Nicholas Meyer é um premiado autor, roteirista e realizador americano.O seu trabalho criativo em publicação, cinema e televisão abrange mais de cinco décadas. Ele é mais conhecido por dirigir dois filmes da franquia Star Trek, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan e Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, além de co-escrever o roteiro de Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

 

 SWCP: Realizou e foi argumentista de alguns filmes de ficção científica.É fã desta temática? 

N.M: Não sou ligado a 'géneros' de nenhum tipo. Gosto de boas histórias e não me importo se são sci-fi, históricas, cómicas, sérias ou contemporâneas. Por "Boa história" eu quis dizer que, uma vez que você a ouviu, você entende o que eu queria contá-la. Esse é o meu único critério.        

 

 

SWCP: Fale-nos um pouco sobre o seu mais recente livro intitulado Sherlock Holmes and the Telegram from Hell.

 N.M: Sherlock Holmes e o telegrama do inferno será publicado a 27 de agosto nos EUA pela Mysterious Press.A história decorre durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial, envolvendo Sherlock Holmes e Dr. Watson que foram convidados a investigar um telegrama misterioso, enviado em código de Berlim via Washington D.C para o México.Todos os eventos no romance acabam por ser verdadeiros. É uma aventura arrepiante.  

 

 

SWCP: Você dirigiu The Day After (1983), da ABC, que continua sendo o filme televisivo mais assistido de todos os tempos (100 milhões de pessoas numa noite) e foi indicado a quatorze Emmys. Esperava tamanho sucesso?

 N.M:  Na verdade,nunca esperei que o Day After realmente entrasse no ar e, quando isso aconteceu, fiquei surpreso com o número de pessoas que assistiram. Estou pensando que se tantas pessoas não se tivessem oposto ao filme, ele não teria gerado tanta publicidade e controvérsia quanto gerou, resultando nessa enorme audiência. Acho que fez algum bem, resultando no tratado Reagan-Gorbachev, mas Donald Trump saiu desse tratado, então agora é hora de ter medo novamente.

  

 SWCP: Em que projetos está atualmente a trabalhar?

 N.M: Uma série de televisão proposta, um podcast Star Trek / peça de rádio e Holmes número sete, Sherlock Holmes e a coisa real.  

 

 SWCP: Que mensagem gostaria de enviar aos seus fãs? 

 

N.M: Obrigado por ficarem me acompanharem! Sem fãs,os artistas não são nada. Espero que gostem de Sherlock Holmes e do telegrama do inferno!

Nicholas Meyer is an award-winning American author, screenwriter and director. His body of creative work in publishing, film and television spans more than five decades.

He is best known for directing two films in the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, as well as co-writing the screenplay for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

 

SWCP: You've directed and screen-written a few science fiction films. Are you a fan of this theme? 

N.M: I am not wedded to ´genres´ of any kind. I  like good stories and don´t care whether they are sci-fi,historical,comical,serious or contemporany. By " Good story" I meant that once you´ve heard it,you understand why I wanted to tell it.That is my sole criterion.        

 

SWCP: Tell us a little about your latest book entitled Sherlock Holmes and the Telegram from Hell. 

N.M: Sherlock Holmes and the telegram from hell will be published august,27 in the U.S.A by the Mysterious Press.Set during world war I,it envolves Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson being asked to investigate a mysterious telegram,dispatched in code from Berlin via Washington D.C to Mexico.All the events in the novel turn out to be true. It is a hair-raising adventure.          

 

SWCP: You directed ABC’s The Day After (1983), which remains the single most-watched television film ever made (100 million people in one night) and was nominated for fourteen Emmys. Did you expect such success?

N.M: In truth,I never expected the Day After  to actually get on the air and when it did,I was astonished by the number of people who watched it. I'm thinking that if so many people hadn´t objected to the movie,it wouldn´t have generated as much publicity and controversy as it did,resulting in that huge viewership.  I  think it did some good resulting in the Reagan-Gorbachev treaty but Donald Trump walked out of that treaty so now it´s time to be scared again.

 

SWCP: What projects are you currently working on?

N.M:  A  proposed television series,a Star Trek podcast/radio play and Holmes number seven,Sherlock Holmes and the real thing.
