Entrevistas SWCP: Rory Ross

 

Rory Ross é um ator Americano que trabalhou em vários filmes e séries televisivas.Em O Livro de Boba Fett,Rory interpretou o papel de um Tusken Raider e também interpretou um Stormtrooper na tão esperada série "Obi-Wan Kenobi".

 

SWCP: Fale-nos um pouco acerca do seu trabalho em Star Wars.

R.R: Tive a incrível oportunidade de fazer parte de três séries de Star Wars, começando com The Book Of Boba Fett no papel de um ancião Tusken Raider.Assumi o papel durante as refilmagens, mas ele foi originalmente criado para o meu grande amigo Greg Kufera pela equipa de figurinos. A partir daí, entrei na série Kenobi por quase seis meses como Stormtrooper. Um grande obrigado a Warren Proulx (substituto de Kenobi) por me ajudar a garantir o papel. Eu também retratei um Trandoshan em Daiyu, toquei "Radio" na toca de especiarias que Kenobi destrói e dividi o papel de um Melitto com o meu amigo Greg. O que foi super fixe nesse papel em particular é que foi a primeira vez que a espécie Melitto foi vista na tela. Ele havia sido cortado em O Despertar da Força, então Greg e eu conseguimos estabelecer os movimentos e maneirismos do Melitto, tornando-nos parte da história de Star Wars. 

 

Finalmente, tive a chance de estar na terceira temporada de The Mandalorian. Inicialmente, fui escalado como um pirata Nikto, mas, ironicamente, fui feito refém pelo meu duplo, Nico Woulard. Este foi um papel super divertido, pois consegui torná-lo meu e criar a minha própria história de fundo em termos dos meus sentimentos por Bo e como eles mudaram à medida que a temporada progredia.Também retratei o braço direito de Heavy como um Comandante Secreto Mandaloriano e fiz parte de quase todas as grandes cenas cruciais sobre Mandalore. Alerta de spoiler:Sobrevivi e compartilhei o canto vitorioso "FOR MANDALORE" com Koska e Axe. Então, veremos o que vem por aí para o meu personagem e se a história dele vai continuar. 

SWCP: Já era fã de Star Wars antes de trabalhar para esta franquia? 

 R.R: Sou muito fã desde os primeiros dias, depois que a minha mãe me mostrou Star Wars: Uma Nova Esperança enquanto eu estava passando por um evento traumático onde estive na Enfermaria de Infectologia Hospitalar no Iowa City Children's Hospital,cerca de um mês. A história de Luke Skywalker é o que me deu esperança e inspiração de que tudo ia dar certo. Desde então, assisti a todos os meios de Star Wars, desde a animação (Clone Wars Season 7, os ultimos quatro episódios são imperdíveis!) ao cinema e, claro, às séries do Disney+. Também tive a incrível oportunidade de visitar a exposição Star Wars, onde a ciência encontra a imaginação. 

(A razão pela qual eu estava ostentando o moicano arco-íris era que eu tinha angariado com sucesso US$ 3.000 para ajudar a construir banheiros nas Honduras. Eu tinha dito que se a gente arrecadasse pelo menos R$ 500, iria raspar a minha cabeça tipo moicano com um arco-íris). Foi lá que também consegui várias fotos com Tusken Raiders, Stormtroopers e o próprio Boba Fett. Pode-se dizer que fui manifestando esse sonho há algum tempo. Um ponto ainda maior sobre a manifestação ser uma coisa real é que alguns meses antes de ter conseguido o papel de uma vida, eu tinha encomendado a um meu amigo para me fazer o meu próprio traje de Jedi.

Assim que foi entregue, convenci um bom amigo meu,o Keegan Snow, para tirar fotos minhas em Simi Valley - Rocky Peak Park, onde as cenas de Boba Fett e da segunda temporada de Mandalorian foram filmadas. Realmente acredito que isso ajudou a manifestar o que eu sonhava em fazer e me tornar parte de Star Wars. 

Star Wars também inspirou a minha paixão pelo Espaço e pela ciência, assim como por inúmeros outros. Quase me tornei engenheiro aeroespacial por causa disso e tive a sorte de ter visto o Rover Mars Curiosity na sua última aparição pública antes do seu lançamento em novembro de 2011. Facto divertido : O meu nome é um dos milhões de nomes gravados num dos seus microchips. Então, tecnicamente, eu estive em Marte. 

SWCP: Você viajou extensivamente ao redor do mundo.O que conhece de Portugal? 

R.R: Tive a incrível oportunidade de ter viajado para cinco dos sete continentes, com a América do Sul e a Antártida sendo os últimos da minha lista para visitar. É certo que não sei muito sobre Portugal; na verdade, tenho vergonha de dizer que pensava que Portugal ficava na América do Sul até que pesquisei. Adoraria mudar isso num futuro próximo e descobrir tudo o que Portugal tem para oferecer!  

SWCP: Em que projetos está atualmente a trabalhar?

R.R: Estou a trabalhar em algumas coisas diferentes no momento. Atualmente, estou passando por uma angariação de fundos para o meu novo filme de fãs de Star Wars: Blood & Sand (título em progresso), onde sou o co-criador e ator principal. Interpreto um Jedi perdido que se desviou do caminho Jedi até que um viajante inesperado muda o meu destino para sempre. Não posso dizer muito neste momento, mas posso dizer que haverá alguns regressos divertidos a Clone Wars e outras fontes para os fãs muito nerds como eu. A linha do tempo para isso decorre logo antes de O Despertar da Força e durante esses eventos. Também estou a preparar-me para lançar um novo reality show: 30 Day Trial with Rory Ross, onde tentarei uma nova habilidade durante uma hora todos os dias durante o mês. O objetivo é mostrar aos outros e a mim mesmo que, mesmo sem 10.000 horas (a quantidade necessária para dominar uma habilidade), você já pode começar a fazer melhorias massivas num curto período de tempo. Após os trinta dias, você pode decidir se quer continuar treinando essa habilidade ou se sente que ela não foi produtiva para os seus objetivos/hobbies, você pode descartá-la, mas pelo menos você ficou com ela. Dessa forma, você constrói a sua tenacidade e perseverança enquanto também espera se divertir um pouco ao longo do caminho. A primeira habilidade com a qual vou começar é fazer malabarismos. Eu tenho uma péssima coordenação olho-mão, então esta será uma coordenação interessante. Mas depois, os torcedores poderão votar na próxima. Vou ter um especialista mostrando o caminho no primeiro dia, e então  eles vão verificar periodicamente, dando o seu feedback honesto. Deve ser muito divertido, e temos um convidado especial que tem uma conexão com o universo Star Wars também, então você terá que verificar para ver quem é! SWCP: Você quer usar os holofotes e a exposição do seu trabalho para trazer conscientização para grandes instituições de caridade que fazem um trabalho incrível. Espera fazer algo desse género a favor dos refugiados da Ucrânia?

R.R: Fiz algo muito cedo com os meus bons amigos no Convor Call & Rexin Around, onde arrecadamos dinheiro para ajudar a Alderaanian Rose a sustentar as crianças adotivas e famílias que ela está ajudando lá. É algo que está na minha cabeça, e eu sempre quero ajudar os fundadores, não importa de onde eles sejam. 

 SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos fãs de Star Wars?

R.R: Muito obrigado pelo carinho que me demonstraram e por me receberem de braços abertos. Estou verdadeiramente honrado por estar entre as vossas fileiras, pois a comunidade de Star Wars é uma das bases de fãs mais solidárias do mundo, sempre pronta para dar a mão a quem precisa. Que continuemos a ser essa luz brilhante e dar esperança e inspiração a todos os que encontramos. Muito amor, e que a Força esteja convosco, sempre.

 Rory Ross is an American actor who has worked on several films and television series. In The Book of Boba Fett, Rory played the role of a Tusken Raider and is also played a Stormtrooper in the much-anticipated "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series.

 

SWCP: Tell us a little bit about your work in Star Wars.

R.R: I’ve had the amazing opportunity to be a part of 3 Star Wars shows, starting with The Book Of Boba Fett as a Tusken Raider Elder. I took over the role during reshoots, but it was originally created for my good friend Greg Kufera by the costume team. From there, I joined Kenobi for nearly 6 months as a Stormtrooper. A big thanks to Warren Proulx (Kenobi’s stand-in) for helping me secure the role. I also portrayed a Trandoshan on Daiyu, played "Radio" in the spice den that Kenobi destroys, and shared the role of a Melitto with my buddy Greg. What was super cool about this particular role is that it was the first time the Melitto species was seen on screen. It had been cut from The Force 

 

 Awakens, so Greg and I were able to establish the Melitto's movements and mannerisms, making us part of Star Wars history. Finally, I got the chance to be in The Mandalorian Season 3. Initially, I was cast as a Nikto pirate, but ironically, I was taken hostage by my stunt double, Nico Woulard. This was a super fun role as I got to make it my own and create my own backstory in terms of my feelings for Bo and how they changed as the season progressed. I also portrayed Heavy's right-hand man as a Mandalorian Covert Commander and was part of nearly all the big pivotal scenes regarding Mandalore. Spoiler Alert I survived and shared in the victorious chant "FOR MANDALORE" with Koska and Axe. So, we shall see what is next for my character and whether his story will continue. 

SWCP: Were you a Star Wars fan before you worked for this franchise?

R.R: I've been quite the fan since my early days, after my mom showed me Star Wars: A New Hope while I was going through a traumatic event that had me in the Iowa City Children's Hospital Infectious Disease Ward for close to a month. Luke Skywalker's story is what gave me hope and inspiration that everything was going to be alright. Since then, I've watched every medium of Star Wars, from animation (Clone Wars Season 7, the last four episodes are a must-see!) to movies and, of course, the Disney+ series. I've also had the amazing opportunity to visit the Star Wars exhibit where Science Meets Imagination. 

(The reason I was sporting the rainbow mohawk was that I had successfully raised over $3,000 to help build bathrooms in Honduras. I had said that if we raised at least $500, I'd shave my head into a rainbow mohawk). It was there that I also got several pictures with Tusken Raiders, Stormtroopers, and Boba Fett himself. One could say I've been manifesting this dream for some time.An even bigger point about manifestation being a real thing is that a few months prior to getting the role of a lifetime, I had commissioned my friend to make me my own custom Jedi outfit. As soon as it was delivered, I convinced a good buddy of mine, Keegan Snow, to take pictures of me in Simi Valley - Rocky Peak Park where Boba Fett's scenes from Mandalorian Season 2 were filmed. I truly believe this helped manifest what I dreamed of doing and making me a part of Star Wars. 

Star Wars also inspired my passion for space and science, as it does for countless others. I almost became an aerospace engineer because of this and was lucky to have seen the Mars Curiosity Rover for its last public appearance before its launch in November 2011. Fun fact : My name is one of the million or so names etched on one of its microchips. So technically, I've been to Mars. 

SWCP: You have traveled extensively around the world. What do you know about Portugal? 

R.R: I've had the amazing opportunity to have traveled to 5 of the 7 continents, with South America and Antarctica being the last on my list to visit. Admittedly, I don't know too much about Portugal; in fact, I'm ashamed to say I had thought Portugal was in South America until I just looked it up. I would love to change that in the near future and discover all that Portugal has to offer! 

SWCP: What projects are you currently working on?

R.R: I'm working on a few different things at the moment. Currently, I am undergoing fundraising for my new Star Wars fan film: Blood & Sand (Working Title), where I am the co-creator and main actor. I play a lost Jedi who has gone astray from the Jedi way until an unexpected traveler changes my destiny forever. I can't say too much at this time, but I can say there will be some fun callbacks to Clone Wars and other sources for the very nerdy fans like myself. The timeline for it takes place right before The Force Awakens and during those events. I think the fans will enjoy it, and I can't wait for everyone to see what we have created. I'm also getting ready to launch a new reality series: 30 Day Trial with Rory Ross, where I'll be trying a new skill one hour every day during the month. The purpose is to show others and myself that even without 10,000 hours (the amount it takes to master a skill), you can already begin to make massive improvements in a short amount of time. After the 30 days, you can decide whether you want to continue training that skill or if you feel that it wasn't productive towards your goals/hobbies, you can discard it, but at least you stuck with it. This way, you build your tenacity and perseverance while also hopefully having some fun along the way.

The first skill that I'm going to start with is juggling pins. I have terrible hand-eye coordination, so this will be an interesting one. But afterwards, the fans will be able to vote for the next one. I will have an expert show me the way on the first day, and then they will check in periodically, giving their honest feedback. It should be a lot of fun, and we have a special guest who has a connection to the Star Wars universe as well, so you'll have to check in to see who it is! SWCP: You want to use the spotlight and exposure of your work to bring awareness to large charities that do amazing work. Do you expect to do something like this for refugees from Ukraine? 

R.R: I did something very early on with my good friends at Convor Call & Rexin Around, where we raised money to help Alderaanian Rose support the foster children and families she is helping there. It is something that is on my mind, and I always want to help the foundlings, no matter where they are from.

 

SWCP: What message would you like to send to Star Wars fans? 

R.R: Thank you so much for the love you have shown me and for welcoming me with open arms. I am truly honored to be among your ranks, as the Star Wars community is one of the most supportive fan bases in the world, always quick to lend a hand to those in need.
