SWCP: No seu website menciona várias vezes o Indiana Jones. É um fã deste personagem?

P.G: Sou um grande fã do Indiana Jones. Penso que foi quando assisti aos filmes do Indy que tive o primeiro impulso de ser ator. Passei a maior parte da minha juventude a reordenar os melhores momentos do Indy. Eu gosto do arquétipo de herói relutante, é por isso que os filmes como `Die Hard´ e personagens como o Bilbo Baggins são tão populares. Há algo mais relatável num herói relutante do que e num super-herói.

SWCP: Fale-nos agora da série Stargate Universe.Como descreve na generalidade, esta série?

P.G: Eu descreveria SGU numa palavra … "Inacabado". O que adorei na série foi que era uma história contínua. A televisão serializada tem para mim uma grande apelação, porque cada episódio é uma viagem e questionamo-nos até onde poderemos ir. O facto é que termos sido cancelados tão prematuramente, faz a série sentir-se como uma corda musical não resolvida. Para mim, o Destino ainda anda por aí, movendo-se rapidamente pelo espaço, e possivelmente a sua tripulação nunca despertará do êxtase.

SWCP: O que gosta de fazer nos seus tempos livres?

P.G: Nos meus tempos livres, trabalho na minha novela, como verduras, faço voluntariado em diferentes ações de caridade a cada semana e ensino aos órfãos cegos como cantar em harmonia. Gostaria de dizer que nada disto é verdadeiro mas de facto é, eu gosto de fazer uma sesta. Costumava ler muito antes de começar a utilizar a televisão e o DVD. Tenho uma sala inteira cheia de livros que planeio ler…mas só depois de terminar de ver Sons of Anarchy, Californication, Weeds, Caprica, Carnivale, Damages, Deadwood, Eastbound & Down, Friday Night Lights, Luther, Oz, Rescue Me, Rome, Roots, The Shield, Spartacus, The Tudor …assim como tudo o que está sendo transmitido agora mesmo. Desejaria que alguém interviesse e me tirasse este hábito de ver DVD. Isto não é saudável. Prefiro sair lá para fora...

SWCP: Tem interpretado vários personagens em séries de ficção científica:SGU,Battlestar Galactica,Riese,Eureka…é uma temática em que gosta mais de trabalhar?

P.G: Gosto de trabalhar em ficção científica por duas razões: Primeiro, nunca é ordinário, e em segundo lugar, os fãs. Mas o facto é que a cidade na qual vivo atualmente, Vancouver, é um lugar que está em alta na produção de séries de ficção científica. Não sei bem porquê, mas talvez seja porque ele `Ficheiros Secretos´ colocaram a cidade no mapa das séries de fantasia na TV. Enquanto você for um ator que trabalha e vive em Vancouver há uma possibilidade de 90 % de fazer um episódio de ficção científica.

SWCP: Gostaria de interpretar algum personagem de Star Wars em particular?

P.G: O Han Solo.Esse seria fácil.

SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos seus fãs?

P.G: A ficção científica tem os melhores fãs. Isto não é um sentimento, é um facto. Nenhum outro género fornece convenções mundiais nem tem uma presença tão esmagadora na Internet como a ficção científica. Fui bastante feliz por ser uma parte disso e de ter a oportunidade de me encontrar e agradecer com pessoas de todo o mundo. Tenho tido muita sorte em trabalhar, e a avaliação dos fãs tem sido desde sempre estrondosa. Por tudo isso, obrigado.

  English Version:   The Canadian actor Patrick Gilmore is an assiduous presence in several movies and series: Primeval, Fringe, 2012, Riese, SGU, among others.

SWCP: In your website you mention several times Indiana Jones. Are you a fan of this popular character?

P.G: I am a big Indiana Jones fan. I think it was while watching the Indy films that I first had the urge to be an actor. I spent most of my youth reenacting Indy’s best moments. I like the reluctant-hero archetype, which is why movies like Die Hard & characters like Bilbo Baggins are so popular. There’s something more relatable in a reluctant-hero than in a super-hero.

SWCP: Let´s talk about Stargate Universe. How would you describe the whole series?

P.G: I would describe SGU in one word…”Unfinished.” What I loved about the series was that it was one continuous story. Serialized TV has such an appeal to me because it is a journey unto itself and with every episode we wonder how far down the road we’ll go. The fact that we were cancelled so prematurely makes the series feel like an unresolved musical chord. To me, Destiny is still out there, hurtling through space, and perhaps her crew will never awake from stasis.

SWCP: What do you like to do in your free time?

P.G: In my spare time I hike, work on my novel, eat vegetables, volunteer at a different charity every week and teach blind orphans how to sing in harmony. …I’d love to say any of that is true but the fact is, I love to nap. I used to read a lot before I was introduced to TV on DVD. I have an entire wall of books that I plan on reading…that is, once I get through Sons of Anarchy, Californication, Weeds, Caprica, Carnivale, Damages,

Deadwood, Eastbound & Down, Friday Night Lights, Luther, Oz, Rescue Me, Rome, Roots, The Shield, Spartacus, The Tudors…as well as everything that’s airing right now. I just wish someone would hold an intervention for me and break me of this TV on DVD habit. It’s unhealthy. I’d rather be outside.

SWCP: You have been played many characters in sci-fi series: SGU, Battlestar Galactica, Riese, Eureka...it is a subject in which you like working more?

P.G: I enjoy working in sci-fi for two reasons. First off, it’s never ordinary, and secondly, the fans. But the fact is, the city in which I live right now, Vancouver, is a hot spot for the production of sci-fi shows. I’m not sure why this is; maybe it was X-Files that put the city on the map for fantasy TV. As long as you’re a working actor living in Vancouver there’s a 90% chance you’ll do an episode of sci-fi.

SWCP: Would you like to interpret any character of Star Wars?

P.G: C’mon…Han Solo. That was an easy one.

SWCP: What message would you like to leave for your fans?

P.G: Sci-fi has the best fans. This isn’t a feeling, this is a fact. No other genre provides worldwide conventions nor has the overwhelming internet presence like sci-fi. I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of it and have had the opportunity to meet and thank people from all over the world. I’ve been lucky enough to work and the fan appreciation is at all times humbling. So, thank you.
