Entrevistas SWCP:Gideon Emery

O actor Gideon Emery nasceu em Inglaterra,mas mudou-se desde muito cedo para a África do Sul.Além de trabalhar em vários filmes e séries famosas como NCIS-Los Angeles,The Mentalist,CSI-N.Y,etc,é também um actor de teatro e de dobragens onde foi a voz dos personagens Lott Dod,Mee Deechi e Kerch Kushi na série animada Clone Wars.

SWCP: participou no episº 21 da série NCIS-Los Angeles(2ª temporada)no papel de Jeff Kinto.Como foi ter contracenado com a actriz portuguesa Daniela Ruah?

G.E:ela é linda e simpática. Infelizmente nunca contracenamos na mesma cena,por isso não chegamos realmente a trabalhar juntos.Acho que ela é formidável.

SWCP:dos três personagens que deu voz na série animada Clone Wars,qual foi o seu favorito?

G.E:gostei muito do Lott Dod,porque ele é maléovolo e está sempre a tramar alguma coisa,também foi uma voz divertida de criar e para um homem que não tem nariz,pelo menos tem um grande chapéu.Ele deve ter uns músculos do pescoço fortes!

SWCP: foi também a voz do personagem Col Serra no vídeojogo Star Wars:Battlefront-Renegade Squadron.Pode falar-nos um pouco acerca desse personagem pouco conhecido?

G.E: boa pergunta.Acho que ele não tinha ainda esse nome quando eu fiz a sua voz.Penso que era um comandante imperial,mas como fiz mais algumas vozes de personagens desse jogo e já foi há alguns anos atrás,é difícil ter a certeza-Peço desculpa por isso!

SWCP: sabemos que escalou o Monte Kilimanjaro em 1998.Que tal foi essa experiência?

G.E: foi fantástica.Defini algumas metas em meados dos anos 90:fazer um espectáculo a solo,escalar o Kilimanjaro e mudar-me para Los Angeles.A escalada ao Kilimanjaro foi a mais fácil.Haha!não era uma escalada técnica,mas ainda assim há apenas uma taxa de sucesso na ordem dos 40%.É muito bonito ver como a paisagem muda drásticamente à medida que subimos.No início é quase uma floresta tropical,depois torna-se num terreno mais aberto,e em seguida,é como uma paisagem de Marte-terra avermelhada e plana com algumas pedras dispersas.E na subida final,é só neve e gelo.No último dia parti à 1/2 noite para a subida final de seis horas,para poder estar no topo de África ao nascer do Sol.Estava um dia claro quando lá cheguei e foi magnífico.

SWCP: pode explicar-nos o seu lema "Não esperes nada.Antecipa-te a tudo"?

G.E: a vida é imprevisível;o que vai acontecer,acontece.Podes te esforçar para conseguir certas coisas,e às vezes até ter sucesso,mas outras vezes não.Gostaria de ser contratado para todos os trabalhos em que faço audições,mas isso seria irreal.Então,não invisto em resultados.Mas é importante também para antecipar as mudanças e acertos.Por isso enquanto não ficar animado ou preocupado com os eventos que estão fora do meu controlo,atrás da minha cabeça,eu já os estou a planear caso eles aconteçam.Dá-me mais conteúdo como actor,porque a maior parte da vida de um actor é a rejeição-eu não consigo os trabalhos mais vezes do que seria de desejar.Se fico animado em cada audição ou a pensar muito sobre ela a toda a hora,fico louco.Por isso não espero nada;vou e procuro fazer uma boa audição,mas acima de tudo,passar um bom tempo,ser amigável e sair.Não espero para conseguir o trabalho,mas ao mesmo tempo antecipo-me a um certo nível para não ficar surpreendido quando sou contratado.Não sei se isto faz algum sentido,mas é assim que eu funciono e isso mantém-me ligado à terra.

SWCP: que mensagem gostaria de deixar aos seus fãs portugueses?

you worked in episode 21 of NCIS-L.A series (second season)in the role of Jeff Kinto.How was acting with the portuguese actress Daniela Ruah? G.E:She was gorgeous and friendly. Unfortunately we were never in the same shot, so we didn't really get to work together. I think she's great on the show. SWCP: of 3 characters that you gave voice in Clone Wars series,which was your favourite? G.E: I enjoyed Lott Dod the most, because he is scheming and malevolent. It was also a fun voice to create. And for a man who has no nose, at least he has a very big hat. He must have strong neck muscles! SWCP: you were also the voice of the character Col Serra in the videogame Star Wars:Battlefront Renegade Squadron.Can you tell us a little more about this unknown character? G.E: Good question. I don't think he had that name when I did the voice. I think he's an Imperial commander,but as I voiced a few characters in the game and it's a few years ago, it's hard to be certain. Sorry about that! SWCP: we know that you climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 1998.How was that experience? G.E: Fantastic. I set a few goals in the mid 1990's - doing a one-man show, climbing Kilimanjaro and moving to Los Angeles. Climbing Kilimanjaro was the easiest of the 3. Haha! It's not a technical climb, but there is still only a 40% success rate. It's quite beautiful as the landscape changes dramatically as you climb. In the beginning it's almost rain forest, then it becomes more open ground and then it's like a Mars landscape - flat reddish earth and these boulders lying here and there. And the final ascent is snow and ice. On the final day, you set off at midnight for the 6 hour final ascent, so that you can be at the top of Africa for sunrise. It was a clear day when I got there and it was magnificent. SWCP: could you explain us your motto "Expect nothing.Anticipate everything"? G.E: Life is unpredictable. What will happen will happen. You can strive to achieve certain things, and sometimes you succeed and sometimes you don't. I would like to be hired for every job I audition for, but that's unrealistic. So I don't emotionally invest in outcomes. But it is important also to anticipate changes and successes. So while I don't get excited or concerned about events that are outside my control, in the back of my head I am planning just in case they do. It's made me more content as an actor, because most of an actor's life is about rejection - I don't get the job more often than I do. If I got excited about every audition or thought about it all the time, I would go mad. I would. So I don't expect anything. I go in and aim to do a good audition but above all, to have a good time, be friendly and leave. I do not expect to get the job. But at the same time I anticipate it on some level, so I am not surprised when they hire me. I don't know if that makes any sense, but that's how I function and it keeps me grounded. SWCP:would you like to leave a message for your fans in Portugal? G.E: Thank you for watching me and listening to my characters! I hope one day to make it out there. The "closest" I've been is Mozambique, which is Portuguese speaking, of course, but not really close. Haha.
