Entrevistas SWCP: Peter Shinkoda

O ator Canadiano de origem asiática Peter Shinkoda tem participado em séries e filmes como: Mortal Kombat Legacy,Andromeda,Falling Skies,Sanctuary,Supernatural,entre outros.

SWCP: O que o motivou a enveredar por uma carreira como ator?

P.S: Eu não me recordo de querer fazer mais nada. A TV e os filmes que eu era obcecado desde criança, foram a minha única e maior influência. Eu senti que os asiáticos não estavam representados correctamente e eu queria ir para Hollywood para mudar as coisas.

SWCP: Sendo um grande fã de Steven Spielberg, aprecia também a saga Star Wars?

P.S: Eu sou o maior fã de Star Wars!!! Vi todos os originais no cinema, começando com o episódio IV em 1977, era ainda um bebé. Fila 7 horas para ver o "Retorno de Jedi", quando eu era criança - somente depois de ler a novelização 2 ou 3 vezes antes da estreia do filme. Só espero que as sequelas futuras incluam uma personagem asiática, porque não há nenhuma na série embora é de conhecimento comum que o George Lucas se tenha baseado numa série de filmes do Akira Kurosawa.

SWCP: Já tem alguma experiência em filmes e séries de ficção científica como: Falling Skies,Andromeda,I Robot e Stargate SG-1.Que personagem gostaria de interpretar mais neste tipo de filmes/séries?

P.S: Eu adoraria voltar a representar esses papéis se alguma vez forem expandidos - na maioria dos meus trabalhos, parece que eles eram todos como uma "filial". Eu adoraria ver Hollywood colocar mais fé e expansão nas histórias com personagens asiáticos em vez de fazê-los unicamente como o papel do "Token".

SWCP: A música continua a ser uma das suas paixões. Que tipo de música aprecia?

P.S: Eu não posso definir o meu gosto musical especificamente. Eu cresci a estudar piano clássico formalmente e de ter uma boa compreensão da música assim como teoria musical e história. Dito isso, gosto de todos os géneros de música mas devo admitir que tenho uma afinidade para com o rock alternativo, no entanto, dificilmente ouço rádio.

SWCP: Em que projectos está actualmente a trabalhar?

P.S: Completei recentemente vários filmes Indie: The Lady Killers e Western Religion no final de 2013. No início deste ano, em Janeiro, fui para o Havaí como estrela-convidada na série Hawaii-FIVE-O no episódio "Fan Built" que vai para o ar no dia 4 de abril na CBS nos EUA. Se você olhar atentamente você pode me encontrar num cameo do Godzilla em IMAX no Memorial Day, a 16 de maio.

SWCP: Que mensagem quer enviar aos seus fãs?

P.S: Mantenham vivas as vossas esperanças e sonhos!!!! Só vocês podem manifestar o vosso próprio futuro - façam-no acontecer!!!

The Canadian actor Peter Shinkoda, has been participated in several TV series and films such as: Mortal Combat Legacy, Andromeda, Falling Skies, Sanctuary, Supernatural, among others.

SWCP: What made you decide into acting?

P.S: I have no memories of wanting to do ANYTHING else. The TV and movies that I obsessed over as a child were my biggest and only influence. I felt that Asians weren't represented properly and I wanted to get to Hollywood to change things.

SWCP: Being a great fan of Steven Spielberg, do you like also the Star Wars saga?

P.S: I am the hugest Star Wars fan!!! Saw all the originals in the theatre starting with Episode IV in '77 as a baby. I lined up for 7 hours to see "Return of the Jedi" when I was a kid - only after I read the novelization 2 or 3 times before the film was released. I can only hope that the future sequels will include an Asian character because there are none in the series although it is common knowledge that George Lucas heavily based the saga on a number of Akira Kurosawa films.

SWCP: You already have some experience in sci fi movies/series such as Andromeda Robot, Stargate SG-1, etc. Which character would you liked to play more in this genre?

P.S: I'd love to reprise any of these roles if they were to ever expand on them - it seems they were all "subsidiary" roles like most of my jobs. I'd love to see Hollywood put more faith into expanding on Asian characters in stories as opposed to making them solely the "token" minority role.

SWCP: Music continued to be passions for you.What kind of music do you like?

P.S: I can't define my specific musical taste. I grew up studying formally classical piano and have a good grasp on music as well as music theory and history. That being said, I love all genres of music but must admit that I have an affinity towards alternative rock, yet I hardly listen to the radio. 

 

SWCP: In which projects are you currently working for?

P.S: I've been laying low the last year to reassess what I got into this business for. Recently I completed several American indies , Jackhammer, The Lady Killers and Western Religion in late 2013. Earlier this year in January, I went to Hawaii to guest star on the Hawaii-FIVE-O "Fan Built Episode" that airs on April 4th on CBS in the USA. If you look very closely you may catch me in a cameo in Godzilla IMAX this Memorial Day, May 16th.

SWCP: What message would you like to leave for your fans?

P.S: Keep your hopes and dreams alive!! Only YOU can manifest your own future - make it happen!!!!!
