Entrevistas SWCP: Keith Allan

Keith Allan é um ator e realizador de pequenos filmes americano, que tem trabalhado em diversas séries televisivas como CSI,Entreprise,Mad Men,Buffy-A Caçadora de Vampiros e Z-Nation. 

 

SWCP: Começamos com uma pergunta curiosa: Considera-se um inventor novato, tendo fabricado nos seus tempos livres, a sua própria linha de candeeiros Kinetic.É uma faceta da qual gostaria de ter mais tempo para realizar?

K.A: Bem, eu adoro fazer isso e estou sempre a pensar em coisas novas que poderia inventar. Demora muito tempo e recursos para fazer algo até ao fim. Talvez, quando a série terminar, vou ter mais tempo... Mas por enquanto, estou feliz em inventar este personagem para Z-Nation.

SWCP: O seu personagem (Murphy) em Z Nation,é deveras original;nem é um Zombie mas também não é um humano normal.Como se preparou para este papel?

K.A: Bem você desenha tudo da sua própria vida. Você usa o que os argumentistas lhe dão, e em seguida, inspira-se desde os tempos da sua vida quando você se sentia a algo a que não pertencia, um  exilado e insere tudo isso no seu personagem.

SWCP: O processo de caracterização do seu personagem foi a  parte mais penosa do seu papel? 

K.A: Penso que não. Acho que ser vítima e sendo intimidado por todos à sua volta é mais doloroso. Para dar para a idéia que os humanos vão tratá-lo como um animal e que está sendo conduzido ao mercado sob o seu controle é difícil. Ele é um refém e tem que esperar pela oportunidade de poder afastar-se.

SWCP: Fizemos a mesma pergunta ao Russell Hodgkinson e gostaríamos de saber também a sua opinião: O que distingue esta série sobre as outras do mesmo género?

K.A: Bem, em primeiro lugar é o seu tom. Mantemo-lo um pouco mais divertido e idiota misturado com momentos muito sérios e sinceros. E também o facto de nós termos uma missão...  Termos lugares para onde ir, dá-nos um propósito que não seja apenas sobreviver.

SWCP: É também realizador, produtor e argumentista de curtas-metragens. Em que projetos está atualmente a trabalhar nestas áreas?

K.A: Estou a trabalhar no desenvolvimento de um filme que eu quero dirigir e estrelar. É uma comédia/ romance  chamada  “Hearts Like Fists” com combatentes do crime e super vilões. Você pode ver parte dela em www.heartslikefists.com

SWCP: Que mensagem quer enviar aos seus fãs?

K.A: Bem, esta é a primeira vez na minha carreira que eu realmente tenho fãs além da minha família e amigos. É muito bom saber que as pessoas em todo o mundo estão a ver o meu trabalho e apreciar o que estou a fazer. É como uma grande festa de amor por mim e eu quer mandar esse amor e alegria de volta a cada um de vós e certificar-me de que vocês sabem o quanto aprecio o vosso apoio.

Keith Allan is an American actor and a short films director, producer and writer, who participated in several TV shows such as CSI, Buffy the Vampire Slayer,Mad Men,Z Nation,among others.  

SWCP: We start this interview with a curious question: You consider yourself a novice inventor, having manufactured your own line of kinetic lamps. Is it a facet that you would like to have more spare time to do it?

K.A: Well I love doing it and am always thinking of new things that I could invent. It takes a lot of time and resources to see something through to the end. Maybe when the show ends I’ll have more time…but for now I’m happy inventing this character for Z Nation.

SWCP: Your character (Murphy) in Z Nation Television show, is very unique and original: He´s not a real zombie but is not also a normal human being. How did you prepare yourself for this role?

K.A: Well, you draw everything from your own life. You use what the writers give you then you pull from the times in your own life when you felt like you didn’t belong, that you were the outcast and bring those to the character.

SWCP: The process of characterization of Murphy´s was the most painful part of your role?

K.A: No. I think that being a victim and being bullied by everyone around him is more painful. To give into the ideas that humans are going to treat you like a farm animal that is being led to market and that you are under their control is difficult. He’s a hostage and has to bide his time till he can break away.

SWCP: We did this same question to Russell Hodgkinson and we would like to know your opinion about this: What distinguishes this show about zombies from others of the same genre?

K.A: Well, it’s the tone firstly. We keep it a bit more fun and silly mixed in with very serious and heartfelt moments. Also the face that we have a mission…That we have places to get to gives us a purpose other than just surviving.

SWCP: You´re also a short films director, producer and writer. In which projects are you currently working in this area?

K.A: I’m working on developing a film that I want to direct and star in. It’s a graphic novel comedy called “Hearts Like Fists” Crime fighters and super villains. You can see part of it at www.heartslikefists.com

SWCP: What message would you like to send for your fans?

K.A: Well this is the first time in my career that I’ve actually had fans other than my family and friends. It’s really to cool to know that people around the world are seeing my work and appreciate what I’m doing. It’s like one big love fest for me and I want to send that love and joy back to each and every one of you and make sure you know how much I appreciate your support.
