Adrienne Jo Barbeau é uma dobradora e atriz norte-americana que foi uma das rainhas indiscutíveis de filmes de terror dos anos 80, a voluptuosa atriz era um símbolo sexual nessa época.

SWCP: Trabalhou no filme de ficção científica Fuga de Nova-York 1997.É fã deste género de filmes ou o terror é mais a “Sua onda”?

 

A.B: Embora eu seja fã de Escape From New York, não sou uma grande fã de ficção científica e sou ainda menos fã do género terror.  Gosto de atuar em filmes de terror, mas não gosto de vê-los.  Sou fã de ação/aventura quando se trata de filmes e como espectadora televisiva tende para séries de mistério europeias - qualquer coisa sobre MHZChoice, Acorn, Britbox; qualquer coisa da Europa, Escandinávia, Nova Zelândia, Austrália.

SWCP: Foi dirigida em vários filmes pelo icónico realizador John Carpenter.Que memórias lhe trazem esses tempos?

A.B:  Tenho ótimas lembranças de trabalhar em todos os filmes que fiz com o John.Escrevi sobre alguns deles no meu livro de memórias There Are Worse Things I Could Do.Um dos meus favoritos é o dia em que nos conhecemos.

Entrei no escritório dele para uma entrevista porque ele queria contratar-me para o filme televisivo dele, "Alguém está me assistindo".Eu mal podia vê-lo através da fumaça do seu cigarro, mas rapaz, fiquei imediatamente atraída ele.Achei-o muito atraente.Mal sabia eu que acabaríamos por nos apaixonar e nos casarmos!

SWCP: É verdade que trabalhou como dançarina Go-Go de Nova York numa boate administrada pela Máfia de 1964 a 1967 tendo desistido depois que o dono decidiu transformar esse lugar num bar de biquíni?

A.B: Disseram-me que fui uma das primeiras dançarinas.A história completa de como isso aconteceu também está no meu livro de memórias.Sim, embora eu não soubesse na época,o meu chefe era o chefe de uma das maiores famílias da máfia.Matty, o Cavalo Ianello:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Ianniello.

Usamos collants de manga comprida quando comecei, depois duas peças de roupa.Saí para trabalhar como garçonete numa churrascaria chique e depois consegui o meu primeiro contrato teatral para fazer ações de verão. 

SWCP: Como foi o seu regresso aos palcos de Nova York pela primeira vez em 34 anos para interpretar Judy Garland em "A Propriedade Conhecida como Garland"?

A.B: The Property Known as Garland foi a minha primeira vez de volta aos palcos em Nova York desde que deixei Grease em 1972, embora eu tivesse feito muitas produções teatrais em todos os estados.Não foi um show fácil de fazer, representando a Judy Garland sem fazer uma imitação dela.O nosso público adorou, mas as críticas foram misturadas; os críticos de Nova York opuseram-se ao meu ser da comunidade de Hollywood.Eu gostava de trabalhar em Nova York, mas não era o meu trabalho favorito. 

SWCP: Por que é que o seu papel no remake de terror Halloween (2007) foi excluído da produção final do filme?

A.B: Não sabia que a minha cena no Halloween de Rob Zombie tinha sido cortada até o Rob me ter ligado na manhã da estreia."Você está indo para a exibição?", Perguntou ele.  "Não, eu não estou planeando isso."  "Bem, eu só queria que você soubesse que tive de cortar um monte de cenas porque o filme estava a ficar muito longo e a sua cena com o Malcolm não entrou.Vai estar no corte do diretor.Por mim, tudo bem.   Diverti-me a  trabalhar com o Rob e com o Malcolm e isso é tudo o que importava.

SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos seus fãs? 

A.B: O que eu gostaria de dizer a todos os meus fãs em Portugal?Mal posso esperar para visitar o vosso país.Cada vez mais vejo fotos da sua beleza, e como os meus amigos voltaram (Tom Atkins é um deles) de férias lá, ele passou para o topo da minha lista de destinos.Na verdade, espero vir a ser escalada para um filme que seja eventualmente lá gravado e poder então ser capaz de realmente conhecer Portugal!

Adrienne Jo Barbeau is an American actress/voice actress who was one of the undisputed queens of 80s horror films; the voluptuous actress was a sex symbol at the time. 

SWCP: You worked on the science fiction film Escape from New York 1997.Are you a fan of this genre of movies or are terror more like "Your wave"?

A.B: Although I am a fan of Escape From New York, I am not a big science fiction fan and I am even less a fan of the horror genre.  I do like acting in horror films, but I don't like watching them.  I'm an action/adventure fan when it comes to films and my television viewing tends toward European mystery series - anything on MHZChoice, Acorn, Britbox; anything from Europe, Scandinavia, New Zealand, Australia. 

SWCP: You've been directed in several films by the iconic director John Carpenter. What memories bring you these times?

A.B: I have great memories of working on all the films I did with John.  I wrote about some of them in my memoir There Are Worse Things I Could Do.  One of my favorites is the day we first met.  I walked into his office for an interview because he wanted to hire me for his television film Someone's Watching Me.  I could barely see him through his cigarette smoke, but boy, I was immediately taken with him.  I found him very attractive.  Little did I know then that we would end up falling in love and getting married!

SWCP: Is it true that you worked as a New York City go-go dancer in a Mafia-run nightclub from 1964-1967 and you quit after the owner decided to turn the place into a bikini bar? 

A.B: I've been told that I was one of the very first go-go dancers ever.  The full story of how that came to be is also in my memoir.  Yes, although I didn't know it at the time, my boss turned out to be the head of one of the major mafia families.  Matty the Horse Ianello  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Ianniello.   We wore long sleeved leotards when I first started, then two piece outfits.  I left to work as a waitress in a fancy steakhouse and then got my first theatrical contract to do summer stock.

SWCP: How was your return to the New York stage for the first time in 34 years to portray Judy Garland in "The Property Known as Garland"?

A.B: The Property Known as Garland was my first time back on stage in NYC since I left Grease in 1972, although I had done  many theatrical productions throughout the states.  It was not an easy show to do, representing Judy Garland without doing an impersonation of her.  Our audiences loved it, but the reviews were mixed; the New York critics objected to my being from the Hollywood community.  I enjoyed working back in New York, but it wasn't my favorite job. 

SWCP: Why was your role in the horror remake Halloween (2007) ultimately deleted from the final finished film?

A.B: I didn't know my scene in Rob Zombie's Halloween  had been cut until Rob called me the morning of the premiere."Are you going to the screening?" he asked."No, I'm not planning on it." "Well, I just wanted to let you know I had to cut a bunch of scenes because the movie was running long and your scene with Malcolm didn't get in.  It'll be in the director's cut."That was okay with me.  I had a good time working with Rob and Malcolm and that's all that mattered.

SWCP: What message would you like to send to your fans? 

A.B: What I'd like to say to all my fans in Portugal?  I can't wait to visit your country.  More and more I see pictures of its beauty, and as my friends have returned (Tom Atkins is one) from vacationing there,  it's moved to the top of my list of destinations.  Actually what I'm hoping is I'll be cast in a movie that films there and I'll be able to really get to know Portugal!
