Entrevistas SWCP: James Embree

James Embree é um ator/duplo inglês que tem participado em diversos filmes como: Prometheus,Wonder-Woman,Robin Hood,O Passageiro,entre outros.Em Solo: Uma história de Star Wars,Embree foi o duplo do ator Woody Harrelson.

SWCP: Fale-nos um pouco sobre o seu trabalho em Solo: Uma história de Star Wars. 

J.E:  Sou um duplo profissional e para 'Solo: Uma História de Star Wars' dobrei o ator Woody Harrelson que interpreta o Beckett,nas cenas de ação.  Trabalhando para o diretor/duplo e co-ordinator da 2ª unidade, Brad Allan, a equipa de duplos e eu iriamos ensaiar e ensinar o elenco sobre os prós e contras de sequências de ação, bem como dobrá-los para as cenas fisicamente mais complicadas.  Havia muito o que fazer por causa do tamanho de algumas das sequências e o montante da participação dos atores nelas.O  Woody, sendo o tipo de personagem mentor do Solo, tinha muita ação para fazer,especialmente trabalho com armas já que como ele é uma espécie de cowboy do espaço que lança e gira as suas duas pistolas. Mantemo-nos todos ocupados com certeza.

SWCP: É fã do universo Star Wars?  

J.E: Já era um fã da trilogia Original desde criança, eu estava na idade certa e na verdade vi 'Return of the Jedi' no cinema quando tinha quatro ou cinco anos. Solo é o 3º filme de Star Wars em que já trabalhei,mas é sempre incrível fazer tais filmes épicos, com certeza. 

SWCP: Trabalhou também no filme Star Wars: O despertar da Força.Que papel interpretou? 

J.E: Trabalhei no 'Episódio VII' em 2014, sendo o primeiro da nova série e o primeiro filme de Star Wars depois de mais de 10 anos, foi uma experiência incrível É um prazer trabalhar com o JJ Abrams ;ele fez exatamente o que você queria que fosse todo o filme.  Nós fizemos bastante cenas de ação pelo que também nos manteve muito ocupados, mas foi uma grande experiência.  

SWCP: Tendo sido o duplo de tantos atores de renome como o Daniel Craig,Woody Harrelson,Jason Statham e Brad Pitt,recorda-se de alguma situação engraçada ou fora do normal que tenha ocorrido com eles ou consigo durante as rodagens dos filmes?  

J.E:  Tenho a dizer que uma das mais estranhas experiências que tive foi no filme do James Bond 'Espectro'.Dobrei o Daniel Craig naquele filme e para as filmagens, tinha uma máscara de prótese total para me fazer parecer com o Daniel o quanto possível.Na verdade, conheci a sua mãe que me foi apresentada nos cenários do filme quando eu ainda  tinha a máscara colocada... ela achou muito,muito estranho, pois de uma certa distância ela pensou que eu era ele, mas obviamente quando me cheguei mais perto ,ela lá percebeu que havia duas versões quase idênticas do seu filho caminhando em direção a ela que não soube muito bem como reagir, foi realmente muito engraçado... talvez não para ela!!!

SWCP: Qual foi até agora,o seu trabalho mais arriscado na indústria cinematográfica?  

J.E: Quanto ao risco, tudo o que fazemos tem um elemento do mesmo, caso contrário não estaríamos envolvidos.  Claro pode variar enormemente, desde o risco de torcer um tornozelo ou tropeçar a descer alguns degraus, até arriscando cair de um prédio ou de um helicóptero a voar por exemplo. É uma questão de avaliar o nível de risco e gerenciá-lo das formas mais adequadas e seguras para torná-lo excitante e emocionante e ao mesmo tempo,mantê-lo tão seguro como é fisicamente possível.

SWCP: Se lhe fosse dado a escolher um personagem de Star Wars para interpretar ou dobrar,qual escolheria?  

J.E: Tanto quanto quem/ou o que eu gostaria de ter feito no universo de Star Wars,teria de dizer que eu sempre quis fazer um western dobrando o Woody,que em `Solo´foi relativamente semelhante. Vestindo o traje e girando as pistolas ao tentar sequestrar um 'trem', (mesmo sendo este um cargueiro espacial) foi muito fixe.Por isso estou muito grato.

James Embree is an english actor/stunt who participated in several movies and Television shows such as: Prometheus,Wonder-Woman,Robin Hood,007,among others.In Solo: A Star Wars Story,Embree was the double of Woody Harrelson. 

SWCP: Tell us about your work on Solo: A Star Wars Story. 

 

J.E:  I’m a professional Stuntman and for ‘Solo - A Star Wars story’ I stunt Doubled for Actor Woody Harrelson who plays Beckett.  Working for 2nd Unit Director/Stunt co-ordinator Brad Allan, the Stunt team and myself would work out, rehearse and teach the cast all the beats and ins and outs of the action sequences as well as stand-in for the more physically tricky scenes.  There was a lot to do because of the sheer size of some of the sequences and the amount of actor involvement in them.  Woody, being the sort of mentor character to Solo had alot of action to do especially weapon work as he plays a sort of space cowboy and throws and spins his double pistols about a lot. It kept us all busy that’s for sure. 

SWCP: Are you a fan of the Star Wars universe?  

J.E: I was a fan of the Original trilogy as a kid, I was just the right age and actually saw ‘Return of the Jedi’ in the cinema when I was 4 or 5.  Solo is the 3rd Star Wars film I’ve worked on but its always going to be amazing to do such epic films that’s for certain. 

SWCP: You also worked in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. What role did you play?  

J.E: I worked on ‘Episode VII’ back in 2014 for the duration of that shoot, being the first of the new series and the first Star Wars film for 10 + years it was an amazing experience. JJ Abrams is such a pleasure to work with, he made the whole event exactly what you’d have wanted it to be.  We did a lot of action stuff in that one also which kept us very busy but it was a great experience.  

SWCP: Having been the double of so many renowned actors such as Daniel Craig, Woody Harrelson, Jason Statham and Brad Pitt, do you remember any funny or unusual situation that has occurred with them or with you during the filming? 

J.E: I have to say one of the weirdest experiences I’ve had was on the James Bond movie ‘Spectre’.  I stunt doubled Daniel Craig on that film also and for that shoot I had a full prosthetic mask on everyday so as to look as much like Daniel as possible, I was actually introduced to his Mum on set by him whilst in the mask...she found it very very strange to say the least, from a distance she thought I was him but obviously as I got closer she realised there where 2 almost identical versions of him walking towards her and she didn’t quite know how to react, it was actually pretty funny...maybe not for her though!!!

SWCP: What was so far,your most risky work in the film industry? 

J.E: As far as risk goes, everything we do has an element of it, otherwise we wouldn’t be involved.  Of course it can vary massively, from risk of twisting an ankle or tripping down some steps, right through to risking falling off a building or out of a flying helicopter for example. It’s about assessment of the level of risk and managing it in the most appropriate and safe ways to make it exciting and thrilling while keeping it as safe as is physically possible.

SWCP: If you were given to choose a character from Star Wars to play or double, which would you choose?  

J.E: As far as who/what I’d like to have done in the Star Wars Universe, I’d have to say I have always wanted to do a western so doubling Woody was pretty damn close. Wearing the costume and spinning around those pistols while trying to hijack a ‘train’, (even if it was a space freighter) was pretty cool. It’s probably as close as I’ll get and for that I’m very grateful.
