years ago. Love the Brazilian and Portuguese people.Very chilled out and friendly.

 I know all the bad words! Ha,ha!And Obrigado of course. I would love to do a Star Wars Con in Portugal.You have the best seafood and very friendly and warm people. Love you all.  

As a huge Man United fan have always loved Ronaldo and would love to surf Nazare!!

 

 

SWCP: What projects are you currently working on?

B.H: I am currently working on Vikings/Bloodaxe for Amazon MGM as a stuntman and Viking warrior and possibly working on the new Superman in Atlanta. Things are unpredictable as an actor/stuntman but that is why we love it.You really never know what is going to pop up and what exciting opportunities are right around the corner.  

A phone call/email can literally change your life. I am living my dream to be honest with you. It is a huge privilege that I do not take for granted..

 

SWCP: What message would you like to send to Star Wars fans?

 B.H: To all the Star Wars fans...be good, always be honest, love your neighbor and trust in the Lord. THIS IS THE WAY!
