`Being Human´assustou-me, porque enquanto eu sei
That's how it went. I said, "Sure. No problem." ... but my inner monologue was more along lines of, "Are you crazy?! I have no idea if I can do that!”... But my wiser self recognized that he's the director/showrunner, and he needs a guy to come in with confidence and competence, so I choked down my panic and attempted as much confidence as I could muster. The Maul role was fantastic for the high concept growth of the character and the thematic nature of the dark side. This was George Lucas cracking it open and laying it bear for all of us to see. The dark side. Entirely unfiltered. Portrayed as madness and insanity. I thought it was quite brilliant, this story about a man who was literally half the man he used to be, crawling through filth and garbage until madness took hold, and because of his intense, mystical connection to the dark side, the garbage and debris around him slowly began to gather about him, cling to him as he crawled, and after 10 years this garbage grew into these awful spider legs. Extensions of the dark side and his own self hatred. That's pretty intense stuff. And it began conversations about the nature of the Dark Side as it pertained to preserving damaged and dying individuals. Anakin on Mustafar. Maul in the pit. It was all the same thing. These Sith what they have with great jealously and without logic or reason. Vader lives a tortured existence in that suit, and one might ask why he doesn't just let himself die. The answer is because for the Sith, even a miserable existence is preferable to NO existence. It's why Vader can't conceive of what Obi Wan means when he says, "If you strike me down, I shall
SWCP: And since we are talking about video games, inevitably, we have to ask you something about Darth Vader´s secret
S.W: The entire point of that character was to tell a story about a young man who was essentially the photo negative of Luke Skywalker. We endeavored to hit the same thematic notes of the Star Wars movies but see it from a slightly more modern and cynical viewpoint. Not because we think that's the way Star Wars should be done, but because it just hadn't been done like that yet. I'll speak about our intentions. Star Wars. It happened in the 70s. This was a time of great cynicism for Americans. And as much as Watergate and Vietnam and various things wore on the public, I don't know that the 70s had such a pervasive and insidious media machine. Oh, I think they certainly had one, but the one we have these days is far more powerful and adept at filling the airwaves with white-noise. Our media machine is entirely obtrusive and distracting and at times quite amoral. So we as citizens have awareness that not everything our country does is correct or moral. We're not happy about this, however, this media machine serves to distract and confuse us. We don't know who to listen to, what's important, what's not. All we have is this sickening feeling inside us that suggests that we are being constantly lied to. Well, that's Starkiller.
Luke Skywalker was from a loving home - an innocent, with dreams, flaws, and ambitions, and he went on his heroes journey. Starkiller is a kid from an abusive single parent home, works for a corrupt government, is fed heaping amounts of propaganda, and does what he's told. ... And it isn't until half way through the story that he really learns that he's been lied to his whole life. The rest of the story is about redemption as this character fights to rediscover his own innocence, shed all the bullshit, and emerge
