Entrevistas SWCP: Christopher Patrick Nolan

Chistopher Patrick Nolan,é um ator britânico qie tem participado em produçções teatrais,filmes e séries de Televisão.Em Star Wars; Rogue One,Nolan interpretou o papel de um guarda consular rebelde que foi confrontado pelo Darth Vader a bordo da Tantive IV.

SWCP: Em Rogue One,interpretou o papel do Toshma Jefkin,um guarda consular dos rebeldes.Fale-nos um pouco sobre o seu papel.

C.P.N: Sim, Toshma era o 2º oficial do Tantive IV. Ele era a guarda de Alderaanian que protegia a princesa Leia na sua missão Consular. Toshma foi o guarda que está tentando abrir a porta quando o Vader estava a abater os seus camaradas no corredor. Ele conseguiu escapar com os planos dos dados da Estrela da Morte e  "LAUNCH!" a fuga da nave. O seu nome vem do escritor Matt Forbeck, que escreveu Rogue One, que ele e que em jeito de homenagem deu o apelido do seu grande amigo Jeff Macintosh que faleceu vítima de cancro, ao personagem.

SWCP: Mesmo sabendo que é apenas um personagem de um filme,deve ser intimidante confrontar-se com o Darth Vader! O que sentiu quando o viu na sua presença pela primeira vez?

C.P.N:  Foi uma experiência incrível de filmar. Tive ensaios de movimentos e com duplos, mas quando estávamos nesse corredor e o Vader vinha na minha direção, foi incrível. O realizador, Gareth Edwards, foi brilhante e ele explicou o ajuste e o tipo de sensação de desespero que ele queria alcançar.Referi-me como os nadadores nos filmes do "Tubarão" reagiram à vista do tubarão e ele concordou que ele queria alcançar uma reação similar. Gareth, também gosta de deixar apenas a câmera a rolar e permitindo a improvisação, que foi brilhante. Acho que isso ajudou a conseguir as filmagens de guerra quase como uma montagem documental, muito real para essa cena final.

SWCP: Tem trabalhado em diversas produções teatrais na Broadway e London West End.Gosta mais de atuar em palco ou atrás das câmaras?

C.P.N:  Eu gosto de ambos.Trabalhei durante 20 anos no palco, então de momento,estou a gostar de trabalhar mais em frente ás câmaras.Gosto da imediata reação da plateia no palco, mas gosto também muito da ação na tela. A câmara pode realmente entrar em pensamentos do personagem e sentimentos de alguma forma que num teatro não acontece.

SWCP: Já era fã de Star Wars antes de participar no filme?

C.P.N: Sim, particularmente quando eu era criança.Cresci com a trilogia original. E tive a sorte suficiente para ter o Dave Prowse, que interpretou o Vader nesses filmes, vivendo aqui perto de onde eu cresci.Lembro-me de lhe bater á porta e ele muito gentilmente me trouxe até á sua sala e deu-me um autógrafo. Então foi realmente surreal conhecer esse personagem 30 anos mais tarde!

SWCP: Tem algum personagem favoriito de universo Star Wars?

C.P.N: Há  tantos personagens brilhantes por aí. Obviamente o Vader, mas também gosto muito do  CP30 e R2. Eu realmente gostei do que fizeram com o K-2S0 em Rogue One. Acho que tenho uma fascinação por dróides! Mas tenho de confessar que adoro o meu próprio personagem. Foi um privilégio participar, de uma forma muito pequena, na história de Star Wars. Estarei eternamente grato ao Toshma por isso!

SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos fãs de Star Wars?

C.P.N: Mesmo quando as coisas parecem horríveis, quando os tempos são difíceis, quando o mundo parece estar contra você... Há sempre esperança!

Christopher Patrick Nolan, is a British actor who participated in theatral productions, movies and television series.In Star Wars:Rogue One, Nolan played the role of a consular rebel guard who was confronted by Darth Vader aboard the Tantive IV. 

SWCP:  In Rogue One,you played  the role of Toshma Jefkin, a consular rebel guard.Tell us a little more about your role. 

C.P.N: Yes, Toshma was 2nd Officer of the Tantive IV. He was the Alderaanian guard protecting Princess Leia on her Consular mission. Toshma was the guard trying to unlock the door as Vader slaughtered his comrades in the corridor. He managed to escape with the Death Star Data Plans and "LAUNCH!" the ships escape. His name comes from writer Matt Forbeck, who wrote the Rogue One novel, who he named after his good friend Jeff Macintosh who died of cancer. 

SWCP: Even though it's just a character in a movie, it must be intimidating face Darth Vader. What did you feel when you saw him in your presence for the first time? 

C.P.N:  It was an amazing experience to film. I had had movement and stunt rehearsals but once we were in that corridor and Vader was there coming towards me, it was pretty incredible. The director, Gareth Edwards, was brilliant and he explained the setting and the type of feeling of desperation he wanted to achieve. I referred to how the swimmers in the 'Jaws' movies reacted to the sight of the shark and he agreed that he wanted to achieve a similar reaction. Gareth also liked to just let the camera roll and allow me to improvise, which was brilliant. I think this helped get the very real almost documentary war footage for that final scene.

SWCP: You have worked in several stage productions on Broadway and the London West End. Do you like to perform more on stage or behind the camera? 

C.P.N: I like both. I have worked for 20 years on stage so at the moment I am enjoying doing more work in front of camera.  I like the immediate reaction from the audience on stage but I also really enjoy the craft of screen acting. The camera can really get into the character's thoughts and feelings in a way theatre can't.

SWCP: Were you a Star Wars fan before taking part in the movie?

C.P.N: Yes, particularly when I was a child. I grew up with the original trilogy. And I was lucky enough to have Dave Prowse, who played Vader in those movies, living just down the road from where I grew up. I remember knocking on his door and he very kindly brought me into his living room and gave me an autograph. So it was really surreal to meet that character again 30 years later!

SWCP: Do you have any favoriite character from the Star Wars universe?

C.P.N:  There are so so many brilliant characters out there. Obviously Vader but I love CP30 and R2. I really liked what they did with K-2S0 in Rogue One too. I guess I have a Droid fascination! But I have to say, I do love my own character. It was such a privilege to, in a very small way, be part of the Star Wars story. I will forever be thankful to Toshma for that!

SWCP: What message would you like to send for Star Wars fans?

C.P.N: Even when things look awful, when times are hard, when the world seems against you...there is always HOPE!
