O inglês Christian Simpson é um actor, escritor e compositor, tendo participado no episódio I de Star Wars no papel do piloto LT. Gavyn Sykes (Bravo6).
SWCP: Apesar do seu personagem no episódio I de Star Wars não ter tido um papel muito relevante, já nos videojogos “Battle for Naboo” e “Star Wars Galaxies” (2003) esse personagem assume alguma notoriedade. Pode falar-nos um pouco acerca dele?
C.S: Parece que os fãs de Star Wars fizeram isso por mim, já que encontrei uma grande ajuda em http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gavyn_Sykes. Esta ajuda levou-me a percorrer a infância do meu alterar ego e ao conhecimento de que ganhei (como personagem) a minha experiência ao navegar pelas catacumbas de Naboo! É realmente um maravilhoso privilégio saber que - de um pequeno modo - há outra versão de mim que viveu uma vida que está explicada tão meticulosamente. Também podem conhecer algo mais acerca deste personagem, desde que era Tenente durante a Batalha de Naboo, até se ter tornado no Capitão Sykes que é promovido na altura de Star Wars Galaxies já depois da Batalha de Yavin. Em algum lugar por aí, a sua jornada continua. Talvez num futuro episódio de televisão seja revelado o seu destino!
SWCP: Aguarda com alguma curiosidade, o lançamento de Star Wars: Episódio I em 3D nos cinemas?
C.S: Estou muito entusiasmado com a ideia de ver-me novamente na grande tela, só que desta vez em 3D. De facto nunca me vi em 3D, já que dizem os espelhos são em 2D, segundo sei. Ou é apenas um maldoso rumor Sith? Uma das minhas principais cenas no filme que sempre descrevia às pessoas era "mesmo por cima da Natalie Portman na primeira filmagem da celebração final".
Isto porque eu estava atrás dela, mas mais alto. Agora posso de facto dizer "mesmo ATRÁS dela", já que o 3D tratará dessa proximidade! Não quero dizer com isto que estar por cima da Natalie seja um mau pensamento. Tenho entradas para a noite de estreia do filme em Londres, pelo que lá estarei desfrutando como um fã, agora que as memórias de ter trabalhado nele se vão desvanecendo.
SWCP: Ganhou alguma experiência no campo da escrita de guiões ao ter trabalhado com grandes nomes da 7ª arte como George Lucas, Steven Spielberg,Christopher Nolan,entre outros?
C.S: Observar o G. Lucas a trabalhar em Star Wars quando entrei no Episódio I, e novamente no Episódio III, e depois no projeto do Spielberg “Band of Brothers”, com o Ridley Scott em “Gladiator” e com o Chris Nolan em “Batman Begins” tem me dado um grande discernimento sobre o meu próprio trabalho como argumentista. Concluí o argumento do filme “Gravity Pull” sobre o qual podem ver mais em www.gravitypullmovie.com bem como a comédia “Sorry I didn´t mean to kill you”que está actualmente a ser comercializada. Estou a desenvolver agora uma série de televisão de ficção científica chamada “The Chrononaut” que inclui muitos elementos de ficção científica daqueles tais filmes onde se incluem viagens no tempo e alienígenas. Observar esses mestres da narração de histórias teve um impacto profundo no meu próprio modo de contar tais histórias.
SWCP: No episódio III foi o “Stand In” do Anakin Skywalker nas gravações feitas no Reino Unido. Como foi essa experiência?
C.S: Foi incrível, trabalhar de forma tão próxima com o Hayden - o homem que se tornaria no Vader. Se puder imaginar ser-se fã e então ao entrar no local nas filmagens e encontrar o George Lucas que te começa a chamar "Anakin", é tão difícil manter uma postura profissional e não nos entusiasmarmos demasiado, mas naturalmente fui profissional à regra! It's truly a wonderful privilege to know that - in a small way - there is another version of me who has lived a life that has been explained so meticulously. You also learn of his character arc, from Lieutenant at the time of the Battle of Naboo, to Captain Sykes being promoted by the time of Star Wars Galaxies after the Battle of Yavin. Somewhere out there, his journey is continuing. Maybe some future TV episode will reveal his later fate!
SWCP: Do you look forward the debut of Star Wars: Episode I 3D in the theatres this week?
C.S: I am very excited to see myself again on the big screen, only this time in 3D. In fact I've never seen myself in 3D, as they say mirrors are 2D I believe. Or is that just an evil sith rumor? One of the main scenes or shots of me in the film was always described by me to people as "just above Natalie Portman in the first shot of the end celebration". This was because I was behind her, but taller. Now I can actually say "just BEHIND her", as the 3D will take care of that proximity! Not that being above Natalie is a bad thought ;) I have tickets to the London opening night of the film so will be there enjoying it as a fan, now the memories have faded of actually working on it.

I am now developing a sci-fi TV series called The Chrononaut which includes many sci-fi elements from those such films, including aliens and time travel. Watching these masters of storytelling has had a profound impact on my own way of telling such stories.
SWCP: In episode III of Star Wars, you were the stand in of Anakin in the scenes that were shot in UK. How it was that experience?
