Catherine Munroe é uma atriz inglesa que interpretou os papéis do Mercenário Zuckuss e um Snaggletooth (Em Bespin) no filme Star Wars: O Império Contra Ataca.

SWCP: Fale-nos do seu papel principal em Star Wars (ESB):

C.M: Após o treinamento na escola italiana de teatro de Conti,pediram-me para ir aos Estúdios Elstree para trabalhar no filme Star Wars:The Empire Strikes Back, para interpretar o papel de um caçador de recompensas chamado Zuckuss.

SWCP: Sentiu alguma dificuldade física ao envergar as máscaras e os trajes do Zuckuss e Snaggletooth? 

C.M: Eu realmente não sabia o que esperar de tudo aquilo equipei-me com o traje que decorreu muito bem a vesti-lo até que veio a máscara e quando eu tentei colocá-la, achei-a muito assustadora, pesada e muito difícil de ver ou ouvir com ela, senti-me muito claustrofóbica. Eu era muito jovem e queria causar uma boa impressão; então nunca reclamei, eu era a única senhora no cenário e como tal, fui muito mimada, especialmente porque tinha a minha própria assistente de guarda-roupa pessoal aguardando no local para cuidar de mim. Havia uma cadeira no cenário, quando estava muito calor etc., a máscara era colocada em espiral e eu não podia remove-la como um velho capacete de mergulho por isso a minha assistente ajudou-me muito.

De dentro da cabeça, eu tinha que soprar para um tubo que estava ligado a um cilindro colocado à frente do meu traje, para um líquido colorido que criava bolhas no cilindro. Foi um prazer trabalhar com o Dave Prowse;costumávamos almoçar juntos com os meus outros colegas caçadores de recompensas, o Chris Parsons e o Alan Harris. Tive também de interpretar no filme o Snaggletooth Woikettle com outro ator,em que fomos apelidados de Sr. e Sra. porco por causa das máscaras que usávamos, esta foi uma parte muito mais fácil de interpretar pois eu podia tirar a máscara sempre que queria. 

SWCP: À excepção do Boba Fett,os restantes caçadores de recompensas, não tiveram grande destaque na trilogia clássica de Star Wars.Gostava que o seu personagem tivesse um papel mais ativo?

C.M: Acho que porque o Zuckuss desempenhou um pequeno papel no filme, acabou por ser mais misterioso. É uma personagem muito única e amada por muitas pessoas, estou sempre a receber histórias de livros sobre as aventuras do Zuckuss o que é maravilhoso, e ele será sempre lembrado.

SWCP: Em 1980,foi escolhida para participar num filme do James Cagney,intitulado `Ragtime´,no papel de uma dançarina.Sendo este ator um dos seus ídolos de infância,o que sentiu quando soube que tinha sido escolhida para trabalhar num dos seus filmes?

C.M: O meu herói era e ainda é o James Cagney, quando eu o vi num filme chamado "Angels with dirty faces".Fiquei comovida com a sua atuação de 1939 e segui a sua carreira, ele se aposentou do cinema em meados dos anos sessenta e saiu da aposentadoria para fazer"Ragtime" em que a minha irmã e eu trabalhámos como dançarinas champagne;tive muita sorte de ter o prazer de falar com ele (vejam o meu website para saber mais sobre a minha história): http://www.cathymunroe.com/ 

SWCP: Participou também na popular série televisiva `Dr Who´nos anos 70/80.Fale-nos um pouco sobre o seu papel nesta série.

C.M: Foi muito divertido trabalhar em `Doctor Who´.O orçamento da BBC era baixo não era como a maioria dos filmes, por isso os cenários eram muito pequenos e vacilantes, porém gostei das três séries com os dois médicos.

SWCP: Que mensagem quer enviar aos fãs de Star Wars?

C.M: A minha mensagem para os fãs é simples, eu gostaria de agradecer-lhes pela sua lealdade e interesse no trabalho que tenho feito. Eu e os meus colegas estamos sempre espantados pelo facto de um filme que fizemos há mais de trinta anos é ainda falado, sinto-me muito honrada e privilegiada por ter participado num filme tão importante como E.S.B espero poder continuar a encontrar-vos e conversar sobre a minha história... Uma história que começou naqueles anos-luz atrás...

Catherine Munroe is a British actress who played the roles of Bounty Hunter Zuckuss and a Bespan Snaggletooth on Star Wars:The Empire strikes back.

SWCP: Tell us a bit more about your main role on Star Wars.

C.M: After training at The Italian Conti Stage School I was asked to go to Elstree studios to work on the film Empire Strikes Back I was to play the Bounty hunter named Zuckuss.

SWCP: Did you feel any physical difficulty to wear the Zuckuss and Snagletooth´s costumes/masks? 

C.M: I really did not know what to expect at all I was fitted for the costume which was alright to ware until it came to the headdress when I tried it on it was very daunting, but on too heavy although once fitted it was very difficult to see or hear I felt very claustrophobic. I was very young and wanted to make a good impression so I never complained, I was the only lady on set I was very spoilt, especially as I had my own personal wardrobe assistant standing by on set just to take care of me.There was a chair on set when it got to much the heat etc, the headdress was twisted on I couldn't removed it myself like an old diving helmet so my assistant helped me so much.

From inside the head, I had to blow into a tube which was connected to a cylinder attached to the front of my costume, blowing into the colored liquid would create bubbles in the cylinder. It was so nice to work with Dave Prowse we use to have lunch together and my other fellow Bounty hunters Chris Parsons,Alan Harris etc . I was to stay on the film and play Snaggletooth Woikettle with another actor we were nicknamed

 Mr and Mrs Pig because of the masks we wore that was a much easier part to play I could take off the mask whenever I wanted. 

SWCP: With the exception of Boba Fett,was never given great emphasis to the other bounty hunters in the classic Star Wars trilogy. Would you like that your character had an active role? What do you think they could add to his presence in the film?

C.M: I think that because Zuckuss played a small part in the film it is more mysterious to leave it there It is a very unique character loved by so many people, I’m forever receiving books stories about Zuckuss adventures which is wonderful he will always be remembered.

SWCP: In 1980, you were chosen to participate on a James Cagney´s movie called `Ragtime´ in the role of a dancer. Being you a big fan of this actor, what did you feel when you found out that you had been chose to work in one of his movies?

C.M: My hero was and still is James Cagney when I saw him in a film called "Angels with dirty faces" 1939 I was so moved by his acting I followed his career, he retired from film s in the mid sixties and came out of retirement to make" Ragtime "which both my sister and myself worked on as the champagne dancers and I was very lucky to have the pleasure to talk to him (please see my website for more of my story). 

SWCP: You worked also on the iconic TV show `Doctor Who´(in 70/80´s).Tell us about your work in this show.

C.M: Dr Who was great fun to work on (see website) the budget at the BBC was low not like the major films so the sets were very small and wobbly, however I did enjoy the three series with the two Doctors.

SWCP: What message would you like to send for the fans of Star Wars?

C.M: My messages to the fans is simple I would like to thank them so much for there loyalty and interest in the work we have done my colleges and myself are always amazed that a film we made over thirty years ago is still talked about, I feel very humble and privileged to have been in such an important film as E.S.B I hope that I can continue to meet and talk about my story ...a story which started all those light years ago...
