Entrevistas SWCP: Ross Mullan

 

Ross Mullan é um ator britânico-Canadiano que trabalhou no teatro e em vários filmes e programas de televisão como: Game of Thrones, Doctor Who , Clash of the Titans, entre outros.

SWCP: Conte-nos um pouco mais sobre o seu trabalho em Game of Thrones. Em que cenas você apareceu como um WhiteWalker? 

R.M: Trabalhei em Game of Thrones como o White Walker original nas temporadas 2, 3 e 4. Eu era o White Walker que apareceu pela primeira vez no final da temporada 2 e depois foi morto pelo Sam na 3ª temporada.  Voltei como outro caminhante branco na 4ª temporada para entregar o bebê ao Rei da Noite.

SWCP: Você é também é um marionetista estabelecido e artista de voz, tendo treinado com a empresa Jim Henson há muitos anos atrás. Como foi essa experiência? 

R.M:  Respondi a um anúncio no jornal em 1992. A empresa de Jim Henson, The Muppets, estava então sediada em Camden e eles estavam a procurar treinar novos marionetistas. Fui treinado por alguns meses pelo Kevin Clash, que interpretou o Elmo na Vila Sésamo. Voltei então ao meu trabalho regular como ator de teatro, mas as minhas habilidades de marionetes só foram colocadas em uso em 2006, quando manipulei a marionete de um urso chamado Nev no programa da BBC, Bear Behaving Badly,durante seis anos. Eu sou realmente um ator com habilidades de marionetes.

SWCP: Tendo encarnado várias criaturas durante o seu trajeto profissional, qual foi até agora a que mais diversão lhe deu a interpretar?  

R.M: O mais divertido foi provavelmente o White Walker porque tive de frequentar aulas de equitação por muitos meses antes de filmarmos. Além disso, a emoção de ser um personagem principal revelado numa série, é sempre uma sensação incrível. O figurino e a maquilhagem levaram cinco horas para serem colocados, mas valeu a pena.

SWCP: E a que teve mais dificuldade em interpretar? 

R.M: A criatura mais difícil que interpretei foi uma das bruxas Stygian em Clash of the Titans. Não podíamos ver através da maquilhagem e por isso ficamos essencialmente cegos durante todo o dia de filmagem. Além disso, estava muito quente. Estávamos a trabalhar com vapor e fogo de verdade e as próteses eram muito pesadas. Difícil,mas o resultado foi bom e os produtores ficaram muito felizes com o nosso trabalho. 

SWCP: Tem sido convidado a participar em diversas convenções. O que de melhor nos pode dizer sobre a interação entre os atores e o público? 

R.M: As convenções são a cereja no topo do bolo das nossas carreiras. Sou abençoado por ter feito um trabalho que as pessoas amam o suficiente para querer participar em convenções e vestirem-se como o meu personagem e vir conversar sobre as minhas experiências. Os fãs são brilhantes e muitas vezes sabem mais sobre os nossos programas do que nós. As convenções são divertidas e eu conheço pessoas incríveis de todas as esferas da vida e de todo o mundo.É maravilhoso. 

SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos seus fãs? 

R.M: Mantenham-se seguros e bem durante estes tempos desafiadores. Voltaremos e estaremos juntos novamente. Continuem a assistir aos programas que inspiram e ajudam vocês a ficarem sãso.O meu coração está com todos vós.

Ross Mullan is a Canadian born British actor living in London,who worked in several films,Television shows such as:  Game of Thrones, Doctor Who ,Clash of the Titans,among others.

SWCP: Tell us a bit more about your work on Game of Thrones. In what scenes did you appear as a  WhiteWalker?  

R.M: I worked on Game of Thrones as the original WhiteWalker in Seasons 2, 3 and 4. I was the whitewalker that first appeared at the season finale of Season 2 and then was later killed by Sam in Season 3.  I returned as another whitewalker in Season 4 to deliver the baby to the Night King. 

SWCP: You are also an established Puppeteer and voice over artist having trained with Jim Hensons company many years ago.How it was that experience? 

R.M:  I answered an ad in the newspaper back in 1992. Jim Henson's company The Muppets were then based in Camden and they were looking to train new puppeteers. I was trained for a few months by Kevin Clash who played Elmo on Sesame Street. I then went back to my regular work as a stage actor but my puppeteering skills were put to use in 2006 when I puppeteered a bear called Nev on the BBC's Bear Behaving Badly for 6 years. I am really an actor with puppeteering skills.

SWCP: Having played several creatures during your professional journey, what has been so far the one that gave you the most fun to play?

R.M: The most fun was probably the whitewalker because I was sent out for horse riding lessons for many months before we would shoot. Also the excitement of being a major character revealed on a show is always an amazing feeling. The costume and make-up took 5 hours to put on but it was worth it all. 

 SWCP: And the one you had the most difficulty interpreting?

R.M: The most difficult creature I played was one of the Stygian witches in Clash of the Titans. We could not see through the make-up and so were essentially blind for the whole of the days shooting. Plus it was very hot. We were working with real steam and fire and the prosthetics were very heavy. Difficult as it was the result was good and the producers were really happy with our work. 

SWCP: You've been invited to participate in various conventions. What good can you tell us about the interaction between the actors and the audience?

R.M: Conventions are the icing on the cake of our careers. I am blessed to have done work that people love enough to want to attend conventions and dress as my character and come chat about my experiences. The fans are brilliant and often know more about our shows then we sometimes do. The conventions are fun and i get to meet amazing people from all walks of life from all over the world. How wonderful. 

SWCP: What message would you like to send to your fans?

R.M: Stay safe and well during these challenging times. We will be back and we will be together again. Keep watching the shows that inspire and help you stay sane. My heart is with you all.
