A famosa marca de água mineral é observada a cada ano com um design do frasco, muitas vezes original, durante a época de Natal.
Essas garrafas são projetadas por Mandy Brencys, com imagens dos personagens mais conhecidas de Star Wars: R2D2, C3PO, Chewbacca, Darth Vader e um Stormtrooper. Infelizmente, estas garrafas não estão a ser comercializadas e, actualmente, são apenas um conceito criativo ... Esperemos que a marca se deixe convencer pelos fãs e rapidamente comercialize estas garrafas soberbas que de certo farão parte na colecção de muitos fãs!

Entrevistas SWCP:Simon Williamnson

O britânico Simon Williamnson é um actor,operador de marionetes,director e escritor.Participou em Star Wars no "Regresso de Jedi"como operador de marionetes,Guarda Gamorreano,Oficial Mon Calamari e Max Reebo.Além de Star Wars,Simon tem uma vasta participação em diversos filmes e programas de tv,tendo sido um dos maiores artistas mímicos e produtor de criaturas dos últimos anos,especialmente nos anos 80.

SWCP: trabalhou com Jim Henson e Frank Oz.O que pode dizer-nos acerca destes dois colossos da manipulação de marionetes?

S.W:bom,é incomum ser dirigido por dois realizadores de uma só vez,e é igualmente incomum tê-los a actuar em conjunto contigo.Neste caso,foi uma experiência feliz;Jim iria liderar pelo exemplo,e era um chefe carinhoso.Ele dáva-nos workshops de marionetes uma vez por semana,antes das rodagens.Como eles também estavam a filmar"The Great Muppet Show"nos estúdios(Elstree,em Londres)nós íamos ensaiando e desenvolvendo os místicos Garthim e Landstriders para "Dark Crystal".Também nos chamaram para fazer alguns bonecos em cenas com muita multidão;claro que havia hierarquia entre os artistas regulares dos "Marretas"e o grupo em que eu estava inserido-mais ou menos 10 mímicos contratados para desempenhar o maior número de personagens em pé,mas o Jim e o Frank fizeram com que nos sentíssemos igualmente valorizados.Senti-me muito privelegiado por estar ao serviço de Jim num memorial celebrado na Catedral de St. Paul em Londres,que foi subvertido num estilo típico dos "Marretas" por um coro de artistas desse elenco que se levantaram e cantaram na congregoração.Depois de o Frank ter deixado o Jim a criar por conta própria,e de se tornar num realizador de cinema por direito próprio,mais tarde trabalhei para ele em "Little Shop of Horrors".Frank tem um sentido muito próprio de diversão:por exemplo,tivemos torneios de ténis de mesa entre os takes-o que é a primeira vez que estive num estúdio onde isso aconteceu.Foi óptimo trabalhar com ambos.

SWCP: teve uma participação num pequeno filme intitulado"The Return of the Ewok"em 1982 e que seteve para ser apresentado como um filme promocional para o "Regresso de Jedi".Que personagem desempenhou nesse filme?

S.W: "O Regresso do Ewok" foi um pequeno filme feito durante as filmagens de "O Regresso de Jedi"e que foi realizado pelo David Tomblin,que faleceu no ano passado depois de uma longa e brilhante carreira como 1º director assistente(os ADS são os tipos com as vozes mais fortes nos estúdios).A primeira vez que ouvi falar dele,foi quando estava a sair do traje do Max Rebo,enquanto decorria uma pausa de vinte minutos para fotografar e redefenir a câmara.

Perguntaram-me se não me importaria de ficar atrás na pausa para o lanche enquanto o David estava a filmar um projesto especial da sua autoria;foi para apresentar o Warwick Davis-que na altura era ainda um jovem rapaz,fazendo o seu 1º filme.Eu achava que tudo aquilo era algum tipo de coisa de caridade;o objéctivo dessa cena era que Warwick entraria no Palácio do Jabba para ser confrontado com todas as criaturas que se vêm lá no filme,mas tudo completamente parado,como se tivésse transformado em pedra.Numa determinada altura,Warwick tocou acidentalmente nas teclas do orgão electrónico do Max Rebo;eu saltei e comecei a tocar música,assim como o resto da banda que assim ganhou vida.Foi uma espécie de conto de fadas,uma cena mágica.Assim,o personagem que eu interpretei,foi novamente o Max Rebo.Houveram outras cenas nas horas do lanche,que não sei muito sobre elas,mas essa foi muito curta e feita muito rápidamente.Nâo me importava de faltar à minha hora de almoço,pois havia sempre longos intervalos nas filmagens e era possível petiscar noutras alturas.Ao longo dos anos,perguntava-me sobre o que tinha acontecido a esse filme e se tinha sido concluído;nem sabia sequer o seu título.Então,em 2005 estava eu num evento de Star Wars para fins de caridade organizado pela 501 st Legion no Reino Unido(no museu espacial de Leicester) e esse filme estava a ser exibido.Consegui finalmente vê-lo após vinte e tal anos mais tarde.

SWCP:realizou um pequeno filme intitulado "The Right Hand".Pode resumir-nos esse filme?

S.W: é uma curta-metragem,uma comédia dramática,que foi exibida em alguns festivais no país e no exterior tendo a sua estreia mundial na DragonCon que é uma grande convenção de ficção científica/fantasia em Atlanta,Geórgia.Fui lá como um assinante de Star Wars e como cineasta.A história não é de ficção científª ou fantasia,mas sim um rito de passagem sobre a história de um jovem que está ansioso por saber como se tornar num às das cartas.No entanto,ele fica confiante demais e arrogante;é uma lição de vida.Tem uma duração de pouco menos de 18 minutos,tenho algumas fotos e uma sinopse sobre ele em:http://www.simonjwilliamson.co.uk/ e em http://www.fantasyridge.co.uk/ .Há também um pequeno trecho no imdb.com.Foi criado no País de Gales,assim como dois dos festivais onde foi exibido,no Screen Festival e no Swansea Bay Int. Film Festival,onde ganhou dois prémios.Foi realizado em 2004,então está na hora de eu fazer outro e,na verdade,já tenho um roteiro de corpo inteiro que estou a tentar conseguir apoio para ele.Há duas versões,no Reino Unido e nos E.U.A(chamada "Incidente Hogswood")tendo recebido um prémio no concurso de roteiros em L.A há dois anos atrás.

SWCP: como foi a sua experiência no filme Star Wars:the return of the Jedi?

S.W: por causa do meu trabalho em "Dark Crystal"que nós tinhamos terminado de rodar no mesmo estúdio seis meses antes,eu já era conhecido deles.O meu nome foi comentado quando eles decidiram que iam ter sequências pesadas com criaturas nesse filme,.como o Plácio do Jabba-então,convidaram-me a participar;enquanto estavamos a filmar "Revenge of the Jedi"

(o filme tinha esse nome antes da sua estréia) eu estava originalmente contratado apenas como manipulador de marionetes.Eles contrataram um grupo separado de mimos,como o Sean Crawford,Tim Dry e Gerald Home,mas aos poucos,os dois marionetistas e mimos vieram juntos e desempenhámos o papel dos Mon Calamaris.O Max Rebo foi pouco menos do que um fantoche e mais uma roupa no corpo,foi muito divertido desempenhar esse papel;foi pena eu não poder ver quase nada dentro do traje e tinha de ter um auscultador para poder receber orientação durante cada filmagem.Um pouco mais tarde,alguns de nós-os manipuladores de marionetes(eu e o Hugh Spight) fomos como que "empurrados"para a frente para actuar como guardas gamorreanos,já que os actores que estavam a fazer esse papel,desmaiaram nos estúdio.Como o Hugh e eu tinhamos trabalhado em "Dark Crystal",já estávamos habituados a lidar com o calor e a sufocação de estar dentro de um traje pesado deuma criatura.Então,fizemos os principais papéis dos guardas gamorreanos a partir daí.Significou também que o meu contrato nesse filme foi prolongado mais duas vezes,pois havia muito a fazer;foi um grande trabalho,não tão longo,intenso ou variado como "Dark Crystal",mas estou orgulhoso por ter feito parte de algo tão grandioso e de tão longa duração,como Star Wars.

SWCP: nesse filme,uma das personagens que encarnou foi a do Gartogg,um guarda gamorreano que foi devorado pelo Rancor.-Apesar desse monstro não ser real,deve ter sido um pouco intimidante estar preso nas suas garras,não?

S.W: bem,era só uma filmagem em close-ups e planos médios e eu tinha de reagir a um Rancor que na realidade não estava presente físicamente.Eu nem sequer sabia qual seria o seu aspecto,apenas sabia qual era o seu tamanho.Desempenhei a sequência que conduziu o guarda gamorreano a ser agarrado e devorado e a actuação teve de ser "grande" e melodramática afim de permitir que qualquer desempenho fôsse registado na câmara através do traje pesado e grosso;cada movimento tinha de ser exagerado,caso contrário não se veria bem.Na verdade,quando estava a tentar escapar ao Rancor,o meu sapato caíu ficando pendurado à volta dos meus tornozelos enquanto eu estava a tentar escalar a rampa para a liberdade.Enquanto isso,ao fazer grandes e exagerados gestos em pânico(o departamento de som adicionou os grunhidos de porco depois)mas eu estava a fazê-los no momento,pelo menos para me encarnar no personagem.Deve ter soado a ridículo ao pessoal da produção.Na verdade,foi tão ridículo que me pôs a rir loucamente dentro do traje.De repente,surpreendeu-me o quão absurdo foi:o exagero,o sapato em falta,o grunhido abafado...enquanto estava a tentar escapar de algo que não estava lá;felizmente o meu riso cada vez mais incontrolável,não era grande o suficiente para ser registado através das camadas de espuma de borracha verde do guarda gamorreano.Assim,ninguém o ouviu além de mim próprio-

SWCP: que mensagem gostaria de deixar aos fãs portugueses de Star Wars?

S.W: então,espero que as minhas respostas tenham servido aos fãs portugueses de Star Wars,como uma visão interessante sobre o meu trabalho na década de 1980.Se existir uma convenção prevista para Portugal em 2011,lembrem-se de me convidar,já que não estou assim tão longe(Inglaterra) e nunca visitei Portugal.As convenções europeias a que tenho comparecido,ocorrem sobretudo na Alemanha,França,Bélgica e Holanda.

Williamson is an actor,operator of puppets,director and writer.He participated in Star Wars:the return of the Jedi as an operator/puppeteer and actor as Max Rebo,Gamorrean Guard and a Calamari Officer.Besides Star Wars,Simon has an extensive involvement in several movies and tv series,being one of the most important artists-mime/producers of creatures in the 80's.

SWCP: you worked with Jim Henson and Frank Oz.What do you think about these two giants of the puppets?

S.W:Well, it's unusual to be directed by two directors at once, and it's also unusual to have them performing with you. In this case it was a happy experience. Jim would lead by example, and was a caring boss. Jim would give us puppetry workshops once a week, prior to shooting. As they were also shooting THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER at the Studio (Elstree, north of London) while we were rehearsing and developing the Mystics, Garthim and Landstriders for DARK CRYSTAL. They also called us in to do some puppetry in large crowd scenes. Of course there was hierarchy between the regular Muppet performers and the group I was in - ten or so mimes, hired to play the larger, less upright characters - but Jim and Frank made sure we all felt equally valued. I felt very privileged to be at Jim's memorial service at the celebrated St Paul's Cathedral in London, which was subverted in a typical Muppet style by a chorus of Muppet performers getting up and singing to the congregation. After Frank left Henson's to set up on his own and become a movie director in his own right. I later worked for him on LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, and Frank has his own, different sense of fun: for example, we had table tennis tournaments between takes - which is the first time I've been on a set where that happened. It was great to work with them both. SWCP: you participated in a short film entitled "the return of the Ewok"in 1982,wich was to be presented as a promotional film for the "Return of the Jedi".Wich character do you played in this short movie? S.W: RETURN OF THE EWOK was a short film made during the shooting of RETURN OF THE JEDI by David Tomblin, who died last year after a long and distinguished career as a First Assistant Director (1st ADs are the guys with the very loud voices on set). The first I heard about it, was when I was getting out of the Max Rebo costume, while there was a 20 minute break in shooting to reset the camera. I was asked if I'd mind staying behind in the lunchbreak, as David was filming a special project of his own. It was to feature Warwick (Davis) - who was at that time a young lad, doing his first film - and I assumed it was some kind of charity thing. The direction of the scene was that Warwick would enter the set (Jabba's Palace) to be faced with all the creatures you see there in the film, but all completely still, as if turned to stone. At a certain point Warwick accidentally presses one of the keys on Max's organ, and I sprang into life, playing the music as the rest of the band come to life. A sort of fairytale, magical scene. So the character I played was, again, Max Rebo. There were other scenes on other lunchtimes, which I didn't know much about, but this was very short and done quite quickly. I didn't mind missing my lunch break as there are always long gaps in filming, and it's possible to snack at other times. Over the years I often wondered what had happened to the film, and whether it had been completed. I didn't even know its title. Then in 2005, I was at a a Star Wars charity event organised by the 501st Legion in the UK (at the Space Museum in Leicester) and it was being shown. So I finally got to see it some 20+ years later. SWCP: you held a short film (The Right Man).Can you summarized this movie for us? S.W: World Premiere at DragonCon - which is a big Sci Fi/Fantasy Convention in Atlanta, Georgia - so I went there as both a Star Wars signer and as a filmmaker. The story is not Sci Fi or Fantasy, but a rites of passage story about a young man who is eager to learn how to become a card-sharp. However, he gets overconfident and cocky and is taught a lesson - not so much a lesson in cards as in life. It's a little under 18 minutes long. I have some stills and a synopsis on the website www.fantasyridge.co.uk and I think there's also a link on my Star Wars/Dark Crystal signing site: www.simonjwilliamson.co.uk). There's is a short extract on imdb.com. It was set in Wales, so two of the festivals it played were the Cardiff Screen Festival, and Swansea Bay International Film Festival where it was up for 2 awards. It was made in 2004, so it's about time I made another one and, indeed, I do have a full length screenplay which I'm trying to get backing for. There's both a UK and US version, and the US version (called THE HOGSWOOD INCIDENT) received an award at an LA screenplay competition a couple of year back. It's a comedy about an actor who appears in a low budget film, which indirectly causes a series of other disasters in his life. It's a little like Martin Scorcese's AFTER HOURS in tone. SWCP:how it was your experience in Star Wars:the return of the Jedi? S.W:Because of my work on DARK CRYSTAL, which we had finished shooting at the same studio about 6 months before, I was already known to them. My name was passed around when they decided that they were going to have creature-heavy sequences in the movie, such as Jabba's Palace - so they asked me to get involved. While we were shooting it was called "REVENGE" OF THE JEDI - and I was originally hired just as a puppeteer. They hired a separate group of mimes, such as Sean Crawford, Tim Dry and Gerald Home, but gradually the two puppeteers and mimes came together, and we all played Mon Calamaris. Max Rebo was less of a puppet than a body suit and was great fun to play. Such a shame I could see virtually nothing inside the suit, and I also had to have an earpiece so that I could receive direction during each shot. A little later, a couple of us puppeteers (myself and Hugh Spight) pushed ourselves forward to play Gamorrean Guards, as the actors they had been using were fainting on set. As Hugh and I had worked on DARK CRYSTAL, we were well used to coping with the heat and energy-sapping nature of being inside heavy creature costumes. So we did the main Gamorrean Guards in JEDI from that point onwards. It also meant my contract on the film was extended twice more, as there was much more work to do. It was a great job, not as long, as intense or as varied as the work on DARK CRYSTAL, but I'm proud to have been part of something as huge and longlasting as Star Wars. SWCP: in this movie,one of the characters that you played the Gartogg a gamorrean guard,who was eaten by the Rancor monster;though this monster was not real,it must have been a bit intimidating to be stuck in its claws? S.W: Well, it was only me in shot in the close-ups and medium shots, and I had to react to a Rancor who wasn't there at the time (it would be processed in afterwards). I didn't even know what the monster would look like, only its size. I performed the sequence leading up to the Gamorrean Guard being grabbed and eaten - and the acting had to be "big" and melodramatic as, in order to allow any performance to register on camera, through the thick and heavy costume, every movement had to be exagerrated, otherwise it wouldn't show. In fact, when I trying to escape from the Rancor, my Gamorrean shoe fell off and was dangling around my ankles as I tried to scramble up the chute to freedom. Meanwhile, I while making large, exagerrated panicking gestures (the sound department added the squealing pig noises later, but I was doing them at the time, anyway - to keep in character). It must have looked and sounded ridiculous to the crew. In fact it was so ridiculous that it set me off laughing madly inside the costume. It suddenly struck me how absurd this was: the overacting, the missing shoe, the muffled squealing... while trying to escape from something that wasn't there. Luckily, my increasingly uncontrollable laughter wasn't big enough to register through the layers of green foam rubber of the Gamorrean Guard - so nobody knew but me. SWCP: what message would you like to leave for the portuguese fans of Star Wars? S.W:So, I hope my answers will provide the Portuguese Star Wars fans with an interesting insight into my work of the 1980's. If there is a convention planned in Portugal in 2011, do remember to invite me, as I'm not far away (in England) and I have never visited Portugal. SWCP: fale-nos um pouco acerca da sua participação em Star Wars

J.B:fui convidado a comparecer a uma entrevista para a parte relacionada com o Boba Fett no

"Império contra ataca"(episódio V).Felizmente o traje serviu-me na perfeição;foi-me dito que era apenas uma parte e apenas por alguns dias de trabalho.Eu seria depois chamado novamente para voltar a desempenhar o meu papel no "Regresso de Jedi".Também fiz o papel do Tenente Sheckil no episódio V,já que não havia mais ninguém para fazer esse personagem;finalmente fui convidado para desempenhar o papel do Capitão Colton em "A vingança dos Sith".

SWCP:Boba Fett é sem dúvida o personagem mais popular que encarnou até agora?

J.B:penso que esse personagem se tornou muito popular,principalmente devido ao seu magnífico traje e ao mistério que o envolvia.

SWCP: editou um livro intitulado "Flying Solo"que se não estamos enganados ,decorreu durante a 2ª grande guerra .Que motivos o levaram a escrever um livro acerca dessa época tão conturbada?

J.B: na verdade,eu escrevi um livro chamado "Flying Solo"que fala sobre a minha vida e carreira como actor,abrangendo igualmente todos os meus filmes,televisão e trabalho no palco.O livro está entrelaçado com as histórias das muitas convenções de Star Wars em que tenho participado por todo o mundo.É um livro de edição limitada a apenas duas mil cópias,cada uma numerada e assinada,não tem nada a ver com a 2ª guerra mundial,além do facto de que nasci no final dessa guerra.

SWCP: como foi voltar a desempenhar novamente o papel de um personagem da saga no episódio III,volvidos alguns anos após a sua última participação em Star Wars?

J.B: foi óptimo ter estado nas rodagens de Star Wars outra vez e de me encontrar com o George Lucas.

SWCP: deve ser dos actores de Star Wars que tem sido mais requisitado para aparecer em convenções e eventos.O que pensa acerca disso?

J.B: sinto-me muito honrado a cada vez que sou convidado para um país diferente.Tenho tido a sorte de visitar o Brasil,Chile,México,Porto Rico,para citar apenas alguns países.

SWCP: já alguma vez visitou Portugal?

J.B: nunca fui a Portugal,apesar de visitar muitas vezes o meu filho que vive em Espanha.

SWCP: que mensagem gostaria de deixar aos fãs portugueses de Star Wars?

J.B: olá a todos os fãs de Star Wars em Portugal,espero que um dia possa visitar o vosso maravilhoso país-eu sou um grande fã do futebol português!

SWCP:tell us a little more about your involvement in Star Wars

J.B:I was asked to attend an interview for the part of Boba Fett in 'The Empire Strikes Back' Luckily the costume fitted exactly. I was told it was just a small part and only a few days work. I was then asked back to reprise my role in 'Return of the Jedi' I also played Lt. Sheckil in Empire as there was no one else available to play it. Finally I was asked to play the cameo role of 'Captain Colton' in 'Revenge of the Sith'.

SWCP: Boba Fett is undoubtedly the most popular character who incarnate so far?

J.B: I think the character has become very popular mainly due to the magnificent costume and the mystery surrounding him.

SWCP: you edited a book called "Flying Solo" whose action takes place during the 2 nd world war.What reasons led you to write a book about this so troubled season?

J.B: I actually wrote a book called 'Flying Solo' which is about my early life and career as an actor. It also covers all my film, TV and stage work. The book is interwoven with stories from the many Star Wars conventions I have attended all over the world. It is a limited edition book of only 2000 copies, each one signed and numbered. It has nothing at all to do with the 2nd World War apart from the fact that I was born at the end of the war.

SWCP: how it was back to play the role of a character in the saga again (episode III)ware a few years after your last attendance at Star Wars?

J.B: It was great to be on the Star Wars set again and to meet up with George Lucas.

SWCP: you must be one of the SW actors that has been most requested to appear at events and

conventions.What do you think about that?

J.B: I feel very honoured each time I am invited to a different country. I have been lucky enough to visit Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Puerto Rica to mention but a few countries.

SWCP: have you ever visited Portugal?

J.B:I have never been to Portugal although my son lives in Spain and we visit there often.

SWCP: what message would you like to leave for the portuguese fans of Star Wars?

J.B: Hello all Star Wars fans in Portugal, hopefully one day I will get to visit your wonderful country - I am a great fan of Portugese football!

M.O:acho que viajando ao redor do mundo deu-me muita exposição a outras culturas , línguas,e no caminho da vida em geral,tornou-me mais independente.Acostumei-me a lidar com diferentes tipos de pessoas;então,quando eu me envolvi com as profissões de modelo e actriz (que são campos diferentes aos que eu estudei),foi emocionante e desafiador,em relação ao meu passado. SWCP: já que é natural de um país africano(Quénia),pode dizer-nos se tem havido algum feedback por parte dos fãs de Star Wars que residem em África?é que temos muito pouca informação acerca dos fãs africanos. M.O: sim!absolutamente,eu tive uma grande apresentação num jornal nacional(Nation)e estava totalmente assolada pelo feedback dos fãs africanos em África e fora dela também.Lembro-me de alguns amigos e familiares dizendo-me que quando foi exibido no cinema "A Vingança dos Sith"que os bilhetes estavam sempre esgotados.Eles são muito encorajadores e dão-me muito apoio. SWCP: está actualmente a trabalhar com refugiados na Austrália.Pode falar-nos um pouco acerca disso? M.O: tenho trabalhado com refugiados na Austrália e fui um oficial da resolução para os refugiados.O que tinha de fazer era ajudar os refugiados recém-chegados à Austrália a se estabelecerem em Sidney.Se fôsse uma família,nós ajudávamos a registar os seus filhos nas escolas,ajudar nos trabalhos de casa(TPC)e nas dificuldades da linguagem;se era só um indivíduo,ajudávamo-lo a obter emprego , cuidados médicos,aconselhamento de trauma,serviços de tradução ao telefone,bem como saber usar o sistema de transportes públicos.Basicamente ajudávamos eles a terem acesso aos serviços sociais.Às vezes,temos de localizar parentes noutros países que podem estar detidos ou em campos de refugiados e gostamos de trabalhar com outras organizações internacionais.Resolvemos muito rapidamente a situação da maioria dos refugiados.Assim,este tipo de trabalho pode ser feito por toda a Europa(incluindo os países escandinavos),E.U.A,Japão,Austrália,Canadá ,enfim,em qualquer lugar onde os refugiados sejam instalados e precisem de uma integração na comunidade.Quando estou em África,envolvo-me em acções de caridade que fornecem acesso médico às comunidades rurais;eles ensinam à população local a realizar ultra-sons e raios-x e em seguida,eles mandam as imagens por e-mail aos radiologistas qualificados.Desta forma,a população local recebe atendimento médico rápidamente,sem ter de se deslocar vários kms aum hospital.Isso gera emprego para a comunidade,especialmente para os jovens.Colaboro com a ITW (Imaging The World), uma instituição de caridade que treina o pessoal não médico (membros da comunidade) em aldeias remotas em todo o mundo, para realizar exames de ultra-som básico e transmitir imagens através da Internet utilizando celulares tecnologia ou de um local Wi-Fi ligado a um ponto de acesso à internet. As imagens são, então, visto por profissionais voluntários de radiologia. Um e-mail ou de texto (SMS) de resumo é então automaticamente e imediatamente enviados de volta para a comunidade rural. SWCP: Luminara Unduli foi a personagem que encarnou em Star Wars.Como foi essa experiência em trabalhar para este filme? M.O: fazer o papel da Luminara Unduli,foi uma grande experiência para mim!tenho conhecido muitos actores profissionais e ser parte de uma "lenda".Foi inacreditável e muito divertido.Desde que me acostumei a conhecer gente nova e diferente e de visitar lugares novos,representando um personagem com um traje e maquilhagem original foi bastante impressionante.Mas depois de conhecer todos os fãs e as convenções de Star Wars,vestir o traje da Luminara no episódio III,teve um significado ainda maior para mim. SWCP: devem haver alguns pontos em comum entre o mundo da moda e do cinema,como a maquilhagem,por exemplo... M.O: sério?LOL.Bem,em termos de fundamento,sim,as camadas de maquilhagem aplicadas são bastante semelhantes para se estar em frente às câmaras;voçê necessita definitivamente de uma maquilhagem perfeita e não pode ser apenas uma camada fina,tem de ser precisa,de outro modo qualquer erro será mostrado.A maquilhadora que trabalhou comigo(Leslie)foi muito boa.Ela também trabalhou com a Natalie Portman(a sua maquilhagem era ao meu lado)assim,Leslie colocava abase e em seguida ela iria colocar o spray e o eye-liner;parecem ser passos muito simples,mas levou algum tempo para fazer uma tese perfeita,nada pode estar fora do lugar. SWCP: tem em mente participar em mais algum projecto relacionado com Star Wars? M.O: bem,muitas pessoas vieram ter comigo para fazer um monte de coisas depois de conhecerem o meu nome no episódio II!mas ultimamente,tenho feito dobragem de voz para a Luminara Unduli.Estou entusiasmada com isso porque acho que a voz também é muito divertida de fazer.Acho que fazer parte da série animada de Star Wars na tv,é também excelente.Fora disso,faço jóias para homens,mulheres ,crianças e também para animais de estimação(tenho a minha própria linha de joalharia,"Style jewelry by Mary Oyaya")e vendo-a para boas causas,doando os lucros para instituições de caridade diferentes.É algo que adoro fazer. SWCP: considera-se de algum modo uma embaixadora de África? M.O: isso seria óptimo...quem sabe?mas eu ficaria feliz por ser um.Seria um grande previlégio. SWCP: being daughter of UN diplomats, you must have traveled around the world since very early.Do you think this fact had influence on your career as a model and actress? M.O: I think traveling around the world gave me a lot of exposure to other cultures and languages, way of life and generally made me a more independent individual. I got used to dealing with different kinds of people. So, when I got involved with modeling and acting, (which are different fields from what I studied), it was exciting and challenging given my background. SWCP: since you are born in an African country(Kenya),can you tell us whether there has been some feedback from Star Wars fans who residing in Africa? we have little information about African SW fans. M.O: Yes! Absolutely, I had a big feature in the national newspaper (Nation) and I was totally overwhelmed by feedback from African fans in Africa and outside of Africa as well. I remember my friends and family telling me that when Revenge of the Sith showed, the tickets were always SOLD OUT. They are very encouraging and supportive. SWCP: you are currently working with refugees in Australia. Could you tell us a little more about this? M.O: I have worked with Refugees in Australia, and I was a Refugee settlement officer. What I had to do was assist the recently arrived refugees in Australia to settle down in Sydney. If it was a family, we would help them register their kids into schools, assist with homework, coz of language difficulties, or if it was an individual, help them to get employment and medical care, trauma counseling, translation services on the phone, as well as know how to use the public transport system. So, we would basically help them access the available social services. Sometimes, we would need to trace relatives in other countries who may be in detention or Refugee camps, and we would work with other International organizations. Most of the Refugees would settle in quite quickly.So, this sort of work can be done all over Europe and Scandinavian countries, USA, Japan , Australia , Canada, anywhere that Refugees are resettled and need integration into the community.When I’m in Africa, I get involved with a charity that provides medical access to rural communities. They train the local population in performing ultrasound and x-ray scans, then e-mail the images to the qualified radiographers. This way, the local population gets fast medical care without having to travel for miles to a hospital. This also provides employment for the community, especially the youth. When I’m in Africa, I get involved with ITW (Imaging The World),a charity that trains non-medical personnel (community members) in remote villages around the world, to perform basic ultrasound scans and transmit images via the internet using cellular technology or a local Wi-Fi connected to an internet access point. The images are then viewed by volunteer radiology professionals. An email or text (SMS) summary is then automatically and immediately sent back to the rural community. SWCP: Luminara Unduli was the character that you embodying in Star Wars. How it was the experience in working for this movie? M.O: Playing Luminara Unduli was a great experience for me! I got to meet many professional actors, and be part of a “Legend”. It was unbelievable and a lot of fun. Since I am used to meeting new and different people going to new places, acting out a character in a unique costume and make-up was quite impressive. But after I met all the fans and knew more about the SW conventions and stuff, wearing Luminara costume for Episode III was much more meaningful for me. SWCP: there must be some common ground between the world of fashion and cinema, such as makeup, for example... M.O: Really? LOL . Well, in terms of foundation, yes, the layers are quite the same coz to be in front of the camera you definitely need perfect make-up and it can’t be just a thin layer. It has to be precise otherwise any little mistake will show. The make-up artist who worked on me (Leslie) was very good. She worked on Natalie Portman (her make-up station was next to mine). So, Leslie would put on the foundation, and then she would put on the spray and the eyeliner. They seem very simple steps, but it took time to do it perfectly coz nothing can be out of place. SWCP: have you in mind some kind of participation in a project related to Star Wars? M.O: Well, many people came up to me to do a lot of things, after they knew my name in EPII ! But lately, I have a voice over gig for a Luminara character. I’m excited about this, coz I think voice is also a lot of fun to do. But, I think being part of the Star Wars Live action TV series would be great too. Other than that, I make Jewelry, for men, women, kids and pets (I am a have my own jewelry line, Style Jewelry by Mary Oyaya), and I sell it for a cause and donate the proceeds to different charities. It’s something I love to do. SWCP: have considered an ambassador of Africa? M.O: That would be great…who knows? But I would be happy to be one. I think it would be great privilege. SWCP: what message do you like to send for the Portuguese fans of Star Wars? M.O: I am much honored to do this interview for SW fans in Portugal. I have never been to Portugal through my many travels, so it would be great for me to visit Portugal, and interact with the fans. I know Portugal has a lot of history (Vasco da Gama) I’m sure there are good museums and historical sites. It would also be great to taste Portuguese cuisine!! O actor e duplo queniano de origem indiana Kiran Shah mais conhecido por Little Kiran,foi viver para a Índia com a sua família aos 12 anos de idade,começando a interessar-se pelos filmes e quando a sua família se mudou para Londres,ele começou a envolver-se no show business do cinema.Este actor já participou em diversos filmes Blockbusters tais como:Superman I e II,Indiana Jones,Aliens(1986)Senhor dos Anéis(foi o duplo do Mr Frodo)As Crónicas de Nárnia,entre outros.Em Star Wars participou como Ewok no episódio VI.

SWCP:como foi a sua participação em Star Wars?

K.S:diverti-me a trabalhar em Star Wars.A minha participação surgiu devido ao facto de eu poder fazer cenas de duplos,bem como actuar com um disfarce.Pouco antes de Star Wars eu tinha feito um filme chamado "Dark Crystal"onde estava a ajudar no movimento de pessoas pequenas disfarçadas e também na actuação e trabalho de duplo.

SWCP: sabemos que além de actor é também poeta.Como surgiu essa sua outra faceta artística bastante diferente da que costuma fazer no cinema?

K.S:para mim,escrever poesia é também uma forma de expressão que aconteceu naturalmente quando eu era jovem e gostava de escrever o que queria dizer em forma de poesia.Á medida que fui envelhecendo,o meu interesse em escrever transformou-se no que estava a acontecer à minha volta,na política mundial,nas crenças das pessoas questionando essas mesmas crenças,guerras e assim por diante.Pode ler alguns desses poemas no meu website:

SWCP:fundou em 2004 a sua própria companhia intitulada "Little Kiran Productions".Pode falar-nos um pouco acerca dessa empresa?

K.S: a ideia por trás deste empreendimento é fazer filmes de baixo orçamento.Estou envolvido com o meu manager Kit,numa curta-metragem chamada "Still Living"e também numa longa-metragem"Weekend Lovers"que está quase concluída.Esperamos fazer mais no futuro.

SWCP: acha que (sem questionar o talento dos actores)os actores de baixa estatura têm mais hipóteses de conseguir papéis em filmes de humor ou fantasia do que em filmes dramáticos?

K.S: há mais hipóteses de as pessoas pequenas conseguirem papéis neste tipo de filmes porque somos vistos sob um olhar diferente.No drama ou romance que são baseados na vida real e a realidade é o quotidiano da maioria das pessoas que não conseguem contactar ou interagir com pessoas diferentes.

SWCP: está registado no Guiness World Record como o duplo-profissional mais pequeno a trabalhar no cinema desde Outubro de 2003 e este ano bateu o record do mais pequeno "Wing Walker"onde se manteve durante 10 minutos preso a um biplano.O que pensa acerca disso?é um homem dos recordes?

K.S: o recorde mundial do Guiness para o duplo mais pequeno a trabalhar na actualidade,surgiu acerca de eu e o Kit querermos saber se existia mais alguém pequeno como eu a trabalhar como duplo.Quanto ao record do mais pequeno "Wing Walker" para o Guiness,surgiu enquanto conversava com amigos acerca de o que poderia fazer para me divertir e que poderia ser contado como trabalho de duplo.Não foi planeado como um record a bater,apenas aconteceu e eu estou feliz por ter conseguido isso como um record mundial do Guiness.Nâo sou um homem de recordes e como tal,não pretendo quebrar ou ir atrás de todos os recordes.

SWCP: que mensagem gostaria de deixar aos seus fãs em Portugal?

K.S: primeiro quero dizer olá e obrigado a todos os meus fãs em Portugal.A minha mensagem para os fãs é que sejam felizes e gozem a vida.

SWCP: how it was your participation in Star Wars?

K.S: I had fun working on Star Wars. My participation came about because I could do stunts as well as perform in costume. Just before Star Wars I had done a film call Dark Crystal where I was assisting in movement for little people in costume and also performing and stunts.

SWCP: we know that besides actor/stuntman,you are also a poet.How emerged that artistic facet of yours,quite different from the others who usually do in the movies?

K.S: For me writing poetry is a form of expression that just happened naturally when I was young and enjoyed writing as I can say what I liked in poetry form. As I started getting older my interest in writing changed into what was happening in my surroundings and me i.e. World Politics, people beliefs, questioning this beliefs and about wars and so on. SWCP:founded in 2004,your own enterprise called"Little Kiran Productions".Could you tell us a little more about this your business?

K.S:The idea behind this venture is to make low budget films. I am involved with my manager Kit and we have made a short film call “Still Living” and also a feature length film “Weekend Lovers” which is nearly completed. We hoped to do more in future.

SWCP: do you think that(without questioning the talent) the actors of short stature,have more probability of getting roles in fiction/fantasy and comedy movies than drama/romance?

K.S: There is more probability for little people of getting roles in this kind of films as we are seen in different light. In drama or romance which is based on reality and the reality is that in everyday life most of the people do not come into contact or do not get to interact with little people. We are always seen as different people.

SWCP: you are a "Guiness World Records" holder as the shortest stunt professional currently working in movies since October,2003.And this year,you broke the record of the smallest "wing walker"to keep yourself stuck in a biplane for 10 minutes.What do you think about it?are you a "Records Man"?

K.S: The Guinness World Record for the Shortest Stunt Man currently working came about as Kit and I wanted to find out if there is anyone shorter then myself in the stunts. As for the smallest wing walker Guinness World Record came about while talking with friends what I could do for fun that could be counted as stunts. It wasn’t planned as a record it just happened and I am happy to get this as a Guinness World Record. I am not a records man as such, I don’t plan to break or go after any records.

SWCP: what message would you like to leave for your fans in Portugal?

K.S: First I want to say Hi and Thank You to all my fans in Portugal. My message to fans is be happy and enjoy life.

De ascendência israelita,a bela actriz e modelo Orli Shoshan,serviu no exército israelita durante quase dois anos quando completou 18 anos de idade.Tendo trabalhado posteriormente como agente de segurança nas linhas aéreas "El-Al"em Chicago,resolveu viajar pelo mundo que é uma das suas paixões.Em 1997 mudou-se para a Austrália onde começou a trabalhar como modelo e actriz para várias revistas e comerciais e num popular show de aeróbica da televisão.Em 2002 e 2005 protagonizou a Mestre Jedi Shaak Ti nos episódios II e III de Star Wars.Conhecemos a Orli através da rede social Facebook,onde ela nos concedeu gentilmente esta entrevista.

SWCP: serviu durante dois anos no exército israelita.Tirou algum tipo de ensinamento ou experiência que a ajudaram posteriormente na sua carreira de modelo e actriz?

O.S: ser um actor e modelo tem um monte de disciplina e árduo trabalho ético.Servindo no exército durante dois anos,certamente que incutiu em mim essas duas características;eu também comecei a trabalhar com artilharia bem como combate corpo-a-corpo o que ajuda quando se faz filmes de ficção científica.

SWCP: onde se sente mais à vontade?no mundo da moda ou na indústria cinematográfica?

O.S: honestamente,ambos são igualmente importantes para mim.Eu adoro estar nas filmagens,bem como projectar novas linhas de roupas ou joalharia.

SWCP: tem noção de que a personagem Shaak Ti lhe deu uma ainda maior projecção a nível internacional?

O.S: trabalhando em Star Wars deu-me definitivamente mais exposição e abriu-me muitas portas na indústria do entretenimento e da moda.Nunca em um milhão de anos poderia ter sonhado que seria uma parte de algo tão especial,como ícone de Star Wars.Estou extremamente grata por tudo o que me tem surgido,como resultado de participar nos filmes.

SCWP: é uma mulher muito viajada,tendo já vivido e trabalhado em diversos países.Já esteve em Portugal?

O.S: nunca estive,mas estou muito entusiasmada em o visitar futuramente!

SWCP: esteve recentemente na C2E2 em Chicago.O que acha deste tipo de eventos?

O.S:sim,a convenção C2E2 foi muito divertida.Consegui ver muitos amigos dos filmes,bem como conhecer novos fãs;adoro participar em eventos,porque me dão a oportunidade de interagir com os fãs.É um sentimento óptimo saber que sou uma parte das suas vidas,de alguma maneira.

SWCP: quie mensagem gostaria de deixar ao nosso clube e a todos os fãs portugueses de Star Wars?

Israeli descent,the beautiful model and actress Orli Shoshan,served in israeli army for almost two years when she completed 18 years of age.Having worked as a security officer at "El-Al"airlines in Chicago,she decided to travel the world then that is one of his passions.In 1997,she moved to Australia where began working as a model and actress for several magazines and commercials and for a popular aerobics show on television.In 2002 and 2005 starred the role of Master Jedi Shaak Ti in episodes II and III of Star Wars.

SWCP:you served during almost two years,in the israeli arm.Have you some kind of teaching or experience that have helped you in your career of model and actress,later?

O.S: Being an actor and model takes a lot of discipline and hard work ethic. Going through the army for two years definitely instilled in me both of these traits. I also got to work with artillary as well as hand to hand combat which helps when doing sci-fi films.

SWCP: where do you feel most confortable?in fashion or in the film industry?

O.S: Honestly, both are eaqually important to me. I love being on-camera as well as designing new lines of clothes or jewlery.

SWCP: have you the notion that this character(Shaak Ti) gave you an even greater international projection?

O.S: Working on Star Wars definitely gave me more exposure, and has opened many doors in the entertainment and fashion industry. I never in a million years could have dreamed that I would be a part of something as iconic and special as Star Wars. I am extremely thankful for everything that has come my way as a result of being in the films.

SWCP: you are a very well-traveled person.Have lived and worked in several countries.Ever you been in Portugal?

O.S: I haven't, but am very excited to visit in the future!

SWCP: you were been recently at C2E2 in Chicago.What do you think about this kind of events?

O.S: Yes, the C2E2 convention was a lot of fun. I got to see many of my friends from the films, as well as meet new fans. I love doing the events because it gives me an opportunity to interact with the fans. Its a great feeling knowing that I am a part of their lives in some small way.

SWCP: what message would you like to leave for our club and to the portuguese fans of Star Wars?

O.S: Thank you to all of the fans in Portugal! You are all wonderful, and I can't wait to see some of you at future conventions! Keep doing what makes you happy, and following your dreams!

SWCP: em que área gosta mais de trabalhar?cinema,teatro,tv? G.H: eu gosto é de trabalhar.Qualquer área de negócios serve.Mas se tiver escolha,é a filmagem;apesar dos longos tempos de espera nos bastidores,ainda gosto da intimidade em frente às câmaras.Em seguida,gosto realmente de dirigir os actores lendo os nossos livros-áudio e de ter a oportunidade de trabalhar com esplêndidos artistas neste domínio,como Ian McKellen,Julie Walters,Hugh Laurie,Miriam Margolyes e muitos outros. SWCP: sentiu-se decepcionado por as cenas em Tosche Station terem sido cortadas na versão final do episódio IV? G.H: naturalmente desejaria que a cena em Anchorhead fosse incluída em Star Wars:"uma nova esperança".É uma boa cena,bem escrita e dá-te mais informação acerca do Luke e dos seus amigos,mas dura cerca de quatro minutos e a acção mantém-se com o C3PO e o R2D2.Muitos dos fãs já a viram;na verdade,um fã perguntou:"é a cena mais famosa da história do cinema?"bem,cenas foram cortadas de filmes famosos,o tempo todo. SWCP: porque é que o seu personagem Biggs Darklighter,ficou conhecido como um dos "heróis de Yavin"? G.H: Biggs Darklighter foi o mentor do Luke Skywalker no roteiro original.Ele juntou-se à legião rebelde muito cedo e queria que o Luke deixasse a fazenda e que se juntasse a ele.Biggs tem experiência e é um dos melhores pilotos.Eu cobri o Luke mas fui abatido(ataque à Death Star).Quando vimos o 1º script,Mark e eu pensámos que a morte do Biggs foi heróica-um mártir para a causa.Mas acho que preferia ter sobrevivido,como o Wedge. SWCP: participou em 1972 na série `Doctor Who´.Que diferenças nota em relação à série mais actual que teve início em 2005? G.H: o meu papel como Ky em `Os Mutantes´era forte e emocionante.Acabámos por fazer o comentário para o novo lançamento do DVD da série.Assistindo à série novamente,Katy Manning e eu estávamos espantados como o enredo foi relevante para hoje e para os efeitos especiais,eram originais e muito eficazes,considerando-se há quanto tempo ela foi feita.A última série tem efeitos incríveis e ritmo de desempenho. SWCP: tendo já trabalhado com diversos actores consagrados como por exemplo,Sir Lawrence Olivier ou Angela Lansbury,tem alguma preferência em especial? In english: the british actor Garrick Hagon has a vast career in movies,television and theater.Also uses his voice in commercials,narration,audio-books and cartoons.He participated in Star Wars(episode IV) in the role of the X-Wing pilot Biggs Darklighter,childhood friend of Luke Skywalker. SWCP:in what area do you like more to work? movies,theater,tv... G.H: I like to work. Any area of the business will do. But if I have a choice, it's filming. In spite of the long waiting times on set, I still like the intimate work in front of camera. Next, I really enjoy directing actors reading our audiobooks and have had the opportunity to work with splendid artists in this field such as Ian McKellen, Julie Walters, Hugh Laurie and Miriam Margolyes and many others. SWCP: have you become disappointed with the scenes shot in Tosch Station,because they were cut in the final of the episode IV? G.H: Naturally I wish the Anchorhead scene was included in 'Star Wars: A New Hope'. It's a good scene, well written and gives you more background on Luke and his friends. But it takes 4 minutes and more and holds up the action with C3PO and R2D2. Lots of fans have seen it; in fact, one fan asked 'Is it the most famous cut scene in film history?' Well, hardly; scenes are cut from famous films all the time. SWCP: why is your character(Biggs Darklighter) became known as "one of the heroes of Yavin"? G.H: Biggs Darklighter was Luke's mentor in the original script. He has joined the Rebel Legion early and wants Luke to leave the farm and join up with him. Biggs has experience and is an ace pilot. I cover for Luke but am shot down. When we first saw the script, Mark and I thought Biggs' death was heroic--a martyr for the cause. But I think I would rather have survived, like Wedge. SWCP: you took part in the 1972 series "Doctor Who".What differences you noticed more in relation to the most current series that began in 2005? G.H: My role as Ky in 'The Mutants' was strong and exciting. We have just done the commentary for the new release of the DVD of the series. Watching the series again Katy Manning and I both were amazed at how relevant the storyline was for today and the special effects were original and very effective, considering how long ago it was made. The latest series have incredible effects and also incredible verve and pace in performance. SWCP: having already worked with several devoted actors like Sir Lawrence Olivier or Angela Lansbury,for example,have you any preference? G.H: To work with great actors like Sir Lawrence and Angela Lansbury and many more in other projects such as Christopher Plummer, Paul Schofield, Charlton Heston, Robert Redford, Antony Quinn and Richard Widmark has been a great privilege and I hope I learned from them. There is no way I could list them in order of preference. SWCP: we know that you have visited our country and even here some friends.What do you like most in Portugal? G.H: My wife, Liza Ross, and I were entertained by wonderful friends in Lisbon and loved it all, the restaurants by the harbour, the art galleries, the fado and the streetcars. Then we had a terrific weekend in Sintra. SWCP: what message would you like to leave for our club and all portuguese fans of Star Wars? A actriz,cantora e actualmente professora de Yoga ,Mercedes Ngoh,nasceu em Ottawa,Canadá;sendo a sua mãe espanhola e o seu pai africano,Mercedes possui um belo e exótico visual.Aos dezoito anos de idade,mudou-se para Sº Francisco onde começou a estudar actuação e canto.Foi a bailarina Rystall no Palácio do Jabba no episódio VI de Star Wars.O SWCP teve direito a esta pequena entrevista em exclusivo ,inclusivé com foto assinada com dedicatória.

SWCP: como foi a sua experiência em Star Wars?

M.N: a minha experiência foi incrível,obrigado.Foi há algum tempo e agora a minha vida mudou muito desde então,mas ainda é algo que eu olho para trás com carinho e muita felicidade por tê-la experimentado.

SWCP: tendo actualmente uma carreira como professora de Yoga muito ocupada,acha que ainda poderá vir a trabalhar novamente na indústria cinematográfica?

M.N: estou realmente super ocupada,trabalhando de momento na Yoga Health World e a par de ensinar Yoga às pessoas e escrever artigos,filmo DVDS e gravo músicas de Yoga.Por isso acho que é ainda negócio de entretenimento,mas apenas de uma melhor maneira,muito mais calma.Também estou a desenvolver alguns projectos de media relacionados com o Yoga e a saúde e adoro o que faço,por isso não estou à procura de fazer filmes,apesar de continuar em frente às câmaras.

SWCP: tem participado em diversas convenções de Star Wars.Gostaria de vir a Portugal,caso fôsse convidada para eventos desse tipo no nosso país?

M.N: claro! eu nunca visitei o vosso país,mas ouvi dizer que é espantoso!

SWCP: qual é o seu episódio de SW preferido?e porquê?

M.N: bem,eu teria de dizer que é o ROTJ(O Regresso de Jedi) porque foi nesse que eu entrei!

SWCP: sabemos que a sua mais recente paixão é ensinar Yoga .Quando e porque é que começou a praticar esta "filosofia de vida"?

M.N: comecei a praticar Yoga anos atrás,quando morava em Los Angeles e estava a trabalhar no negócio da música.Apaixonei-me por isso, e quanto mais praticava,mais o adorava.Gradualmente fui praticando os ensinamentos,e sempre digo às pessoas que eu não trabalho,eu ensino,porque não é um trabalho para mim,mas sim um modo de vida.Eu agora amo o Yoga e a vida !

The actress,singer and Yoga´s teacher Mercedes Ngoh,was born in Ottawa,Canada.Being his spanish mother and african father,Mercedes has a beautiful and exotic look.At 18 years old,she moved to San Francisco where she began to study acting and singing.She was the dancer Rystall in the Jabba´s Palace in Star Wars:episode VI.The SWCP had the right for a small exclusive interview ,including a signed photo with a dedication.

SWCP: how was your experience in Starwars?

M.N: My experience was amazing thank you. It was awhile ago now and my life and changed a lot since then but it is still something I look back on fondly and really happy to have experienced it.

SWCP: having currently a career as a singer too busy,do you think that you can still come to work again in the movie business?

M.N: I am actually super busy working in the yoga/health world at the moment and alongside teaching yoga to people and writing articles, I film yoga DVD’s and record yoga music so it is still entertainment business related but just in a much nicer, more calm way. I am also developing a few yoga/health media projects and love what I do so I am not looking to do movies right now but am still working in front of the camera.

SWCP: have participated in several Starwars conventions,would you like to come to Portugal,if invited to an event of this kind in our country?

M.N: of course! I have never been but hear it’s amazing!

SWCP: what is your favorite episode of Starwars,and why?

M.N: Well I would have to say ROTJ because that’s the one I am in!

SWCP: we know that your latest passion is teaching Yoga.When and why did you start practicing this "Philosophy of life"?

M.N: I started practicing Yoga years ago when I lived in Los Angeles and was working in the music business. I just fell in love with it and the more I practiced Yoga the more I loved it. Gradually I just moved into teaching. I always tell people I don’t work, I teach because it’s not a job for me but a way of life. I love Yoga and life right now!

SWCP: como foi a experiência de ter participado no mais popular filme de ficção científica de todos os tempos?esperava vir a alcançar tanto êxito?

A.F: lembro-me de ficar entusiasmado por ir filmar na Tunísia.O Inverno e a chuva em Inglaterra estavam a dar a volta à minha cabeça!foi especial,este foi um filme de Hollywood a chegar ao Reino Unido;para um filme de estúdio,sentia-se um clima local de trabalhar com mais gosto num filme independente.Estar envolvido num filme de ficçº científica era natural para mim pois cresci com uma irmã mais velha que era uma leitora viciada neste tipo de ficção;ela leu todos eles e eu nem podia dar a volta à cama com tantas pilhas de livros do género!

eu gosto dos projectos em que estou envolvido para ser bem sucedido e Star Wars entrou numa nova dimensão na escala de medição do sucesso.Mark,Garrick e eu tornámo-nos amigos durante todos estes anos e "Star Wars" tem conseguido manter-nos em contacto.Com a minha música,composição e família,tenho tido ao longo dos anos criado e desenvolvido vários projectos.Os fãs de Star Wars têm sido muito bons em "tirar-me" fora do estúdio,por isso é interessante que o albúm em que estou a trabalhar actualmente,é o resultado do incentivo dos fãs de SW de todo o mundo.

SWCP: é também um músico e compositor,tendo lançado recentemente um CD intitulado"Pantheons of the Tribe".Pode falar um pouco mais acerca deste CD?

A.F: a música do CD é toda uma faixa instrumental inspirada pela história e roteiro que eu escrevi "Phanteons of the Tribe".Situado no futuro,num momento em que as letras foram banidas da música e são vistas como uma ameaça política e social para o Estado de direito,onde um jovem músico tem a sua revolução e letras nas ondas do ar.Então eu decidi gravar algumas músicas-demo para um filme.O albúm é remasterizado,mas é um bom exemplo da primeira música que será gravada com uma orquestra para o filme.

SWCP: gostaria de compor uma música dedicada a Star Wars?

A.F: é engraçado ter me perguntado isso;estou a terminar uma música intitulada "Sonhando"que só poderia ser uma canção apropriada para dedicar a Star Wars e aos seus fãs.Tenho pensado em fazer apresentações ao vivo nos eventos de comics à noite,porque há pouco entretenimento ao vivo em convenções, e o propósito das mesmas é precisamente a diversão e o entretenimento.

SWCP: além do personagem Stormtrooper,interpretou também outro chamado Fixer,em que as cenas com esse personagem foram cortadas.Deram-lhe alguma explicação quanto a isso?fale-nos um pouco mais acerca desse personagem desconhecido.

A.F: na verdade,acho que a diração do filme tinha algo a ver com as cenas que foram cortadas.Essas cenas são normalmente acerca do movimento ao longo da história.Escolhas difíceis são feitas na sala de edição.

O Fixer é um grande amigo do Luke Skywalker e é o encarregado da Toshe Station;ele tem uma namorada,Camie,e é um mecânico.Fixer não está interessado no Império e no que está acontecendo,o seu mundo é a Toshe Station e a sua paisagem circundante.Pelo menos até o Império ter vindo bater à sua porta.Há um lado escuro para ele que é capaz de o usar para o bem.

SWCP: tem quatro filhos(correcto?).Eles também são fãs de SW? já lhe tentaram aplicar em jeito de bincadeira,algum tipo de truque mental Jedi?

A.F: sim,tenho quatro filhos maravilhosos.Alex,Sam,Nathan e Amelia.Acho que o Alex é o maior fã de SW por ser o mais velho,teve a oportunidade de ter os jogos de vídeo primeiro.Os meus filhos sempre fora, capazes de me enganar com truques de mente Jedi;é uma maneira fácil de escaparem aos trabalhos de casa.Gosto de pensar que o Stormtrooper decidiu deixá-los sair,caso contrário,o filme teria terminado ali.

SWCP: contracenou com o saudoso Sir Alec Guiness na famosa cena em que foi vítima de um truque mental Jedi pelo Obiwan Kenobi.Como foi trabalhar com um dos mais conceituados actores desse filme?

A.F: o seu talento como artista era acompanhado pela sua generosidade no trabalho.Anos mais tarde,quando estávamos a trabalhar em diferentes projectos na BBC,gostávamos de falar um com o outro,ele foi muito gentil comigo enquanto eu era ainda um jovem actor.

SWCP: how was the experience of having participated in the most popular science fiction movie?hoped would have such a huge sucess?

A.F: I remember, being excited about about filming in Tunsia. The winter and rain in England was doing my head in. Like all of us I urn for the sun. It was special, this was a Hollywood film coming to the UK. For a studio film, the location atmosphere felt more like working on an independent movie. Being involved in a Sci-Fi film was a natural for me, I grew up with an older sister that is a virosious reader. She read them all. I couldn't get around the bedroom, for the stacks of Sci-Fi paperbacks.I like the projects I am are working on to be successful, and 'Star Wars' entered a whole new dimension in the scale of measuring success. Mark, Garrick and I became friends all those years ago and 'Star Wars' has managed to keep us in touch. With my music, songwriting and family I have been reclusive over the years, creating and developing projects. The' 'Star Wars' fans have been very good at bringing me out of my studio. So its interesting that the album I am working on now is a result of the encouragement from 'Star Wars' fans from around the world.

SWCP: you are also a musician and composer,having recently released a CD titled "Pantheons of the Tribe".Can you tell us a little more about this CD?

A.F: The music on the CD is all but one track instrumental and inspired by the story and screenplay I wrote 'Pantheons of the Tribe'. "Set in the future at a time when lyrics have been banned from music, and are seen as a political and social threat to the rule of law, a young musician takes his revolution and lyrics to the airwaves."So I decided to record some demo-music for the film. The album is unmastered, but a good first example of the music that will be recorded with an orchestra for the film.

SWCP: would you like to compose a song dedicated to Starwars?

A.F: Funny you should ask that question. I am finishing a song entitled 'Dreaming' that just might be an appropriate song to dedicate to 'Star Wars' and 'Star Wars Fans'. I have been thinking of performing live at some of the comic events in the evening, as there is little live entertainment at the conventions, and the subject matter of the convention is all about entertainment or entertainment related.

SWCP: beyond the character Stormtrooper,also plays another character called Fixer,in wich the scenes with this character were cut.? tell us more about this unknown character.

A.F: Actually, I think that the length of the film had something to do with the scenes being cut. Cut scenes are usually about moving the story along. Hard choices are made in the editing room. Fixer is a close friend of Luke's and is in charge of Toshe Station. He has a girlfirend, Camie, and is a mechanic. Fixer is not interested in the Empire and what is going on, his world is Toshe Station and the surrounding landscape. At least until the Empire comes knocking at his door. There is a dark side to Fixer that he is capable of using for good.

SWCP: you have 4 children(correct?).They are also fans of Starwars?have they tried to apply,by a way of a joke,some kind of Jedi mind trick?

A.F: Yes, I have four great children, Alex, Sam, Nathan and Amelia. I think Alex is the favorite for 'Star Wars' being the eldest he got to the video games first. My children have always been able to jedi mind trick me, it an easy way to get out doing homework. I like to think that the Stormtrooper decided to let them go, otherwise the film wold have ended there.

SWCP: you worked with the late Sir Alec Guiness in the famous scene in wich you were the victim of a Jedi mind trick by Obiwan Kenobi.How was working with the most respected actor of this film?

A.F: His talent as an artist is matched by his generousity at work. Years later when we were both working on different projects at the BBC we would chat, he was very kind to me as a young actor.

SWCP: desde muito cedo que Starwars teve influência na tua vida.Porquê?

C.T: vi Starwars pela primeira vez quando tinha três anos de idade com o meu pai e o meu tio.Foi diferente de tudo o que eu alguma vez tinha visto e o filme inspirou a minha imaginação enquanto jovem artista;como a saga cresceu eu também,e quando saiu o "Império contra-ataca"comecei a interessar-me pela arte de Starwars,coleccionando as trading cards"Space Paintings" do Ralph McQuarrie.Ele continua a ser uma forte influência na minha arte até hoje.

SWCP: foste o artista primário da Starwars Kids Magazine e também em livros de Starwars para crianças para a Golden Books e Randomhouse.Como e quando começaste a trabalhar para essas editoras?

C.T: comecei a minha carreira de artista oficial de Starwars em 1995,trabalhando no SW Roleplaying Game pela West end Games.Quando me formei na faculdade em 1996,comecei a procurar trabalho de Starwars noutras companhias e contactei a Starwars Insider;eles estavam ainda a começar a planear a nova revista Starwars Kids para a Scholastic.Precisavam de artistas e gostaram do meu trabalho;tive sorte e o meu timing foi perfeito.

Deram-me para começar,a arte para os cabeçalhos dos artigos regulares e eu continuei com quatro novas ilustrações em cada número da revista:tabela de conteúdos,arte do personagem principal,e dois Aliens.Enquanto estava a trabalhar na Starwars Kids,fui contactado pela Golden Books para ilustrar" Meltdown em Hoth".Eles tinham achado o meu nome na LucasFilm.Devo ter dado a impressão de ser um artista para crianças e fiquei muito lisonjeado com a recomendação.Esse livro continua a ser um dos meus projectos favoritos,porque eu tinha muitos Goldenbooks quando era criança e foi uma grande conquista na minha iniciante carreira.

A RandomHouse contactou-me um ano depois para fazer o" Resgate de Anakin",outra recomendação da LucasFilm.A Starwars Insider também refere frequentemente trabalho para mim.Ao longo dos anos,tenho mostrado o meu trabalho para muitas empresas em convenções e construindo a minha carreira.

SWCP: que tipo de trabalho gostas mais de realizar:Blueprints,trading cards,ilustração?

C.T: adoro trabalhar em tudo isso.A variedade continua a fazer o meu trabalho interessante.É um dos meus objectivos pessoais para criar a arte de tantos tipos de projectos de Starwars enquanto puder.Um destes dias,espero fazer algumas capas de Comics,mas há sempre algo novo para me manter ocupado.Já este ano,tenho três grandes projectos de livros planeados e vários outros projectos menores.

SWCP: qual destes dois tipos de ilustração(digital e tradicional) te dá mais prazer trabalhar?

C.T: nestes dias,prefiro a arte digital,pois dá-me mais liberdade;não existem restrições para o que se possa fazer no computador.Ocasionalmente,faço arte tradicional para as Sketch cards ou para o meu prazer pessoal.Gosto de construir coisas como também de conseguir incorporar isso na minha carreira sobre Starwars.Construí vários Sabres de luz que foram apresentados na nova enciclopédia de Starwars(A´Sharad Hett´s,Tenel Ka´s e o Sabre Stormtrooper).

SWCP: sabemos que também és escritor em part-time.O que escreves?

C.T: não escrevo com muita frequência.O conjunto de artigos para a série da SW Insider foi o meu grande projecto escrito.A revista teve a ideia para esta série em curso e precisava de um escritor;Steve Sansweet recomendou-me porque eu sabia muito sobre a confecção de adereços do Starwars original e tinha um website sobre o assunto(http://www.partsofsw.com/).

Eu também era um colaborador regular de arte para a Insider.Depois de 44 artigos,a série terminou e eu não tive tempo para lançar novas ideias para a revista.

A minha experiência limitada na escrita veio a calhar para projectos como o Starwars Blueprints.Eu e o meu amigo Chris Reiff éramos os autores do website citado anteriormente,e criámos todas as obras desse projecto,mas também muitas vezes os rótulos e alguns textos menores para os cartazes.Posso ter outros projectos de escrita no futuro,mas a arte visual continuará a ser o meu foco principal.

In this exclusively interview for the SWCP, we get to know a little more about this talented artist:

SWCP: early,Starwars was an influence in your life.Why?
C.T:I first saw Star Wars at the age of three with my dad and uncle. It was unlike anything I had ever seen and the movie inspired my imagination as a young artist. As the saga grew, so did I. When The Empire Strikes Back came out, I took interest in Star Wars artwork collecting the "Space Paintings" trading cards by Ralph McQuarrie. He continues to be a strong influence on my own art even today.


SWCP:you were the primary artist for Starwars Kids Magazine and illustrated SW children´s books for GoldenBooks and Random House Publishing. How and when did you started to work for such publishers?
C.T:
I started my official Star Wars career in 1995 working on the Star Wars Roleplaying Game by West End Games. When I graduated college in 1996 I started looking for more Star Wars work from other companies and contacted the Star Wars Insider magazine. They were just starting to plan the new Star Wars Kids magazine for Scholastic. They needed artists and they liked my work. I was lucky and my timing was perfect. They had me start with the artwork for the regular article headers and I continued with 4 new illustrations in each issue (table of contents, main character art and two aliens).
I started my official Star Wars career in 1995 working on the Star Wars Roleplaying Game by West End Games. When I graduated college in 1996 I started looking for more Star Wars work from other companies and contacted the Star Wars Insider magazine. They were just starting to plan the new Star Wars Kids magazine for Scholastic. They needed artists and they liked my work. I was lucky and my timing was perfect. They had me start with the artwork for the regular article headers and I continued with 4 new illustrations in each issue (table of contents, main character art and two aliens).






While I was working on Star Wars Kids I was contacted by Goldenbooks about illustrating Meltdown on Hoth. They had gotten my name from Lucasfilm. I must have made an impression as a children's artist and I was very flattered by the recommendation. That book remains one of my favorite projects because I had many Goldenbooks as a kid and it was a major achievement in my early career.





Randomhouse contacted me a year later to do Anakin to the Rescue, another recommendation by Lucasfilm. The Star Wars Insider also frequently referred work to me. Over the years I've shown my work to many other companies at conventions and built up my career.

SWCP:what kind of works do you prefer to do? blueprints,trading cards,illustrations...
C.T:I love working on all of it. The variety of work continues to make my job interesting. It is one of my personal goals to create art for as many types of Star Wars projects as I can. One of these days I hope to do some comic book covers, but there's always something new to keep me busy. Already this year I have three big book projects planned and several other smaller projects.

SWCP:which of these two types of illustration:the traditional and digital, gives you more pleasure to work?
C.T:These days, I prefer digital art for the freedom. There are no restrictions to what can be done on the computer. Occasionally, I do traditional artwork for sketch cards or my own enjoyment. I enjoy building things as well and I've managed to incorporate that into my Star Wars career. I built several lightsabers that were featured in the new Star War Encyclopedia (A'Sharad Hett's, Tenel Ka's and the Stormtrooper lightsaber).

SWCP:we also know that you are a writer (part-time).What do you write?
C.T: I don't write very often. The Set Piece article series for Star Wars Insider was my big writing project. I kind of fell into that job. The magazine had the idea for this ongoing series and needed a writer. Steve Sansweet recommended me because I knew a lot about the making of the original Star Wars props and had a website on the subject (http://www.partsofsw.com/) .I was also a regular art contributor to the Insider. After 44 articles the series ended and I haven't had time to pitch any new ideas to the magazine.
My limited writing experience has come in handy for projects like the Star Wars Blueprints. My friend Chris Reiff (sometimes co-author on Set Piece and partner on The Parts of Star Wars website) and I create all the blueprint artwork, but we also often write labels and some minor text for the posters as well. I may have other writing projects in the future, but visual art will continue to be my main focus.
