Andrew Jackson é um talentoso ator canadiano que trabalhou extensivamente na televisão, cinema, teatro clássico, voz comercial, animação e vídeojogos.

SWCP: Tem trabalhado em várias séries televisivas de ficção científica como Stargate SG-1, Andromeda,entre outras.É fã desta temática?Gosta de Star Wars? 

A.J: Trabalhei em vários programas de SCI-FI ao longo dos anos, incluindo papéis em: STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS (Episódio: O Círculo Quebrado), MATÉRIA ESCURA, GAROTA PERDIDA, ARMAZÉM 13, KYLE XY, O COLECIONADOR, ANDRÓMEDA, TAKEN, SMALLVILLE, STARGATE SG-1, CHARMED, HIGLANDER (série), HIGHLANDER: THE RAVEN, SEXTA-FEIRA 13 (série) e TERRA: CONFLITO FINAL. Sou um grande fã de séries de ficção científica e fantasia de qualidade. Tenho um grande respeito e apreço pela saga STAR WARS.

SWCP: Sabemos que você pode executar muitas vozes e sotaques de personagens diferentes. Caso lhe fosse pedido,acha que conseguiria fazer um sotaque em português? O que conhece de Portugal? 

A.J: Os sotaques podem ser difíceis de dominar, mas também podem ser bastante libertadores para um ator. Fui chamado para realizar sotaques em russo, islandês, alemão, britânico, irlandês, franco-canadense, sul-americano, americano de Nova Jersey e espanhol. Nunca tentei um sotaque português até agora. Entendo que o sotaque português varia, dependendo da localização geográfica do indivíduo. Estarei de férias em Portugal, pela primeira vez neste outono. Estou ansioso para absorver a cultura, a comida, ser exposto à música local, ouvir Fado e aprender sobre a rica história do vosso país.

SWCP: Em 2020,interpretou o papel do Love Sausage num dos episódios da série,The Boys.O que tem a dizer sobre esta série que é a antítese dos super heróis?

A.J: A série de televisão THE BOYS é uma comédia negra satírica de ação, drama e vanguarda. Os personagens são muitas vezes desprovidos de qualquer senso de fibra moral ou integridade.A série que foi inspirada na história em banda desenhada do mesmo nome, reflete alguns dos extremos e personagens chocantes que vemos na arena política de hoje, no mundo da música contemporânea e na cena das celebridades do cinema.

Os personagens de super-heróis profundamente morais e abnegados da década de 1950 não ressoam mais com o público moderno. Nós relacionamo-nos com as falhas humanas inatas dos heróis modernos. Eles também falham, assim como o resto de nós.

SWCP: Tendo trabalhado com vários atores de renome, lembra-se de alguma situação engraçada ou inusitada que ocorreu com algum deles durante as filmagens?

A.J: Eu filmei alguns episódios da série de ficção científica, "ANDROMEDA" e trabalhei em estreita colaboração com a estrela do programa, Kevin Sorbo.Numa cena, objetos semelhantes a pedras foram derrubados, enquanto o cenário tremia. Eu estava direcionado para cair no chão e Kevin Sorbo foi instruído a agarrar-me pela cintura e me levantar. Uma vez de pé, esperava-se que começássemos a dialogar. Não sei o que eu comi naquele dia, mas de repente tinha gases. Ah... a vergonha! "AÇÃO", gritou o diretor. Fiz tudo ao meu alcance para não expelir gás. Apertei as minhas bochechas inferiores o mais forte que pude, enquanto o Sr. Sorbo apertou a minha cintura e levantou-me. O impensável ocorreu;Uma nota longa,subtil e aguda chiou. Kevin aparentemente não ouviu o som,mas fora das câmeras,disse-me que  ouviu o peido e começou a rir. Fiz tudo ao meu alcance para não rir e fiz as minhas falas. O diretor gritou: "CORTA .. isso foi ÓTIMO.. seguindo em frente"! Várias semanas depois, fui agendado para uma sessão de ADR. O diretor de som reproduziu a cena e eu pude ouvir o estranho som agudo. "Isso foi um... Isso foi um peido?perguntou ele. "Sim", respondi sentindo-me envergonhado. "Foi você ou o Kevin Sorbo"? "Eu não posso mentir ... foi o Kevin Sorbo". 

SWCP: Em que projetos está atualmente a trabalhar?

A.J: Atualmente estou a gravar um projeto de animação. Assinei um acordo de confidencialidade, então não posso compartilhar nenhum detalhe.

SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos seus fãs? 

A.J: Eu realmente aprecio todas as aventuras criativas, desafios e oportunidades de trabalho que tive nesta profissão de malucos. Dito isso, também reconheço e agradeço pelas vezes em que fui forçado a afastar-me da minha carreira. É importante não perder de vista as facetas mais significativas da vida diária. Muito obrigado por me pedirem para fazer esta entrevista e por me darem a oportunidade de chegar ás pessoas de Portugal.

Andrew Jackson is a Canadian talented actor who has worked extensively in television, film, classical theatre, commercial voice animation and video games. 

SWCP: You have worked on several science fiction TV series such as Stargate SG-1, Andromeda, among others. Are you a fan of this theme? Do you like Star Wars? 

A.J: I have worked on a number of SCI FI shows over the years including roles on the following; STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS (episode: The Broken Circle), DARK MATTER, LOST GIRL, WAREHOUSE 13, KYLE XY, THE COLLECTOR, ANDROMEDA, TAKEN, SMALLVILLE, STARGATE SG- 1, FIRST WAVE, CHARMED, HIGLANDER (series), HIGHLANDER: THE RAVEN, FRIDAY THE 13 TH (series) and EARTH FINAL CONFLICT. I’m a big fan of science fiction and quality sci-fi fantasy shows. I have a great respect and appreciation for the STAR WARS saga.

SWCP: We know that you can perform many different character voices and accents. If asked, do you think you could do an accent in Portuguese? What do you know about Portugal?

A.J: Accents can be challenging to master but they can also be quite freeing, for an actor. I’ve been called upon to perform accents in Russian, Icelandic, German, British, Irish, French Canadian, Southern American, New Jersey American and Spanish. I have never attempted a Portuguese accent, however. I understand the Portuguese accent varies, depending on the individual’s geographical location. I will be vacationing in Portugal, for the first time this fall. I look forward to soaking up the culture, food, being exposed to the local music, listening to Fado and learning about the country’s rich history.

SWCP: In 2020, you played the role of Love Sausage in one of the episodes of The Boys. What do you have to say about this Television show that is the antithesis of superheroes?

A.J: THE BOYS television series is a cutting-edge action, drama, satirical black comedy. The characters are often devoid of any sense of moral fiber or integrity. The show, inspired by the comic of the same name, reflects some the shocking extremes and characters we see in today’s political arena, the contemporary music world and film celebrity scene.

The deeply moral, self-sacrificing superhero characters of the 1950’s no longer resonate with a modern audience. We relate to the modern heroes innate human flaws. They mess up, just like the rest of us.

SWCP: Having worked with several renowned actors, do you remember any funny or unusual situations that occurred to any of them during filming?

A.J: I shot a couple of episodes on the science fiction series, “ANDROMEDA” and worked closely with the show’s star, Kevin Sorbo. In one scene, boulder-like objects were dropped, as the set shook. I was directed to fall to the floor and Kevin Sorbo was instructed to grab me around the waist and lift me to my feet. Once standing, we were expected to deliver dialogue. I don’t know what I ate that day but I suddenly had gas. Oh… the shame. “ACTION”, yelled the director. I did everything in my power not to expel gas. I squeezed my lower cheeks together as hard as I could, while Mr Sorbo squeezed my waist and lifted me to my feet. The unthinkable occurred. A long subtle high pitch note squeaked out. Kevin apparently didn’t hear the sound. The actor off camera heard the squeal and started laughing. I did everything in my power not to laugh and delivered my lines. The director yelled, “CUT..that was GREAT..moving on”! Several weeks later, I was booked for an ADR session. The sound director played back the scene and I could hear the strange high pitch noise. “Was that a….um…was that a fart?” he asked. “Yes”, I replied feeling ashamed. “Was that you or Kevin Sorbo”? “I cannot lie…it was Kevin Sorbo”.

SWCP: What projects are you currently working on? 

A.J: I am currently recording an animation project. I signed an NDA so I cannot share any details.

SWCP: What message would you like to send to your fans?  

A.J: I really appreciate all the creative adventures, challenges and work opportunities I’ve had in this madhouse profession. That said, I also recognize and give thanks for the times I’ve been forced to step away from my career. It’s important not to lose sight of the more meaningful facets of daily living.
