Lawrence Noble é um conceituado escultor e ilustrador com mais de 40 anos de carreira, tendo produzido peças memoráveis como a estátua de bronze do fontanário que está localizado na sede da Lucasfilm em Sº Francisco.
SWCP: Como surgiu o seu envolvimento com a Lucasfilm?
L.N: A minha relação com a Lucasfilm começou em 1980 quando fui convidado para produzir um desenho de um poster de 'o Império Contra-ataca ‘que acabou por ser usado dez anos depois como o 10º Cartaz de Aniversário do filme. Para mim, este envolvimento, que conduziu a uma relação tão longa, foi um sonho de uma vida. É difícil pôr em palavras a alegria que senti naquela altura... Ter sido escolhido para projetar um cartaz da Lucasfilm? Foi simplesmente assombroso... Senti-o então e ainda o sinto passados tantos anos depois. Suponho que sucumbi ao feitiço que a Lucasfilm me lançou. Foi excitante. Fiquei de fato surpreendido por ter sido capaz de fazer algo, contudo, trinta anos depois, ainda penso nesses trabalhos de desenho.
SWCP: Fale-nos do seu mais recente livro `A arte de Lawrence Noble´publicado pela Dreams and Visions.
L.N: `A Arte de Lawrence Noble´ é um livro de arte que balanço dos quarenta anos da minha carreira. Ele começa com as minhas primeiras ilustrações e continua até ao presente. Ele documenta a minha viagem e a evolução no campo da escultura pública, contando histórias ao longo do caminho, bem como mostrando muitos ensaios fotográficos dos meus trabalhos em 2D e 3D.Tenho trabalhado em arte há muito tempo e você sabe que nunca tive uma demonstração do meu próprio trabalho. Isto é uma oportunidade de mostrar o meu trabalho, registrando a minha jornada. Assim espero que as pessoas queiram comprar 
um para a sua coleção. Tem sido um passeio emocional ter conseguido reunir tudo isso e a editora Dreams and Visions fez um trabalho notável nesse aspeto e em lançá-lo a público. Acredito que é um projeto de qualidade, e que reflete o melhor que podemos fazer!
SWCP: A estátua em bronze do Yoda que está localizada na sede da Lucasfilm é magnífica. Quanto tempo demorou a fazê-la?
L.N: Muito obrigado! Se bem me lembro, demorou um total de aproximadamente 5 meses. Um pouco daquele tempo foi composto por uma fase de desenho, ligado à escultura em barro e logo depois executado com o processo do fabrico em bronze. Foi fabricado na Fundição de Obras de Arte aqui em Berkeley, Califórnia. Tenho feito as minhas estátuas de bronze à grande escala aqui desde 1987. A escultura do Yoda foi enormemente recompensadora para mim, tal como foi a alegria ao esculpi-la. Antes de esculpir aquela peça, eu tinha estado a trabalhar arduamente durante muito tempo no Monumento dedicado aos Bombeiros da Califórnia. Tive a honra de ter sido escolhido para fazer esse monumento, e adoro os bombeiros, contudo, fiquei esgotado a nível emocional e assim foi bem-vinda a possibilidade de trabalhar num personagem tão amável! Adoro o Yoda. Ele faz-me pensar na vida e no que ela significa... E ele faz-me sorrir.
SWCP: Como surgiu a ideia de em 2008 fazer uma pintura do poster original de Star Wars do seu saudoso amigo e colega Ralph McQuarrie?
L.N: Ralph McQuarrie foi um grande e querido amigo meu e uma inspiração para mim! Fiquei abismado com a sua capacidade única de concetualizar. Tivemos muitas conversas sobre a arte e a Saga de Star Wars, que foram sempre muito agradáveis. 
Quando ele não foi mais capaz de pintar, o seu publicador, Stan Stice, o proprietário da Dreams and Visions, perguntou-me se eu gostaria de pintar o seu desenho original para `Star Wars: Uma Nova Esperança' (O Episódio 4). Naturalmente eu disse que sim. Adorei aquele desenho e tive a honra de me ter sido pedido para fazê-lo. O Ralph trabalhou ao meu lado, dirigindo-me nas cores e imagem que ele tinha em mente aquando do seu projeto original. No fim, o Stan e o Ralph ficaram ambos agradados com a pintura o que certamente me fez feliz! A editora Dreams and Visions é a editora do meu livro, portanto eu diria que as coisas têm corrido bastante bem... A propósito, se você olhar minuciosamente para a assinatura, você verá as iniciais 'RMQ' por cima do meu nome. Isto foi feito em defesa e honra ao meu amigo.
SWCP: Foram recentemente inauguradas pelo próprio George Lucas, duas estátuas em bronze feitas por si, do Mestre Yoda e do Indiana Jones, no Imagination Park em San Anselmo/Califórnia. Como foi essa experiência para si?
L.N: O Imagination Park em San Anselmo, foi uma maravilhosa experiência para mim. O terreno do parque foi doado pelo próprio George Lucas. Tenho testemunhado a gratidão que San Anselmo tem para um tão belo parque na sua rua principal. É um lugar para a comunidade se reunir. San Anselmo é a cidade natal de George Lucas e onde os personagens Yoda e Indiana Jones foram originalmente criados. Sinto-me agradecido por ter a oportunidade de estar implicado com esse parque. Ter passado algum tempo lá com o George foi uma experiência maravilhosa. Ele de fato inaugurou as duas estátuas! Ter testemunhado isso, foi assombroso... Fiquei tão orgulhoso por ter sido convidado e 
mais orgulhoso ainda por a minha esposa, Libby,ter lá estado comigo!
SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos fãs dos seus trabalhos?
L.N: Fui realmente abençoado por ter tido a oportunidade de dedicar a minha vida à arte. É algo que tem enriquecido a minha experiência de vida. Agradeço a todos aqueles fãs que gostam do meu trabalho. Como artista, sinto-me satisfeito quando a mensagem da minha expressão para a qual trabalhei tanto, é aceite. Sinto a sua alegria e sinto orgulho pelo fato de que o meu o trabalho é ressonante com eles. Sinto que se eu tiver alguns fãs, eles merecem certamente tudo o que sou capaz de lhes oferecer através da minha arte. Também tenho a sensação de pertencer a uma família. Agradeço-lhes... E nas palavras do meu autor favorito: 'Que a Força esteja convosco! '.

Lawrence Noble is a renowned artist whose 40 years career as a freelance illustrator and sculptor has produced memorable pieces as the bronze Yoda fountain statue.
SWCP: How it began your relationship with Lucasfilm?
L.N: My relationship with Lucasfilm began in 1980 when I was invited to produce a one-sheet poster design to advertise "The Empire Strikes Back". It ended up being used ten years later as the 10th Anniversary Poster for the film. To me, this involvement, which ushered in such a long relationship, was a dream of a lifetime. It is hard to put into words the joy that I felt at the time...to have been chosen to design a poster for Lucasfilm? It was simply Amazing... I felt it then and still feel it so many years later. I suppose I succumbed to the spell which Lucasfilm cast. Oh my, was I excited. I am actually surprised that I was able to do anything; however, even thirty years later, I still think the design works.
SWCP: Tell us about your recent book called `The art of Lawrence Noble ´published by Dreams and Visions.
L.N: The Art of Lawrence Noble is an art book that spans my forty year career. It begins with my early illustrations and continues through to the present. It documents my journey and evolution into the field of public sculpture, telling stories along the way as well as showcasing many photographic essays of my two dimensional and three dimensional works. I have been working at art for a very long time and you know, I have never had a show of my own. This is an opportunity to put my work out there, in order, recording my journey. I so hope that people will want to buy one for their collection. It has been an emotional 
ride to put it together and Dreams and Visions Press has done a remarkable job in getting it done and out in front of the public. I believe it is a quality project, and reflects the best we could do!
SWCP: The bronze Yoda fountain statue at Lucasfilm headquarters is magnificent. How much time did you take building it?
L.N: Thank You! As I recall, it took a total of about 5 months. Some of that time consisted of a design phase, coupled with the sculpture in clay and then followed through with the bronze casting process. It was cast at Artworks Foundry here in Berkeley, California. I have been casting my large scale bronzes here since about 1987. The sculpture of Yoda was hugely rewarding for me as it was such a joy to sculpt. Prior to sculpting that piece, I had been working very long and very hard on the California Firefighters' Memorial. I was honored to have been chosen to do the memorial, and I love firefighters, however, I was exhausted from the emotional involvement and so welcomed the chance to work on such an endearing character! I love Yoda. He makes me think about life and what it all means... and he makes me smile.
SWCP: How the idea appeared to picked up a paint brush of your late friend and colleague Ralph McQuarrie´s original movie poster concept for Star Wars?
4). Of course I said yes. I loved that design and was honored to have been asked to do it. Ralph worked alongside me, directing me in the colors and imagery he had in mind when he had originally designed the piece. In the end, Stan and Ralph were both pleased with the painting and that certainly made me happy! Dreams and Visions Press is the publisher behind my book, so I would say that things have worked out pretty well... By the way, if you look closely at the signature you will see the initials "RMQ" above my name. This was done in deference and in honor to my friend.
SWCP: Were recently unveils by George Lucas, two bronze statues of Yoda and Indiana Jones created by you at new Imagination Park in San Anselmo/California. How it was this experience for you?
L.N: Imagination Park in San Anselmo has been a wonderful experience for me. The park land itself was donated by George Lucas. I have witnessed the gratitude that San Anselmo has for such a beautiful park on their main street. It is a place for the community to gather. San Anselmo is George Lucas's hometown and where the characters Yoda and Indiana Jones were originally created. I am grateful for the opportunity to be involved with Imagination Park. To have spent some time there with George was a marvelous experience. He actually unveiled the two statues himself! Witnessing that was amazing... I was so proud to be asked to be there, and prouder still that my wife, Libby, was there to witness it with me!
SWCP: Would you like to leave a message for the fans of your works?
L.N: I have been truly blessed to have had the opportunity to devote my life to art. It is something that has enriched my life experience. I have been grateful for those fans that have chosen to like my work and feel very much in their debt. As an artist, I feel satisfied when the message I have worked so hard to express is accepted. I feel their joy and take pride in the fact that my work resonates with them. I feel that if I have any fans, they certainly deserve everything that I am capable of giving to them through my art. I also have the sense of belonging to a family. I thank you all...and in the words of my favorite author: "May the Force be with you!"
