Os fãs do episódio V (O Regresso de Jedi) de Star Wars lembram-se com certeza da Oola,a exótica escrava-dançarina do Jabba The Hutt.Nesta entrevista em exclusivo, vamos ficar a conhecer um pouco mais a atriz que desempenhou esse papel, a britânica Femi Taylor que é o nosso mais recente membro honorário.

SWCP: Inevitávelmente,temos de começar com uma pergunta acerca da Oola.Por favor, fale-nos um pouco acerca desse papel.

F.T: A Oola era uma bailarina Twilek do Palácio do Jabba the Hutt. Ela era a filha de um chefe do clã de uma tribo em Ryloth. Ela tinha escapado de uma vida cruel e só esperava ter uma vida mais recompensadora. Em vez disso, ela foi aprisionada dentro do Palácio e tornou-se uma escrava do Jabba e porque ela não sucumbiu às suas exigências ele acabou com a sua vida.

SWCP: Curiosamente, você foi a única atriz da trilogia original a voltar a fazer o mesmo papel nas novas cenas para a edição especial em 1997.Como foi o regresso a Star Wars, passados 14 anos? 

F.T: Em primeiro lugar foi uma honra absoluta ser a única atriz a voltar após todos aqueles anos e foi incrível. Naturalmente a tecnologia mudou muito desde a minha primeira aparição no filme, eles colocaram-me em frente ao ecrã azul para lutar com o Jabba antes de eles construírem o cenário para finalizar as cenas antes de eu enfrentar a minha morte. Tudo o que posso dizer é que fui muito afortunada por ter essa experiência.

SWCP: Participou em 1981 numa produção original do musical `Cats´em Londres, tendo nessa mesma altura sido selecionada para uma audição para o papel da Oola em Star Wars. Considera que foi nessa altura que deu “O grande passo para a ribalta”? 

F.T: Foi em 1983 que estive na produção original de `Cats´, antes disso Star Wars já estava bem no seu caminho, mas sinto que ter voltado a esse papel anos depois, criou uma figura de culto e sendo assim, sinto que foi isso que me catapultou para um grande passo para a fama.

SWCP: Alguns anos mais tarde (1998) teve um papel criado exclusivamente para si (Exótica) numa versão de `Cats´para um filme em televisão. Como foi essa experiência?

F.T: Pediram-me fazer `Cats´novamente, e hesitei porque eu não queria que as pessoas pensassem que eu só tinha trabalhado para essa produção. Estive também na audição em Melbourne. Portanto eu disse que apareceria no filme de televisão de `Cats´, mas teriam de me pôr dentro do contexto. Foram os rapazes que costumavam dizer "Você é assim tão exótica... Vamos chamar-lhe Exótica”. E foi assim que fiquei com esse papel.

SWCP: É verdade que o seu irmão,Benedict Taylor, interpretou o papel do piloto de Caças Bravo 2 no episódio I de Star Wars?

F.T: sim, é 100% verdadeiro.

SWCP: Quer enviar alguma mensagem aos seus fãs?

F.T: Muito obrigado por adorarem o meu personagem a Oola e tenho muita sorte por me ter encontrado com tantos de vós. Um milhão de obrigados a todos vocês. x x x

The fans of episode V (Return of Jedi) of Star Wars, certainty remembered of Oola, the Jabba the Hutt´s exotic slave dancer. In this exclusive interview, we are going to know a little more about Femi Taylor, the British actress/dancer who played this role. She his also our most recent honorary member.

SWCP: Inevitably, will begin a question about Oola.Please; tell us a bit more about your role in Star Wars.

F.T: Oola was a Twilek dancer in Jabba the Hutts Palace She was the daughter of a clan chieftain on Ryloth. She had escaped from a cruel life and was only hoping to have a more rewarding life. Instead she was caught up within the Palace and became Jabbas slave and because she did not succumb to his demands he ended her life.

SWCP: Curiously you were the only performer from the original to reprise new film scenes for the special edition release. How it was "Back to Star Wars" 14 years later?

F.T: Being asked first of all was an absolute honor and to be the only actress to come back all those years later was incredible. Of course the technology has moved on so when I first arrived, they blue screened me to struggle with Jabba before they built the set to carry the scenes through before facing my death. All I can say is that I was so fortunate to have experienced the real thing.

SWCP: You participated in 1989 in the original London production of the musical `Cats ‘during which you learned that you were been cast as Oola for Star Wars. Do you think that it was then that you gave the great step for the fame?

F.T: It was 1983 when I was in the original cast of CATS, back then Star Wars was well on its way, bit I feel that going back into the role years later created such a cult figure and following so I feel that is what catapulted great steps to fame.

SWCP: Some years later (1998) you had a role (Exotica) that was created specially for you in the TV movie version of Cats. How it was this experience?

F.T: I was asked to do Cats again, and I hesitated because I did not want people to think that I had just done Cats. I was in the Melbourne cast as well. So I said I would appear in Cats TV movie, but to put me in the background. It was the boys who used to say you are so exotic.........lets call her Exotica.

SWCP: Is that true that your brother Benedict Taylor played Fighter Pilot Bravo 2 in Star Wars: Episode I?

F.T: Yes it is 100%.

SWCP: Would you like to leave a message for your fans?

F.T: Thank-you so much for loving the character Oola and I am so lucky to have met so many of you. A million little thank-you to you all. x x x
