Dallas Barnett é um ator e ator-vocal americano que participou no filme de Peter Jackson `O Hobbit:A desolação de Smaug´no papel do Bill Ferny Sr.

SWCP: Fale-nos do seu trabalho em `O Hobbit´.

D.B: Aparentemente a minha fita da audição sobreviveu e chegou à área de trabalho da Fran Walsh. Recebi uma ligação pela manhã do meu agente a perguntar-me se eu estava disponível, eles tinham escrito uma parte para mim durante as Pick-ups " (termo para refilmagens ou cenas adicionais que não era o original das rodagens do filme) 

Como podia não estar disponível? Eu adorei o trabalho de Tolkien desde adolescente e da original trilogia do Senhor dos anéis que foi alucinante, então envolver-me em qualquer coisa relacionada com isso foi uma grande honra.

Conheci a Phillipa Boyens e a Fran Walsh após duas horas de ter chegado até aos estúdios Stone Street .Em seguida, eles deram-me um robe e maquilharam-me e logo depois, apareceu o Sir Peter... Sendo eu um grande fã dele, tentei manter a minha compostura, mas acho que me engasguei com a minha voz algumas vezes. Lembro-me da Sra. Walsh comentar que eu lhe fazia lembrar um javali e pediu-me o seguinte: "importa-se que raspemos as suas sobrancelhas?" Levei um 3/10 de segundo a responder.

 O Sir Peter é uma pessoa maravilhosa para com quem trabalhar. Ele é gracioso, engraçado e um bom tipo,genuíno.Ter trabalhado com o senhor Ian e com o Sir Peter foi uma coisa que acho que nunca vou esquecer, foi um dos momentos altos da minha vida. (a menos que volte a trabalhar com eles novamente, ha!ha!).

SWCP: Como é que um ator americano se mudou para trabalhar na Nova Zelândia? Geralmente acontece precisamente o contrário… 

D.B: Nem todos os que vagueiam estão perdidos;

Só sou ator há volta de 5 anos. Antes dessa carreira, eu tinha sido um DJ numa discoteca e na rádio no sudoeste de Ohio, nos Estados Unidos por tempo demasiado do que eu gostaria de lembrar e um ator de voz aqui na Nova Zelândia (Power Rangers) durante uma década antes de ser solicitado como estrela convidada em alguns Dramas de TV locais. Acho que tenho um olhar bastante original e disseram-me que ‘Uma `presença' seria agradável, alguém viu isso e eu fui capaz de a utilizar. 

SWCP: Nos finais de 2010,trabalhou para a dupla James Cameron/Andrew Adamson no espetáculo em 3D `A aventura do circo Soleil´.Como foi essa experiência?

D.B: Não cheguei a conhecer o Sr. Cameron nos cenários para o Cirque Soleil, mas espero ter a chance de fazer o casting para o novo filme ` Avatar´... Tenho uma lista de realizadores com quem quero trabalhar; O Robert Rodriguez e o Tarantino estão no topo dessa lista...foi incrível trabalhar para o Andrew Adamson. Muito "Terra-a terra" e humilde para um tipo na sua posição. Eu ainda mantenho contato com a Erica Linz e alguns outros membros do elenco através dos meios de comunicação sociais e, por vezes, ao longo de uma bebidaNão cheguei a conhecer o Sr. Cameron nos cenários para o Cirque Soleil, mas espero ter a chance de fazer o casting para o novo filme ` Avatar´... SWCP: Participou num episódio da série Spartacus:A vingança. Que papel interpretou?  

D.B: O nome do meu personagem era um "tipo desprezível"... Um bêbado Romano (escravo, antigo gladiador?) com uma grande boca nos covis... Ele foi muito divertido para se interpretar.

SWCP: Sabemos que é fã de Star Wars.Tem algum personagem favorito? 

D.B: Oh, meu Deus... Vi Star Wars pela primeira vez num cinema drive-in com os meus pais e fiquei logo viciado no filme. Os efeitos especiais, a música, a história... épico...

Acho que é realmente uma “Moeda ao ar” entre o Han Solo e o Darth Vader como meus favoritos. O Han, acho que é um tipo que só faz o que tem de fazer para sobreviver e tem a capacidade de rir diante da adversidade... O Vader só é ameaçador. A sua presença parecia sugar a luz fora da sala quando ele estava na tela. Verdadeiro poder! 

SWCP: Que mensagem quer enviar aos seus fãs?

D.B: Trabalhem arduamente para transformarem os vossos sonhos em realidade, sejam humildes e graciosos, nunca deixem ninguém dizer que os vossos sonhos são tolos ou irrealistas, lembrem-se sempre de onde vieram e de quem vos ajudou a chegar onde estão... O resto, apenas acontece.

Dallas Barnett is a New Zealand based American character and voice actor who participated in Peter Jackson´s movie The Hobbit: The desolation of Smaug in the role of Bill Ferny Sr.

SWCP: Tell us about your work on The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

D.B: Being a part of this was a total surprise to me.... I originally auditioned for the role of Azog, the Defiler (Pale Orc) back during the pre-production stage of the first Hobbit film, and when I didn’t get a callback for it, I had pretty much written off being a part of this because all 3 films were being shot at the same time. Apparently my audition tape survived and made it to Fran Walsh's desktop. I got a call from my agent one morning and I was told that if I was available, they had written a part for me during 'Pick-ups” (film industry term for reshoots or additional footage that wasn’t in the original shoot). How 

 could I NOT be available?? I've loved Tolkien's work since I was a teenager, and Sir Peter's original Lord of the Rings trilogy was mind-blowing, so being involved anything related to this was a huge honor.  I met Phillipa Boyens and Fran Walsh within a couple hours of getting to Stone Street Studios when they were fitting me for wardrobe and makeup and soon after, Sir Peter himself ... major fanboy moment and I hope I kept my composure, but im pretty sure I choked on my voice a few times. I recall Ms. Walsh commenting that I resembled a 'wild boar’, and asking:”would you mind if we shaved your eyebrows?” it took me like 3/10th of a second to answer; Sir Peter is amazing to work for. He is gracious, funny and a genuine good dude. Working with Sir Ian and Sir Peter was something I don’t think I will ever forget, or top in my lifetime. (Unless I’m asked to work with them again, ha!ha!) 

SWCP: How does an American actor moved to work in New Zealand? It usually happens the opposite...

D.B: Not all who wander are lost; I have only been an actor for about 5 years. Prior to this career, I had been a nightclub and radio DJ in Southwest Ohio in the US for longer than I care to remember, and a voice actor here in NZ (Power Rangers) for a decade before getting asked to guest star in a few local TV Dramas. I guess I have a rather unique look and I’ve been told, a 'presence' onscreen that thankfully, someone saw and was able to utilize. 

SWCP: In late 2010, you worked for James Cameron/Andrew Adamson in 3D Cirque du Soleil Adventure. How it was this experience?

D.B: I never actually got to meet Mr. Cameron on set for Cirque, but I’m hoping to get the chance to do so once Avatar begins casting ... I have a bucket list of directors I want to work with and he, Robert Rodriguez, and Tarantino are right at the top of that list ... Andrew Adamson was awesome to work with. Very down to earth and humble for a guy in his position. I still keep in touch with Erica Linz and a few other cast members via social media and sometimes over an adult beverage at the local cafe or pub.

SWCP: You participated in an episode of Spartacus: Vengeance series. What role did you play?

D.B: My character's name was “Sleazy Guy” a drunken Roman (slave, former gladiator??) with a big mouth in The Pits … he was a lot of fun to play with.

SWCP: We know that you are a Star Wars fan. Do you have any favorite character? 

D.B: Oh, gosh… I first saw Star Wars at the drive-in theater with my parents and was hooked straight away. The special effects, the music, the story… epic.

I think it’s really a tossup between Han Solo and Darth Vader as to my favorites. Han, I think, is a guy just doing what he has to do to survive and has the ability to laugh in the face of adversity. Vader is just menacing. His presence just seemed to suck the light out of the room when he was on screen. True power.

SWCP: What message would you like to send for your fans?

D.B: Work hard to drag your dreams into reality, be humble and gracious once you do, never let anyone tell you that your dreams are silly or unrealistic, always remember where you came from and who helped you get to where you are... the rest just happens please feel free to follow me on social media: @Dallasbarnett3 on Twitter, with links to my Facebook page and Youtube channel on my profile.
