Entrevistas SWCP: Adam McArthur

Adam McArthur é um ator regular em séries de animação e comerciais. Em Star Wars: Clone Wars (CGI) foi a voz do Príncipe Lee Char.

SWCP: Apesar de ser ainda muito jovem, revela já uma grande maturidade, tendo uma textura e tons vocais muito interessantes na sua voz. Teve algum tipo de formação para atingir este nível?

A.M: Em primeiro lugar, quero agradecer-vos esta entrevista! O que adoro sobre Clone Wars é que a escrita e os personagens são todos fundados em verdadeiras emoções. Naturalmente há momentos mais leves, mas a escrita realmente foca-se em direção numa realidade fundada. Cresci numa família muito carinhosa e tive pais que realmente me ensinaram o que significa ser uma pessoa forte, confiante, que pode compartilhar os sentimentos e relacionar-se com outros e não temer mostrar a emoção e a sensibilidade. Com o papel do Lee-Char,revelou-se esta criança que perdeu o seu pai e teve este peso incrível nos seus ombros, sendo assim, revi-me de certa forma nesse personagem (todos nós já perdemos de alguma forma entes queridos) penso realmente que me ajudou a mostrar a sua maturidade e vulnerabilidade. Além do mais, o Dave Filoni é fantástico; ele realmente ajudou-me a afinar certos aspetos do personagem, como saber quando ser forte e mais transparente emotivamente. Penso que todos daqueles elementos se combinaram ajudando a formar o personagem.

SWCP: Fale-nos um pouco mais acerca do seu personagem nessa série.

A.M: Acho que já tinha falado sobre ele na questão anterior, mas foi uma alegria ter interpretado um personagem tão fixe. O Lee- Char teve tantas etapas diferentes e a viagem que ele teve durante os primeiros três episódios da quarta temporada foi enorme! Ele começou tão incerto de quem realmente era e como ele se adaptou a isso, mas depois com elementos além do seu controle, ele foi conseguindo crescer e ocupar o trono do seu pai como o rei legítimo. Penso que o quanto fixe é isto?Ah!Ah! (risos) … adoro o Lee-Char!

SWCP: Como obteve esse papel?

A.M: O processo de casting de Clone Wars é muito reservado. Fiz uma audição para um personagem e um projeto que depois descobri (uma vez que eu tinha já reservado o papel e tinha chegado ao estúdio de gravação!) que era sobre Clone Wars. Eles usaram um nome de código tanto para a série como para o meu personagem! Mais do que isto, pareceu-se com qualquer outra audição. 

SWCP: Tem tido oportunidade de interagir com os fãs desta série?

A.M: Tive algumas oportunidades de interagir com os fãs! Estou precisamente a fazer isso agora mesmo! Uma das minhas experiências favoritas foi com muitos dos jovens fãs que assistiram à estreia da quarta temporada no Aquário do Oceano Pacífico em Long Beach, Califórnia. Adoro crianças. E foi tão fixe ver o quanto eles adoraram o primeiro episódio. Eles corriam pelo local com os seus trajes e sabres de luz. Foi estrondoso!

SWCP: Com 18 anos de treino em artes marciais, acha que de certa forma o ajudou a melhorar a sua performance como ator?

A.M: Acho! Aprendi muitas coisas com as artes marciais. Uma dessas coisas foi o compromisso. Isto aplica-se à atuação de  vários modos diferentes. Você tem de se comprometer com o seu personagem ao mesmo tempo que fica comprometido consigo mesmo. Você também tem de ficar comprometido em melhorar. As artes marciais são uma ENORME parte de quem sou, portanto posso relacioná-las a tudo! Ha!ha … posso avançar sem parar.

SWCP: Que mensagem quer enviar aos fãs de Clone Wars?

A.M: Muito obrigado por todo o apoio e bondade! Vocês são seriamente os melhores fãs. Estou tão agradecido por ser uma parte da família de Star Wars! Se vocês gostam do que eu faço como ator de voz, por favor sintonizem a próxima temporada no Canal Disney onde estarei interpretando o Marco Diaz numa nova série animada chamada Estrela e as Forças do mal! Realmente estou excitado sobre este projeto! Muito obrigado Paulo! Espero que lhe tenha dado algumas boas respostas!

Adam McArthur is a series regular on animated shows and commercials. In Star Wars: Clone Wars (CGI) he was the voice of Prince Lee Char.

SWCP: Despite you are young, you reveal a maturity, having interesting texture and rich tones. Did you have any kind of formation to reach this level?

A.M: First of all, thank you!  What I love about Clone Wars is that the writing and the characters are all grounded in real emotion.  Of course there are lighter moments, but the writing really lends itself toward a grounded reality.  I grew up in a very loving family and had parents who really taught me what it meant to be a strong, confident person who can empathize and relate to others and not be afraid to show emotion and sensitivity.  With Lee-Char, here was this kid who just lost his father and had this incredible weight on his shoulders, so being in touch with a side of myself that could relate (we've all experienced loss in some form), I think really helped me show his maturity and vulnerability.  In addition, Dave Filoni is fantastic in that he really helped me hone in on certain aspects of the character, like knowing when to be strong and when to be more transparent emotionally.  I think all of those elements combined helped the character form.

SWCP: Tell us about your character (Prince Lee-Char) on the animated series Clone Wars. 

A.M:I guess I already kind of talked about him a little bit in question one, but man what a joy it was to play such a cool character.  Lee-Char had so many different layers and the journey he had over the first 3 episodes of season 4 was huge!  He started off so uncertain of who he was and how he fit in, but then through elements beyond his control, he was forced to grow up and take his father's throne as the rightful king.  I mean how cool is that?!  Ha!ha… I love Lee-Char!

SWCP: How did you get the role of this character?

A.M: The casting process for Clone Wars is very secretive.  I got an audition for a character and a project that I later discovered (once I had booked the role and arrived at the recording studio!) was Clone Wars.  They used a code name for both the show and my character!  Other than that, it was like any other audition… little did I know.

SWCP: Have you been able to interact with the fans of this series?  

A.M: I have had a few opportunities to interact with the fans!  One is happening right now! :)  One of my favorite experiences was with many of the young fans who attended the season 4 premiere at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA.  I love kids.  And it was so cool to see how much they loved the first  episode.  They were running around in their costumes with their lightsabers.  It was a blast!

SWCP: 18 Years of formal training in martial arts do you think that helped you to improve your skills as an actor?

A.M: I do!  I've learned many things from martial arts.  One of those things is commitment.  That applies to acting in several different ways.  You have to be committed to your character, while staying committed to yourself.  You also have to stay committed to improving.  Martial arts is a HUGE part of who I am, so I can relate it to everything!  Haha… I could go on and on.    

SWCP: What message would you like to leave for the Clone Wars fans?

A.M: Thank you so much for all the support and kindness!  You guys are seriously the best fans.  I'm so grateful to be a part of the Star Wars family!   Also, if you love what I do as a voice actor, please tune in next fall to the Disney Channel where I'll be voicing Marco Diaz in a brand new animated series called Star and the Forces of Evil!  I'm really excited about this project!
