Entrevistas SWCP: Jed Brophy

O ator Neozelandês Jed Brophy,tem participado em diversos filmes dirigidos por Peter Jackson dos quais destacamos os personagens Nori (The Hobbit),Black Rider e Sharku Snaga (LOTR).

SWCP: Fale-nos um pouco acerca dos personagens que interpretou em `The Hobbit´ e `LOTR´. 

J.B: Bem, eu tive seis papéis nos três filmes de LOTR e eles foram filmados durante mais de quatro anos. Eu também tive outra função a tempo inteiro que era ser um dos vinte cavaleiros do departamento de cavalos, cujo trabalho era treinar, cuidar e montar os 82 cavalos incluindo cinco garanhões. Isso significou que eu era capaz de ser um dos cavaleiros negros e um dos numerosos cavaleiros Rohan. Então, foi um grande trabalho e um dos mais difíceis de topo em termos de como foi feito no terreno. O Hobbit por contraste, foi apenas o glorioso papel do Nori. Havia tanto que me era familiar: O mesmo realizador, escritores e a mesma equipa, mas uma história muito mais contida. O Nori é um malandro e um ladrão e também um pouco solitário já que está fora de contacto com a sua família há muito tempo. Esta viagem é uma oportunidade para ele pegar algum ouro mas também para conhecer os seus irmãos, especialmente o Ori. Foi e é um papel fantástico e tivemos muita diversão durante as filmagens. Foi uma verdadeira alegria fazer parte de um formidável grupo de atores. 

SWCP: Sabemos que também tem dotes musicais. Toca nalguma banda?

J.B: Sim, toco em duas bandas. Uma delas é uma banda de cinco elementos chamada "The Last Resort "e a outra é composta por três membros da banda que citei anteriormente a que nós chamamos "The Chuck Yeager Experience". Já gravámos no passado, mas principalmente tocamos localmente por puro divertimento. No entanto, como estreia mundial aqui em Wellington, nós tocámos para 700 convidados especiais no dia antes da grande noite. Inicialmente eu era o guitarrista da banda, mas como o nosso baterista mudou-se para o Brasil, tornei-me no baterista. Agora ele está de volta... E vamos ver o que acontece futuramente. 

SWCP: Juntou-se recentemente ao elenco da série `The Minister of chance’. Como foi essa experiência?

J.B: A série-áudio `The Minister of Chance´foi um encontro casual com o realizador. Ele queria a minha ajuda para contactar com alguns amigos na Weta e eu jocosamente perguntei-lhe se havia lugar para um ator Kiwi (alcunha dada aos Neozelandeses) como eu, participar em algumas peças da sua série. Ele achou que sim, e então escreveu a parte para mim. Quando estávamos em Londres para estreia real de `Hobbit´ eu gravei a minha parte. Agora deverá ser transformada numa longa-metragem... E eu também estarei lá. Às vezes vale a pena ser um pouco atrevido!

SWCP: Tendo trabalhado em diversos filmes com o realizador Peter Jackson, que opinião tem acerca dele? 

J.B: O Peter é de longe o meu mais consistente empregador. Ele é o realizador que eu mais admiro. Não somente isso, mas ele é realmente um bom homem com uma família bem orientada e tem um enorme respeito e empatia pelos outros. Nos estúdios e cenários, ele dá aos atores a oportunidade de sugerirem ideias e se ele gostar delas, então coloca-as no filme. Mas ele é o realizador e, por conseguinte, o chefe. O que mais admiro nele é o seu incansável esforço para ultrapassar os limites do que é possível no filme. Para mim, ele é um verdadeiro génio, mas também uma das minhas pessoas favoritas no planeta. Eu já o disse antes e vou repetir, fico feliz em fazer qualquer coisa no filme ou caso contrário para o Peter e para a Fran.

SWCP: É difícil fazer o papel de um anão, já que você tem uma estatura normal? 

J.B: Sim, foi difícil às vezes ter que olhar sempre para mais para o colega mais alto, mas o Peter sempre nos relembrava que os Anões pensam que são normais em estatura e o resto são gigantes. Tanta coisa foi feita pelos figurinos e os trajes gordos que usávamos e porque estávamos todos mais ou menos iguais, não foi realmente um problema. Foi uma longa filmagem e até o final dela... Estávamos tão à vontade com eles (os trajes). Vou sentir a falta da maquilhagem e do traje. No final, tudo isso já era normal para nós. 

SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos seus fãs?

J.B: Para todos os meus fãs, muito obrigado por apreciarem o trabalho que temos feito. É uma coisa assustadora retratar personagens de um livro tão bem amado. Vocês têm sido tão apoiantes e eu tenho que dizer que a base de fãs é fantástica na sua emoção e compromisso. Alguns dos Cosplayers que vi são extraordinários. Bem-feitos por todos vocês e obtenham os tecidos prontos para o último filme... É emocionante... E triste... Para todos nós. Para mim vai ser o fim de sete anos da Terra média...Sinto-me despojado por dizer adeus. Mas tem de ser assim.

The New-Zealand actor Jed Brophy, participated in several Peter Jackson´s movies such as: The Hobbit (Nori) and LOTR (Black Rider, Snaga Sharku), among others.

SWCP: Please, tell us a bit more about your roles in `The Hobbit ‘and LOTR films. 

J.B: Well, I had six Roles in the three LOTR films and they were filmed over four years. I also had the full time Job of being one of twenty Horse department Riders whose Job it was to Train and look after and Ride 82 horses including 5 stallions . This meant I was able to be one of the Black Riders and Numerous Rohan as well. So it was A great Job and one which will be hard to Top in terms of the Ground Breaking aspects of how it was done The Hobbit By contrast was The one Glorious Role Of Nori. There was so much which was familiar, same director and writers, same crew, but a much more contained story. Nori is a trickster and a Thief and also a bit of a Loner as he has been out of touch with his family for a long time. This journey is a chance for him to get some gold but also to get to know His Brothers especially Ori. It was and is a fantastic Role and we had a lot of fun shooting. It was a real Joy to be on set with such a great Bunch of Actors. 

SWCP: We know that you have also musical skills. Have you any band?

J.B: Yes I play in two Bands actually. One Band is a five piece band called The Last Resort and the other is three of the same members and we call ourselves The Chuck Yeager experience. We have recorded in the past but mainly we just play locally for the fun of it. However for the World Premier here in Wellington we played for 700 special Guests the night Before the Big day.

I was first in the band as the Lead Guitarist but our Drummer moved to Brazil and so I became the Drummer. Now he is backing…..and we shall see what happens next. 

SWCP: You joined recently to the cast of `The minister of chance´series.How this experience has been passing?

J.B: The Minister of Chance Audio series was a chance encounter with the Director. He wanted my help to get in touch with some folk at Weta and I jokingly asked if I can help you Is there any parts in your Series for a Kiwi actor. The Director/ writer thought there could be and so wrote the part for me. When we were in London for the Royal Premier of the Hobbit I recorded my bits. Now it is to be a feature film and I will be in that too… Sometimes it pays to be a bit Cheeky! 

SWCP: You´ve been working in several Peter Jackson´s films. What opinion do you have about him?

J.B: Peter is by far my most consistent Employee. He is the Director I most look up to. Not only that but he is a really good man. Very family orientated and has a huge amount of respect and empathy for others. On set he gives Actors the Opportunity to come up with Ideas and if he likes them then they are in the film. But he is the director and therefore the Boss. What I most admire is his tireless effort to push the boundaries of what is possible on film. To me he is a true Genius, but also one of my favorite people on the Planet. I have said before and will say it again, I am happy to do anything on film or otherwise for Peter and Fran. 

SWCP: Is it difficult for you to play the dwarf´s role, since you have a normal stature? 

J.B: Yes it was difficult at times having to always look up at taller folk, But Peter always kept reminding us the Dwarves thinks they are normal in Stature and the rest are Giants. So much was done by the costumes and the Fat suits we wore, and because we were all roughly the same it wasn’t really an issue. It was a long shoot and by the end of it we were so comfortable with how we played them. I will miss the makeup and the costume. It was normal for us by the end.

SWCP: Would you like to send a message for your fans?

J.B: For all my fans out there thank you so much for enjoying the work we have done. It is a scary thing portraying Characters from such a well loved Book. You have all been so supportive and I have to say the Fan base is amazing in its excitement and commitment. Some of the Cosplaying I have seen is extraordinary. Well done to you all and get the tissues ready for the last film….it is exciting …and sad…..for all of us. For me it will be the end of seven years of Middle Earth…I feel bereft to be saying goodbye. But that is that.
