Entrevistas SWCP: Michael Kingma

O Australiano Michael Kingma é um jogador profissional de Basquetebol que fez uma “perninha de ator” no episódio III de Star Wars, no papel do Wookie Tarfful.

SWCP: Como é que um jogador de basquetebol se viu envolvido num dos mais populares filmes de todos os tempos?

M.K: O filme Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith foi filmado, na sua maior parte, na Austrália e de alguma maneira o pessoal deste filme entrou em contato com o meu agente de basquetebol e pediram-lhe gente alta!! Tive bastante sorte por estar a jogar basquetebol naquela altura e de estar no lugar certo e na altura certa e fui muito feliz ao fazer parte desse filme.

SWCP: Já tinha tido alguma experiência anterior como ator?

M.K: Nenhuma. Eles só precisavam de gente alta!

SWCP: Ao ter interpretado o papel de um Wookie (Tarfful) com certeza que o Chewbacca é um dos seus personagens favoritos…

M.K: O Chewbacca sempre foi o meu personagem favorito, de tempos a tempos vejo o filme e ele tem sido sempre o número um. Portanto, ser um Wookiee foi provavelmente a coisa mais fixe que alguma vez aconteceu na minha vida.

SWCP: No cimo dos seus 209 cm de altura, sente-se um pouco “deslocado” em relação aos objetos com medidas regulares para a maioria das pessoas? Por exemplo: Deve ter mandado fazer uma cama por encomenda?

M.K: Hahaha (Risos) sim de facto!! O mundo não é construído para pessoas como eu!! Para a minha cama, tenho apenas uma cama normal mas as minhas pernas ficam fora dela!! Eventualmente irei tentar arranjar uma para o meu tamanho, mas devido ao basquetebol estou sempre a viajar a cada 6 meses portanto fico com a cama que me dão! Haha! Já estou tão habituado que agora já não me incomoda tanto, mas para a roupa é muito difícil, mas as lojas na Internet ajudam muito!!

SWCP: Sabemos que os seus colegas Axel Dench e David Stiff também participaram no episódio III de Star Wars. Foram eles que o desafiaram a participar neste filme?

M.K: Para ser sincero, foi o meu agente de basquetebol que me chamou e me disse que havia algo nos estúdios da Fox para um papel extra e que eles pagavam 100 dólares, portanto fui lá pelo dinheiro! Ninguém sabia então que era para Star Wars, o maior filme de sempre!!

SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos seus fãs?

M.K: Muito obrigado por toda a alegria e bons momentos que me deram todo durante os últimos anos, desde que fiz o filme que fui a muitas convenções diferentes e vi alguns lugares assombrosos tendo feito grandes amigos, espero um dia ser convidado a visitar o vosso maravilhoso país, conhecer mais gente incrível de Star Wars e continuar esta viagem incrível.

The australian Michael Kingma is a professional basketball player who played a bit part in Star Wars: Episode III as a Wookie named Tarfful.

SWCP: How does a basketball player ends up involved in an episode (Star Wars: Episode III) of one of the most popular movie sagas of all time?

M.K: The “Star Wars Revenge of the Sith” movie was filmed mostly in Australia and somehow the people from Star Wars got in contact with my basketball agent and asked for tall people!! I was lucky enough to be playing basketball at the time and be in the right place at the right time and was very fortunate to get the part.

SWCP: Did you have any previous experiences in acting?

M.K: No other acting experience, they just needed tall people!

SWCP: To interpret a role of a Wookie(Tarfful) Chewbacca must be one of your favorite characters?

M.K: Chewbacca has always been my favourite character, the time I saw the movie he has always been number 1 so to be a Wookiee was the coolest thing that´s probably ever happened in my life.

SWCP: In the top of your 209 cm tall, do you feel a bit "shifted"in relation to objects with standard sizes for most people? For example: You must have to make a bed on demand,no?

M.K: Hahaha! Yes indeed!! The world is not built for people like me!! For my bed I have just a normal bed but my legs are hanging off the end!! I will get a good one eventually but with my basketball I am always travelling around every 6 months so I get the bed I am given haha, but I am so used to it now it doesn't bother me so much, but for clothes and stuff it is very difficult but the internet shops help a lot!!

SWCP: We know that your classmates Axel Dench and David Stiff also participated in Star Wars. Were they who challenge you to participate in this movie?

M.K: To be honest it was just my basketball agent who called me up and told me there was something going on at fox studios for an extra role and to get down there, he said they were paying people $100 to get there and to be an extra so I went for the money! Nobody knew at that time it was for Star Wars the biggest movie empire ever!!

SWCP: What message would you like to leave for your fans?

M.K: Thank you so much for all the joy and good times you have all given me over the last few years, ever since I have done the movie I have been to many different conventions and seen some amazing places and made some great friends, I hope one day to be invited to your wonderful country and meet even more amazing people from star wars and continue this incredible journey.
