Entrevista SWCP: Barbara Leigh

A atriz e modelo Barbara Leigh celebrizou-se graças à mítica personagem da BD Vampirella nos anos 70. Barbara participou ainda em diversos filmes, anúncios e revistas.  

SWCP: Como surgiu a oportunidade de se tornar a imagem física da Vampirella? 

B.L: A imagem da Vampirella não foi feita a partir da minha imagem, Barbara Leigh. Foi escrito um livro sobre a Vampirella com a imagem que foi transformada para a capa da BD do Jim Warren. O Forrest Ackerman foi quem criou a Vampirella. 

Realmente tenho o livro original mas não está comigo no escritório, pelo que não sou capaz de lhe dizer o ano em que o livro saiu. A Vampirella veio de outro mundo - Draculon com duas Luas, dois Sóis e onde a água corria como sangue. A Hammer Films de Inglaterra comprou os direitos para fazer um filme da Vampirella e fez uma pesquisa mundial que os levou a L.A onde através de entrevistas, eles encontraram-me e contrataram-me para desempenhar o papel da Vampirella. 

Tenho cópias do script original que costumo vender nas convenções… é uma peça histórica. 

SWCP: Quais são as principais diferenças entre trabalhar como atriz e modelo?  

B.L: A diferença entre a atuação e modelo é que na atuação estás sempre em movimento enquanto que como modelo estás preso a uma posição, parecendo que tudo é fácil e tens de sorrir…a atuação dá-te mais liberdade…mas em ambas precisas de muita força e disciplina.  

SWCP: Venceu vários prémios na categoria de melhor comercial do ano. Qual foi o comercial em que lhe deu mais gozo trabalhar?  

B.L: O comercial em que ganhei esse prémio foi para a Harness Racing … foi muito divertido … sentei-me numa cadeira fingindo-me glamorosa, com a câmara apontada ao meu rosto, tinha que relinchar como um cavalo… o que me fez rir… 

SWCP: Quando se apercebeu que queria ser atriz? 

B.L: Apercebi-me pela primeira vez que queria ser atriz quando tinha cerca de 7 ou 8 anos de idade e trepava às árvores querendo chegar ao topo do ramo mais longo e fingir que era a Rainha Cleópatra…Não pensava em me tornar numa atriz mas queria atuar, fi-lo na igreja e em peças da escola … mas não me pergunte nomes porque foi há muito tempo atrás...(risos). 

SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos seus fãs? 

B.L: A mensagem que eu gostaria de enviar aos meus fãs é que amo todos e cada um, sempre estarei com eles, se eles me quiserem nos seus corações, e eles sempre estarão no meu coração. Aprecio todo o vosso amor e tenho a esperança de estarmos juntos por muitos anos. Realmente tenho uma página de fãs que está aberta a todo o mundo no Facebook, contudo, o meu facebook pessoal é só para a minha família, portanto ninguém pode encontrar-me noutra página além da dedicada aos fãs. Tive alguns perseguidores à espreita no passado, estar acessível a todo o mundo pode ser assustador nestes dias e

idade, todo o mundo tem de estar vigilante e atento a tudo e a todos à nossa volta. Somente faça o possível, faça a coisa certa com o amor no seu coração para toda a gente e animais que compartilham o planeta connosco, e a sua vida será mais enriquecida. Não importa como as más coisas são já que algum de nós lembram-se que poderá ser ainda pior…basta olharmos à nossa volta. 

Aprendi quando passei por um divórcio e perdi todas as coisas materiais da vida que cada um luta para as obter e a coisa mais importante que tenho é a minha própria pessoa, e depois fui capaz de viver em qualquer lugar com menos; enquanto sei quem sou é a coisa mais importante para mim. Fui capaz de processar toda a minha pena, tristeza, a perda de coisas materiais e acabei por sentir que eu tinha ganho tudo isso. Toda a gente é bela à sua maneira, e toda a gente pode ser poderosa se abrires os teu coração e vires o grande filme da vida. Todos nós nascemos para sofrer e sentir a felicidade mas aqueles quem amam sem quererem algo em troca,são os verdadeiros vencedores na vida. As recompensas virão depois para nós os

que foram esquecidos na Terra…Deus sabe cada segredo do Universo, falar com ele e compartilhar enquanto somos capazes... a vida através dos tempos difíceis,é um presente para os seres humanos que nunca deverão dar como garantida.

The actress and model Barbara Leigh became famous thanks to the iconic character of BD Vampirella. She also participated in several movies, commercials and magazines.  

SWCP: How did appear the opportunity for making of you the physical image of Vampirella? 

B.L: The image of Vampirella was not made from my image, Barbara Leigh. A book was written about

Vampirella with the image that was transformed onto Jim Warren Comic’s cover’s. Forrest Ackerman created the character Vampirella. I do have the original book but it isn’t with me at the office so not able to give you the year the book came out but I can follow up with that later. Vampirella came from another world Draculon – with 2 moon, 2 suns and where the water ran as blood. Hammer Films of England bought the rights to make a movie of Vampirella and did a world search that landed them in LA and through interviews they met and signed me to play the part of Vampirella. I have a copy of the original script which I so sell at conventions…it is a piece of history. 

SWCP: Which are the principal differences between modeling and acting? 

B.L: The difference between acting and modeling is that acting is moving, modeling is holding a position and making it look easy…smile…acting, one has more freedom…. But both take a lot of discipline and strength. 

SWCP: You won several awards in the category “Best commercial of the year”. What was the commercial that gave you more joy to work on? 

B.L: The commercial that won me Best Commercial of the year was for Harness Racing…it was funny…I sat in a chair looking glamorous as the camera panned in tight on my face I whinnied like a horse…one couldn’t help but laugh… 

SWCP: When did you realize you wanted to be an actress? 

B.L: I first wanted to be an actress when I was around 7/8 years old and climbed every tree I could find worth climbing…I would get to the top lay out on the largest longest branch and pretend I was Queen Cleopatra… I didn’t think of becoming an actress but I wanted to act, I did in church and school plays… but don’t ask me names that was SO long ago….smile. 

SWCP: What message would you like to leave for your fans? 

B.L: The message I would love to give my fans is that I love each and every one, I will always be with them, if they want me in their hearts, and they will always be in my heart. I appreciate all their love and hope we will be together for many years to come. I do have a fan page that is open to everyone on Facebook, however, my facebook is for my family only so no one can find me other then my fan page…. I’ve had a few stalkers in the past, being accessible to everyone can be scary in this day and age, everyone needs to be watchful and mindful of all and everything around us but not to be hardened to life. Just do your best, do the right thing with love in your heart for the people and animals we share the planet with, and your life will be more enriched…. No matter how bad things are for any of us remember it could be so much worse…just look around you.

Living with one’s self is the greatest gift you can have in life; simply because that means you can live with money, without money, with good health, without good health and make it all okay. I learned when I went through a major divorce and lost all the material things in life that one fights to get, that the greatest thing I have is myself, and after that I was able to live anywhere with less as long as I know who I am that is the most important thing to me. I was able to process all my grief, sadness, loss of material things and come out feeling I had won it all…. Everyone is beautiful in their own way, and everyone can be powerful if you open your hearts and see the big picture of life, and not only focus on one’s own life but what we can do make other lives more enriched…sharing… is a true testament to love and feeling powerful…sharing your force and compassion with others will set one free of life’s obstacles, or at least it will help one process what comes to you in a better and more clear way… We are all born to suffer and feel happiness but those who love without getting something back are the true winners in life…. Rewards will come later for us who were missed on earth…God knows every secret in the Universe, talk to him and share yourself while you are able to… Life, though hard at times, is a gift that we humans should never take for granted…
