Entrevistas SWCP: Graham Shiels

O ator canadense Graham Shiels,participou em diversos filmes e séries televisivas como: Guardiões da Galáxia,Thor,Arrow,True Blood,entre outros.

SWCP: Fale-nos do seu trabalho no filme `Os guardiões da Galáxia.

G.S: O meu papel em "Guardiões da galáxia" chamava-se Piloto da Nova Alien. O filme é incrível, estou muito feliz por ser uma pequena parte dele! Tive de usar uma incrível maquilhagem amarela que envolveu toda a minha cabeça e lentes de contato amarelas nos meus olhos (muito irritantes!). Há uma foto no meu Twitter @GrahamShiels que me mostra melhor do que no filme. Eles tinham quatro atores, dos quais eu era um deles, o dia que filmamos todas as seis linhas e usaram nós os quatro numa sequência quando os pilotos estavam a tentar parar a nave do vilão no desembarque na Nova, no final do filme, mas mesmo a audição para a essa cena foi intensa! A Sarah Finn, uma das maiores diretoras de casting, realizou as audições e nós não fomos autorizados a ver o material que eles usaram (a partir do papel que o Djimon Hounsou realmente interpretou) até 15 anos minutos antes da hora do teste real. Então, quando nos foi dito que nós os quatro tínhamos conseguido um papel para cada um de nós, pensei que seria muito maior do que uma linha! Ha!Ha(Risos)!

SWCP: É um ávido jogador de hóquei no gelo. Já jogou a nível profissional? 

G.S: Eu joguei hóquei durante nove anos, mas nunca a nível profissional, embora tenha feito um papel de um jogador profissional de hóquei na TV! Ha! ha! Na série "Leverage" na TNT aqui nos EUA. 

SWCP: Na série `True Blood´interpretou o papel do Liam, um vampiro tatuado com um grande apetite sexual. Como foi ter interpretado um vampiro um pouco diferente do habitual? 

G.S: "True Blood" foi uma das maiores bênçãos da minha vida. Por ter trabalhado no material do Alan Ball e também por ser dirigido por ele, foi muito fixe. Interpretar o Liam, o vampiro sanguinário e ávido por sexo, foi super fácil com a direção do Alan nos cenários. Ele queria que tudo fosse muito pedestre todos os dias, nada estereotipado em termos da maneira usual, que você vê num tipo de personagem como o Drácula. E então é claro que ele quer que sejas conduzido pela tua fome/sede. Assim, tendo essas duas diretrizes para trabalhar com isso, foi muito fácil. E divertido!

SWCP: Além de ator, é treinador de atores para audições. Que qualidades principais deve ter um aspirante a ator?  

G.S: Eu treino, ensino e oriento os atores e é um verdadeiro prémio ser capaz de o fazer. Eu aprendo para mim do que a fazer algo que alguma vez lhes possa ensinar!A indiscutível regra número um que um ator precisa para qualquer fase da sua carreira, principalmente no início, é uma indomável crença em si mesmo... Nunca deixe ninguém limitá-lo ou definir os limites do seu talento. Cada um tem uma incrível qualidade para oferecer. Isso é ousado o suficiente para revelar a si mesmo... Isso é o objetivo principal em cada papel.

SWCP: Está atualmente a trabalhar numa nova série para o canal SYFY intitulada `Olympus´ que se estreará em Março de 2015.Pode adiantar-nos algo acerca dessa série? 

G.S: "Olympus" é o meu papel de sonho no meu programa de sonho. Nick Willing, o criador, descreve-o como "Freud fez os gregos." É uma incrível e ousada série para a rede Syfy produzir. Parece que ela se encaixa perfeitamente numa rede como a HBO: Há sexo, assassinato, traição, conspiração, magia, sobrenatural, deuses, monstros... Eu interpreto o rei Egeu, o pai de Teseu que matou o Minotauro. Mas tudo isso é deixado para trás na nossa história. "Olympus" ocorre durante o cerco sobre a antiga Atenas pelo rei Minos de Creta. Eu diria que é como quando “O Padrinho" encontra "A guerra dos tronos". 

SWCP: Que mensagem quer enviar aos seus fãs?

G.S: Sou um ator que vem do teatro. Eu só tive a sorte de participar em algumas produções super legais e agora estou a viver o meu sonho no "Olimpo". Se houver alguém que se possa considerar um meu "fã" eu teria simplesmente de considerá-lo como um amigo que tem talvez a mesma sensibilidade e gostos como eu. E definitivamente, incentivá-lo-ia a me conhecer e dizer "Olá" para mim e falar comigo no Twitter @GrahamShiels que eu irei responder a qualquer pergunta que possa legalmente (ha!ha) ter permissão para responder. Há muito mais para vir e eu mal posso esperar para que "Olympus" vá o ar na Rede do SYFY nos Estados Unidos em abril de 2015!

The Canadian actor Graham Shiels, participated in several films and TV shows such as: The guardians of the galaxy, Thor, Arrow, True Blood, among others.  

SWCP: Tell us about your role on `The guardians of the Galaxy´.

G.S: My role in "Guardians of the Galaxy" was called Alien Nova Pilot. The film is freaking awesome I'm so happy I got to be a small part of it! I got to wear awesome yellow make-up all over my head and yellow contact lenses in my eyes (very irritating!). There's a pic on my Twitter @GrahamShiels that  shows me better than in the film. They had four actors, of which I was  

one, on set the day I shot and we all filmed about six lines and they used all four of us in that one sequence when the pilots were trying to stop the bad guy ship from landing on Nova towards the end of the film but the audition for even just that was intense! Sarah Finn, one of the biggest casting directors in the business, held the auditions and we were not allowed to see the material they used (from the role that Djimon Hounsou actually played) until fifteen minutes before the actual audition time. So when the four of us were told we landed a role we each thought it'd be a lot bigger than a line! Ha!Ha!

SWCP: You are an avid ice hockey player. Did you ever played at professional level?

G.S: I played hockey for nine years but never at the professional level. Though I did play a professional hockey player on TV! Ha!Ha. On the show "Leverage" on TNT here in the U.S. 

SWCP: In `True Blood ‘you played the role of Liam, a tattooed vampire, with a taste for rough sex.How it was to played a role of a vampire a bit different from what we´re used to seeing? 

G.S: "True Blood" was one of the biggest blessings of my life. To get to work on material by Alan Ball and then to be directed by him was pretty awesome. Playing Liam, the blood-thirsty and sex thirsty vampire, was super easy with Alan's direction on set. He wanted everything to be very pedestrian and every day, nothing stereotypical in terms of the usual way you see a Dracula-type character played. And then of course he wanted you to be driven by your hunger/thirst. So having those two guidelines to work with, it was very easy. And fun!

SWCP: Besides actor, you are also an audition coach for actors. Which main skills must have an aspiring actor?

G.S: I do coach, teach, and mentor actors and that's a real gift to be able to do. I learn more myself from doing it than I could ever teach to them! The inarguable number one thing an actor needs to have at any stage of their career, let alone the beginning, is an indomitable belief in themselves… never let anyone limit you or define the limits of your talent. We each have an incredible amount to offer. It's daring enough to reveal yourself… that's the main goal in every role. 

SWCP: You´re currently working in a new show for SYFY channel called `Olympus’. Could you tell us a bit more about this series?

G.S: "Olympus" is my dream role on my dream show. Nick Willing, the creator, describes it as "Freud does the Greeks." It's an incredibly daring show for the Syfy Network to produce. The series feels like it fits into a network much like HBO: there's sex, murder, betrayal, conspiracy, magic, the supernatural, gods, monsters… I play King Aegeus,as in the father of Theseus who killed the Minotaur. But all that is left behind in our story. "Olympus" takes place during ancient Athens being under siege from King Minos of Crete. I would say its "The Godfather" meets "Game of Thrones."

SWCP: What message would you like to send for your fans? 

G.S: I'm an actor who comes from the theatre. I've just been lucky to be a part of some super cool productions and I'm now living my dream on "Olympus." If there was anyone who could be considered a "fan" I would simply consider them a friend who has perhaps the same sensibilities and tastes as I. There's a lot more to come and I can't wait for "Olympus" to air on the Syfy Network in the U.S.A. come April 2015!
