Entrevistas SWCP: Brian Cameron

Brian Cameron escreve para vários sites de Star Wars desde 1998,o seu trabalho mais proeminente são artigos para os websites TheForce.net e JediNet.com antes de se juntar á JediNews.co.uk.Jedi News foi sua casa como editor de literatura desde abril de 2013 a julho de 2017.Ele foi o apresentador do podcast de literatura de Star Wars, Take Cover para o Jedi News Network com Mark Newbold, e Matt Booker.  Dois amigos muito próximos dos quais ele está animado por se juntarem novamente no Fantha Tracks. Brian é um colecionador obsessivo de livros,bd e revistas de Star Wars. Com uma coleção que se estende até as dezenas de milhares.

SWCP: Quando e como te tornaste-te fã de Star Wars?

B.C: Sou fã de Star Wars desde que me lembro.Uma das minhas primeiras lembranças,foi de ter sido presenteado com um Snow Speeder e um Transporte de Tropas Rebeldes pelo Natal.Fiquei encantado,mas o meu irmão abriu os presentes e ficou com a Millenium Falcon.Fiquei tão chateado!O Transporte de Tropas Rebeldes contra a Millenium Falcon.Sem contestação.As lágrimas fluíam.Voltei a Star Wars em grande estilo no início dos anos 90 com o lançamento das B.D e romances do universo-expandido de Star Wars.Desde então coleciono B.D e livros de todo o mundo, e agora tenho um espaço em casa dedicado à minha coleção.

SWCP: Tens algum personagem favorito? 

B.C: Tenho um problema profundo com os dróides em Star Wars.Muitas vezes eles simplesmente não servem para nenhum propósito, mas tomam tanto tempo na tela.Como resultado, sempre tive um fraco pelo Wuher.Não fiquei feliz quando vi o que fizeram com o seu bar em The Mandalorian.Como fã da literatura de Star Wars, também adoro o personagem Carnor Jax da série de b.d Crimson Empire, e o Soontir Fel de X-Wing Rogue Squadron.Acho que ambos são brilhantemente retratados como personagens"malvados", e tão únicos na sua apresentação.

SWCP: És um dos editores-senior do Bantha Tracks,um website que se dedica a notícias diárias sobre Star Wars.Como surgiu a ideia de criar este website?

B.C: Já tinha trabalhado com o Mark Newbold e Matt Booker na Jedi News, e todos nós tivemos a vontade de tentar algo novo e construir a nossa própria plataforma.Todos nós gostávamos de criar conteúdos de Star Wars e reportar as notícias diariamente, e por isso o conceito do site foi uma escolha fácil.O nome é um jogo de palavras baseado em suscitar o boletim original da Lucasfilm,Bantha Tracks, e nós mudamos para refletir o nosso foco em reportar as notícias para os fãs, por isso ficou Fantha Tracks.Tivemos sorte de ter tido uma incrível variedade de pessoas 

talentosas escrevendo e criando para o site desde que o lançamos e continuamos a gostar de trabalhar nele todos os dias.Tornou-se central na nossa vida diária.Não há um único dia em que o Matt, Mark e eu não estamos a discutir o que está a acontecer com a Fantha Tracks.

SWCP: Entre milhares de posts que já publicaram,há alguma notícia que te tenha marcado em especial?

Alguns membros da equipa foram numa aventura para o local de filmagem do planeta Hoth.Hospedamo-nos no icónico hotel e levamos cães Huskie para a Han Solo Rock onde eles filmaram.Naturalmente que nos vestimos com roupas de Tauntaun, e levamos os nossos bonecos de ação de ESB conosco.Não era o nosso conteúdo diário de notícias, mas foi tão divertido que é uma viagem que eu recomendaria a qualquer um.

SWCP: Tens participado em várias convenções,estreias de filmes,etc,tendo já conhecido pessoalmente alguns atores dos filmes da saga.Recordas-te de alguma situação engraçada ou fora do vulgar que tenha ocorrido com alguma dessas estrelas?

B.C: Lembro-me com carinho de assistir à exibição do filme Solo para os Media.Fiquei encantado com aquele filme, achei que foi excelente.Após a exibição á imprensa, viajamos até aos Estúdios Pinewood onde o filme foi rodado e vimos o filme novamente à meia-noite numa pequena sala de exibição para 30 pessoas com alguns dos talentos que fizeram o filme.Foi uma experiência incrível e única que você simplesmente não pode exprimir em palavras.Foi surreal ver um filme tão maravilhoso, no mesmo lugar em que foi feito num ambiente tão íntimo com amigos e talentos.

SWCP: Nesta fase tão conturbada á escala mundial por causa da pandemia do vírus covid 19,que mensagem gostarias de enviar aos fãs de Star Wars? 

B.C: São tempos estranhos com certeza.Continua difícil de compreender.Eu sempre tento visitar a Celebration quando isso acontece, pois nada melhor do que estar com os fãs.É provável que essa oportunidade seja perdida este ano.Então, como fandom, temos que encontrar novas maneiras de nos unir e desfrutar da franquia juntos.A equipa da Fantha Tracks tem-se reunido semanalmente no Zoom,por exemplo.A comunidade de Star Wars é especial e mal posso esperar para ver que conteúdo único temos durante estes tempos, à medida que as pessoas deixam a sua criatividade borbulhar.A Minha mensagem para todos é para ficarem em segurança,então espero que todos possamos nos reunir no futuro na Celebration ou noutras convenções e mais uma vez compartilhar essa alegria de assistir a novos conteúdos de Star Wars juntos nos cinemas.A curto prazo, todos podemos assistir juntos no Disney+!!!

Brian Cameron has written for quite a number of Star Wars sites since 1998, his most prominent work being articles for TheForce.net and JediNet.com before joining JediNews.co.uk.  Jedi News was his home as their Literature Editor from April 2013 to July 2017.
He was the the host of the Star Wars literature podcast, Take Cover for the Jedi News Network with Mark Newbold, and Matt Booker.  Two very close friends he is excited to team up with again for Fantha Tracks. Brian is an obsessive collector of Star Wars books, comics, and magazines. With a collection extending into the tens of thousands. 

SWCP: When and how did you become a Star Wars fan?
B.C: I have been a Star Wars fan for as long as I can remember.  One of my earliest memories is getting a Snow Speeder and Rebel Troop Transporter for Christmas.  I was delighted, but then my brother opened his presents and he got the Falcon.  I was so upset.  The Rebel Troop Transporter vs the Falcon.  No contest.  Tears did flow. I got back into Star Wars in a big way in the early 1990s with the release of the Star Wars comics and novels expanding the universe.  Since then I have collected comics and books from around the world, and now have a room in my house dedicated to my collection.

SWCP: Do you have any favorite characters? 

B.C: I have this deep problem with droids in Star Wars.  Far too often they just serve no purpose, but take up so much screen time.  As a result I have always had a soft spot for Wuher.  I was not happy when I saw what they did to his bar in the Mandalorian, that is for sure. As a fan of Star Wars literature, I also love the character Carnor Jax from the Crimson Empire comic series, and Soontir Fel from X-Wing Rogue Squadron.I think they are both brilliantly portrayed "evil" characters, and so unique in their presentation.

SWCP: You are one of the senior editors of Bantha Tracks, a website dedicated to daily news about Star Wars.How did come up with the idea of creating this website? 

B.C: I had worked with Mark Newbold and Matt Booker previously at Jedi News, and we all had the urge to try something new and build our own platform.  We all had a love for creating Star Wars content and reporting the news on a daily basis, and so the concept of the site was an easy choice.  The name is a play on words based around the original Lucasfilm newsletter Bantha Tracks, and we changed it up to reflect our focus on reporting the news for fans, so it became Fantha Tracks.  We have been lucky to have had an amazing array of talented people write and create for the site since we launched, and we still enjoy working on it each and every day.  It has become central to our daily life.  There is not a single day goes by where Matt, Mark and I are not discussing what's happening with Fantha Tracks.


SWCP:  Among thousands of posts you have already published, is there any news that has marked you in particular? 

B.C: Since we launched on 31st October 2017 to now we have published 13,500 news articles.  It is hard to pick one, but for me the combination of having a fun experience, laughing whilst making content and being with friends is all summed up in our visit to Finse, Norway:

A few of the team went on an adventure to the shooting location for the planet Hoth.  Staying in the iconic hotel, and taking Huskie dogs out to Han Solo Rock where they filmed.  Naturally we dressed up in Tauntaun outfits, and took our TESB action figures with us.  It wasn't our usual daily news content, but it was so much fun and a trip I would recommend anyone go on.

SWCP: You have participated in several conventions, film premieres, etc., having personally met some actors from the films of the saga. Do you remember any funny or unusual situations that occurred to any of those stars? 

B.C: I remember fondly attending the press screening for Solo.  I was blown away by that film, i thought it was superb.  After the press screening we travelled up to Pinewood Studios where the film was shot, and saw the film again at midnight in a small screening room for 30 people with some of the talent who made the film.  That was an awesome and unique experience that you just can't put into words.  It was surreal to see such a wonderful film, at the very place it was made in such a intimate setting with friends and talent.


SWCP: At this time so troubled on a global scale because of the covid virus pandemic 19,what message would you like to send to Star Wars fans? 

B.C: It´s strange and usual times for sure.  It remains hard to comprehend.  I always try and visit Celebration when it happens as nothing beats being with fans.  In all likelihood that opportunity will be lost this year.  So, as a fandom we have to find new ways to connect and enjoy the franchise together.  The team at Fantha Tracks have been catching up weekly over Zoom for example.  The Star Wars community is special, and I can't wait to see what unique content we get during these times as people let their creativity bubble.  My message to everyone is to stay safe, so hopefully we can all re-unite in the future at Celebration, other conventions and once again share that joy of watching new Star Wars content together in cinemas.  In the short term we can all watch together on Disney+!!!
