Dee Tails,é um ator e músico inglês que  em Star Wars tem interpretado papéis de criaturas e dróides nos episódios VII e VIII e em Rogue One.

SWCP: Fale-nos um pouco sobre os seus personagens nos filmes de Star Wars.

D.T: Olá!Bem,isso é uma grande questão para responder sobre todos os personagens que interpretei até agora. Tudo começou com a primeira criatura que fuiconvidado para encarnar que era um pequeno tipo chamado Cratinus,um Ubdurian do castelo da Mazs em ´O Despertar da Força´.Acho que ele surgiu depois de algumas alterações que foram feitas sobre o que eles queriam originalmente das criaturas Hassk para fazer um desses. Que acabou sendo interpretado pelos meus colegas Paul Warren e Nathan Plant(?) No começo, pensei que só ia ser eu a interpretar esta criatura até ter

emparelhado com outro artista de criaturas chamadoTom Bell que se tornaria no personagem do meu irmão gémeo,o Prashee.O modo de como esta dupla trabalhou foi que o Prashee seria sempre o Cratinus que ria, o que não foi difícil de fazer já que era a principal característica do rosto desses personagens,o Prashee tem um sorriso mais subtil, então significava que poderia continuar com nosso comportamento constantemente. Como você pode imaginar, realizar uma pequena personagem engraçada,significava que fazia com que toda a gente sorrisse nos cenários e eu também,escondido dentro da máscara.Movimentava a cabeça manualmente o que significava que não tinha nenhuma mecânica dentro mas eu poderia fazer a sua mandíbula mover-se exagerando interiormente a minha própria mandíbula e também poder mudar as nossas expressões inclinando a cabeça para a frente dando ás expressões fixas uma expressão ligeiramente diferente.
O meu próximo personagem foi o Droid L-1 para o fime `Rogue One´que foi originalmente destinado a ser o droid principal do filme, mas com o desenvolvimento do filme,fizeram outro projeto que originou o incrível dróide K2S0.   

O traje do L-1 que foi feito para mim,serviu que nem uma luva, eu adoro o traje. Ele não era um droid de protocolo como o C3-P0, então tinha de se movimentar de forma um pouco diferente, então eu o fiz mais como um tipo curioso que funcionou muito bem quando eles me deram a oportunidade de interagir com as crianças.     
Em ´The Last Jedi´trabalhei como marionetista de uma personagem chamada Lexo Sooger que foi concebido para aparecer em Canto Bight durante a perseguição com o Finn e a Rose, que acabou por não aparecer no filme, mas está na versão em DVD,nos livros,etc e que consistia em mim a controlar os seus braços enquanto ele massagava um cliente.Também interpretei uma personagem chamada Brother Letrun Pay que aparece durante a perseguição do Fathier quando este atravessa uma parede.

Fiquei   parado enquanto a atriz-dupla Clare Lawrence, me ajudou a guiar já que eu não podia realmente ver fora da cabeça, mas a minha postura era assim,a de um patrono rico de Canto. 
A terceira criatura que encarnei,era um Abednedo chamado Slowen Lo, que era um abastado

habitante de Canto Bight que reclama por o Finn e a Rose terem deixado a sua nave na praia, então mais tarde,ele reporta a situação às autoridades locais. Esse tipo foi realmente divertido de interpretar... a minha cabeça era controlada pelo Olly Taylor, que operou todas as suas expressões faciais. Foi incrível ter descoberto mais tarde que o Joseph Gordon Levitt tinha dobrado a voz do meu personagem.

Em ´SOLO' interpretei um Cloud Rider com um género de uma cabeça de lagarto, este não tinha nenhum mecânismo dentro,não há muita informação sobre essa criatura nem de um do Gotorites que encarnei na cena do jogo de Sabacc. Juntei-me novamente ao Tom Bell pois ambas as nossas criaturas tinham expressões a rir. Estas cabeças eram pesadas para usar e tinham os operadores Marcus Clarke e Wim Oppenheimer a controlar os nossos rostos.O nosso principal desempenho exigido era o de  termos bebidas nas nossas mãos e agir como se estivessemos contentes,o que fizemos com muita diversão.

O meu personagem final que interpretei em SOLO ,foi um capo do Sindicato Pyke que dirigia as minas de Kessel chamado Quay Tolsite.Ele é um Pyke que usa um equipamento que o ajuda a respirar em Kessel já que o planeta é muito tóxico para eles. Ele dirige as minas usando escravos e é insensível,pois só se preocupa com os lucros que pode fazer para o Sindicato Pyke que é um enorme sindicato do crime que trafica especiarias por toda a galáxia.Com tudo o que disse,dei-lhe uma estrutura fortalecida e um comportamento orgulhoso. O traje era muito pesado;a minha pequena roupeira a Chiky Serrano,fez um bom trabalho.A minha cabeça era semelhante á dos droides. Realmente foram as brilhantes luzes para os olhos, as minhas expressões físicas que no geral,achamos que funcionou surpreendentemente bem.   

SWCP: Qual foi o personagem de Star Wars que lhe deu mais diversão a interpretar? 

D.T: Ha!Ha! Você tem que entender que eu amei todos eles porque eu amo Star Wars, mas se tivesse de escolher eu diria que o primeiro seria o Cratinus,ele espalhou tanta alegria enquanto estava nos cenários e o seu riso era tão contagiante, que é o que eu gostaria de esperar e encontrar nas rodagens de Star Wars,especialmente para o primeiro, depois de tantos anos e fazia sentido para mim dar essa sensação e experiência para toda a gente e de me ter dado a oportunidade de atuar em tão amado "palco"como é o de Star Wars. 

SWCP: Tendo a Disney apostado na produção de spin-offs de Star Wars,que personagem gostaria que se fizesse um filme?

D.T: Uau, estou realmente aberto a tudo o que eles queiram que interprete, eu adoro tudo. Não tenho personagens favoritos. Acho que gostaria de ver um filme sobre dróides, só porque eu posso imaginar qualquer história que possa surgir como sendo muito divertida. 

SWCP: Participou na mini-série televisiva,Jekyll & Hyde.Como foi essa experiência?

D.T: Jekyll  & Hyde foi ótimo,surgiu depois de eu ter acabado de filmar em  The Force Awakens e foi estreado precisamente quando comecei a trabalhar em Rogue One, se a minha memória não me falha. Foi ótimo fazer parte da série e as vibrações novas do steam punk que eles estavam a dar a este clássico. Desta vez voçês podem ver o meu rosto todo composto enquanto o resto do meu corpo era um cão feito em CGI. Ele foi chamado de Harbinger por uma boa razão já que ele estava de alguma forma muito profético sobre os maus acontecimentos. Amei este papel,foi parte integrante da apresentação desta formidável série e uma grande produção, espero que eles queiram trazê-la de volta um dia, a história era muito boa.Foi também a minha primeira performance terrestre em Televisão.   

SWCP: Começou a sua carreira nos anos 90 como membro da banda MN8.Do que tem mais saudades desses tempos? 

D.T:  É realmente estranho quando as pessoas me falam sobre a banda, porque parece que foi há muito tempo e que eu não sei se foi um sonho ou não, então alguém diz algo e eu questiono-me sobre como você sabe do meu sonho? Obviamente, sinto falta do pessoal e de tocar ao vivo, mas mesmo antes da banda,estudei numa faculdade de Artes Cénicas com o objetivo de me tornar um ator e mesmo durante o tempo da banda que ainda pretendia alcançar esse objetivo, então agora estou finalmente a fazer o que sempre sonhei.Só me recordo da banda com boas recordações muito de vez em quando, mas nunca sonho em fazê-lo novamente,apesar de não dever dizer nunca, como uma certeza.

SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos fãs de Star Wars? 

D.T: Star Wars tem e sempre levará alegria para as crianças e famílias que eles visam. Eu já amo esses filmes desde a primeira vez que fui apresentado a eles através da realização de documentários Making of e do  cinema real e nunca perdi aquele amor de agradecimento. Agora encontro-me a fazer parte da continuação desta ópera Espacial e ter o talento para contribuir para um sonho de infância e esperando que talvez a minha jornada possa inspirar outras pessoas que também um dia poderão ser uma parte desse sonho numa galáxia muito,muito distante. 


ENGLISH VERSION:

Dee Tails, is an English actor and musician who has interpreted several roles of creatures and droids in the episodes VII and VIII and also in Rogue One.

SWCP: Tell us a little more about your characters in the Star Wars movies.

D.T: Hi there, well that’s a big question to answer I’ve played a few so  far. It all started with the first creature I got asked to play which was the little dude Cratinus an  Ubdurian in Mazs castle in The Force Awakens. He came about after some changes were made to what I guess they originally  wanted the Hassk creatures to do as I was called in to be one of those. Which ended being played by my colleagues Paul Warren and Nathan Plant? At first I thought it was just going to be me performing  this    creature until I  got paired up  with  another creature performer, Tom Bell who would become my  character twin  brother Prashee.The way the pair worked was that Prashee would always be the one making Cratinu laugh, which wasn’t hard to do as that was the main feature of my characters face, while Prashee had more of a subtle smile, so it meant we could just keep going with our behavior constantly. As you can imagine, performing a funny little character like that meant that he would make everyone smile   on set and hidden inside the head me also. Hand this head a pull on which meant it had no mechanics inside but I could make his jaw move by   exaggerating mine from inside, and could also change our expressions by  tilting our head forward giving the fixed expressions a slightly different expression. 

 
My next character I was asked to play was the L-­‐1 Droid for Rogue One    who was originally meant to  be the main droid of the film, but as the film    developed so did his design which lead to the  amazing K2S0 droid.   
My L-­‐1 suit was made to fit me like a glove, I love wearing that suit.He wasn’t a protocol droid like C3-­‐P0 so he had to move a little different    so I made him more of an inquisitive type which worked really well when    they gave me the children to interact with. 

    
 In The Last Jedi, I got to puppeteer a character called Lexo Sooger who was  meant to appear in Canto Bight during the chase with Finn and Rose, who didn’t end up in the movie but he did end up  on  the DVD and in the books,etc,which consisted of me controlling his arms while he massaged a customer. I also got to play a character called Brother Letrun Pay who does appear during the Fathier chase as the Fathier’s break through a wall. I’m stood with actress stunt woman Clare Lawrence, who helped to guide me as I couldn’t actually see out of the head, but my posture was that of  a wealthy patron of Canto. The third creature I got to play was an Abednedo creature called Slowen Lo who 

was a wealthy inhabitant of Canto Bight who complains about Finn and Rose leaving their ship on the beach, then he later points them out to the local authorities. This guy was really fun to play    and my head was controlled by Olly Taylor, who operated all his facial expressions. It was amazing to later find out that Joseph Gordon Levitt had    voiced my character and then it was even cooler to discover I’d been named after a Beastie Boys song ‘Slow and Low’.   

In  ´SOLO`  I got to play a Cloud Rider with somewhat of  a lizard head, this    was a pull on head so it had no mechanics inside, there isn’t too much info    on this guy at the moment or one of the Gotorites I got to play i  the Sabacc  scene. I’m joined once again by Tom Bell as both our creatures had    laughing expressions. These heads were heavy to wear and had operators Marcus  Clarke and Wim Oppenheimer controlling our faces. Our main   performance required us to have drinks in our hands and to act merry   which we did with great fun. The final character I got to play in SOLO was a Pyke Syndicate capo who ran the mines of Kessel by the name of Quay Tolsite.

He’s a Pyke incased inside a suit that helps him breath on Kessel as    the planet is very toxic to them. He runs the mines by using slaves and is heartless as in he only cares about the profits he can make for the Pyke    Syndicate who are a  huge crime syndicate behind  the trafficking of Spice throughout the galaxy With all that said I gave him an empowered strut    and proud demeanor. The costume was very heavy which helped me to    perform out of it, as it meant I had to carry it and myself a certain way. My tiny dresser Chiky Serrano did a good job lifting that thing. My head was similar to a droids as all I had.   
Really were the glowing yellow lights for eyes, so my physical expressions   we’re going to have performed through it all which worked amazingly well.   

SWCP: What was the character of Star Wars that gave it more fun to play? 

D.T: Ha-ha! You have to understand that I’ve loved them all because I love Star Wars, but if I had to chose I’d say the very first one,Cratinus he just spread so much joy while he was on set and his laughter was so infectious, I mean that’s what I would’ve wanted to see or what I would’ve liked to expect from being on a Star Wars set  especially for the first one back after so many years and it just made sense to me to give that feeling and experience back to everyone giving me the opportunity to perform on  such beloved stage as that of Star Wars.     
 
SWCP: Having Disney wagered on production of Star Wars spin-offs, which character would you like to watch in an eventual movie? 

D.T: Wow, I’m really open to whatever they want to throw at me really, I love it all. I don’t really have favorite characters like. I suppose I’d like to see a movie about droids only because I can imagine whatever story they come up with being pretty damn cool.           

SWCP: You have a role in the Television mini-series, Jekyll & Hyde. How it was this experience?

D.T: Jekyll & Hyde was great, it happened just after I’d finished filming on The Force Awakens, and was aired just as I started on Rogue One if my memory serves me. It was great to be a part of that show and the new  steam punk vibes they were giving to this classic. This time you get to see my face all made up while the rest of my body was a CGI dog. He was  called the Harbinger for very good reason as he was somehow very  prophetic about evil coming events. Loved this role he was an integral part  of the show’s exposition it was a great show and great production, I hope  they want to bring it back one day the writing was great. I was also my first  terrestrial T.V performance.           

SWCP: You started your career in the 90´s as a member of the band MN8. What are you missing those times?

D.T: It’s really weird when people mention the band to me, because it  feels like it was so long ago that I’m not sure if it was a dream or not, then  someone says something and I’m like how do you know about my dream? Obviously I miss the guys loads and performing live but even before the  group I’d studied at a Performing Arts College aiming to become an actor, and even during the time of the band I still wanted to become an actor, so now I’m finally doing what I’d always dreamed to do I only ever look back at the band with fond memories very once in a while, but never dream of doing it again, although one should never say never, right.             

SWCP: What message would you like to send for Star Wars fans?

D.T: Star Wars has and will always bring joy to the children and families  they are aimed at. I’ve love these movies from the very first time I was   introduced to them through the Making of Documentaries to the actual   movies and have never lost that love of appreciation. Now  I find myself   being apart of the continuation of the Space Opera having a talent to   contribute to a childhood dream and hope that maybe my journey can   inspire others who will also one day be a part of this dream in a galaxy   far, far way.
