ator/duplo no cinema?
B.W: Parei
participou?
B.W: Eu e um
grande amigo meu o Jan Petrina, ambos dobrámos o Chris Pratt no papel do Star
Lord.
estive lá porque saí para trabalhar em `Man from U.N.C.L.E´).Também fiz todo o
B.W: A minha
Eu estava pendurado a 20
traje do Capitão
ENGLISH VERSION:
Ben Wright retired from top level gymnastics at 21,and
moved into the entertainment industry as an actor/stuntman in several films
such as: Captain America: The first avenger, Clash of the titans,Thor:The dark world,
among others.
SWCP: Why did you decide to stop competing in
gymnastics and started to pursue a career as a stuntman?
B.W: I stopped competing in gymnastics at 21 years old
because it was time for my life to move on. We had achieved more than we ever
thought we would and we both wanted more out of life. I didn't give up Gymnastics
for Stunt work but I did give up gymnastics to start the next chapter of my
life.
SWCP: You were one of Chris Pratt´s doubles on `The
guardians of the Galaxy’. In which scenes did you work?
B.W: Myself and a very good friend of mine Jan Petrina
both doubled Chris Pratt as Star Lord. I did all the opening scenes with the
Orb, the chase scene, the jump up until the slide on the Milano, Jan did the
fall into the Milano then the tumbling inside (I was not there for that I left
to work on Man from U.N.C.L.E). I also did all of Xander Mall with the Gamora
chase and fight (most of the fight on the floor was the actors). I also was
there for the Prison scene and some of the ends fight. But Jan did most of the
end sequence.
SWCP: You endured several injuries and a small fortune
on physical therapy. Is that why you decided to study human anatomy and sports
rehabilitation?
B.W: I endured many injuries as a top level competitor
in gymnastics and until we were in the British Team all our therapy was taken
care of personally. I spent a small fortune on physical therapists, Osteopaths
and sports massage therapists who were either under qualified or over charged
when they had no idea. That is why I studied sports rehab so not very good
therapists could not take me for a ride and charge ridiculous amounts of money
when they were not sure what was wrong. I went on to become a highly qualified
Personal trainer with a good understanding of Human Anatomy and sports rehab.
Once in the British team my Rehab was taken care of and I found my Osteopath
Stephen Makinde who I still see to this day. I will not go anywhere else, the
man is amazing.
SWCP: Speaking of injuries, what was your most
dangerous stunt?
B.W: My most dangerous stunt that i can talk about was
on Thor 2. I was hung 20ft in the air and swung through two lanes of traffic
before being released hitting a bollard and rolling on the concrete. The most
dangerous Stunt I have done was on a movie that’s not out yet!! So I can't talk
about it. The movie is out in Jan so we can talk about it then!!
SWCP: Do you think the current CGI-Computer generated
imagery, undermined the work for stunt actors?
B.W: I don´t think it undermines what we do but I
think done right it can enhance what we do, take for example super hero movies,
We start the flying or very large jump and then CGI takes over. I don't think
CGI has it right at the moment, It can't imitate real human movement but it can
take real movement and then take over. For me there is nothing better than real
action it looks better. But I am sure the day will come when CGI gets so good
and becomes more affordable and they will replace us...... Hopefully after I am
retired!!
SWCP: You were one of Chis Evans doubles in `Captain
America: The first avenger’. How it was this experience?
B.W: Hah, ha! Again I doubled Chris Evans with Jan
Petrina, All of the action done from the Lab where he gets the injection (light
brown T shirt and jeans too short again light brown) was me, most of the action
in the suit (Cap A suit) was Jan and some of it was me. I really enjoyed
working for Chris because he let me and Jan get on with it. We were both little
kids really pretending to be Cap America. Chris is great to work for knows what
he wants and has a fantastic memory for fights. He is agile and really knows
how to work the camera to make his action look good. What can I say I love
pretending to be a super hero!! Working on Cap America was a great experience
from my boss Steve Dent to the director Joe and Chris Evans. The team on Cap
America was awesome. I have to be honest though I loved Cap America 2 those
boys smashed it, that is how we wanted Cap America to be in the first one!!
Apparently he had to take time and learn to be so uber cool!!!! Oh well I still
loved being a part of it.
